his elementary years.
“I made it because of my
family; they are my inspiration,”

‘Kapag ang isa ay nadagdagan ng isa, galak, saya at pag-asa ang matatamasa,sapagkat sa dami makikita ang tunay na ngiti sa mga labi’.
Muling napunan ng mga ngiti ang bawat labi ng mga estudyante, guro at pati na ng mga magulang ang pagdating ng limang kaibig-ibig na mga anghel na maituturing sa
Pintuyan National High School. Ngunit bago pumasok at nagbigay galak sa paaralan, sina Bb. Josephine Temosa, Bb. Recil Castolo, Gng. Virgie Miole, G. Jonas Aray at G. Noel Buctot, sila’y
nagbahagi ng magandang karanasan sa kanilang pag-aaral at ng kanilang buhay.
Si Bb. Josephine Temosa ay lumaki sa Hinundayan, Southern Leyte. Sa taong 1985-1986 siya ay nakapagtapos ng elementarya bilang salutatorian
sa Hinundayan Central School. Ang kanyang husay at galing sa akademiko ay kanyang naipagpatuloy at sa taong 1989-1990 siya ay muling namayagpag
at nakapagtapos bilang valedictorian. Upang maipagpatuloy ang pagkamit ng tagumpay, siya’y nag-enroll sa kolehiyo sa kursong Bachelor of Science in
Computer Science at nakapagtapos sa taong 1992-1993 sa Unibersidad ng Cebu. At isang taon matapos ang matagumpay na pagtatapos, siya’y nagdesisyong
makipagsapalaran sa ibang bansa para makapag-ipon at makatulong sa pamilya. Habang kumakayod ng ilang taon bilang isang English Tutor at Child Monitor
sa Amerika, sa Taiwan at sa Hong Kong ng magkaibang taon siya’y nakapagdesisyon na habang nagtratrabaho siya’y mag-enroll sa isang Unibersidad sa
Hong Kong ng sa ganoon ay mas mahasa pa ang kanyang talino at madagdagan pa ang kanyang kaalaman. Siya ay nag-enroll sa kursong Bachelor of Science
in Entrepreneurship at nakapagtapos sa loob ng dalawang taon sa St. Mary’s University sa Hong Kong. At sa kanyang pagbalik sa Pilipinas mas napili niyang
maglingkod at ilaan ang kaalaman sa pagtuturo at kumuha ng kursong Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Physical Science na natapos sa taong 2015-
2016, at matapos ang kanyang pagpasa at naging ganap ng lesensyadong guro, siya ay mapalad na nadestino sa paaralan ng Pintuyan National High School
noong buwan ng Oktubre taong 2018, at kasalukuyang adviser ng Grade 12-ABM na mga estudyante. Pinatunayan ni Bb. Temosa na kahit sino, mapababae o lalaki man ay maaaring
umukit ng magagandang karanasan mapahanggang saan man.
Si G. Jonas Aray naman ay isang palaban at pursigidong tao na lumaki sa Catbawan, Pintuyan, Southern Leyte. Sa taong 2001-2002 natapos niya ang
kanyang elementarya sa mababang paaralan ng Marayag, Marayag San Francisco, Southern Leyte at sa taong 2005-2006 natapos ang kanyang sekondarya
sa mataas na paaralan ng Marayag. Pinatuyan ni G. Jonas na kahit di siya nakasungkit ng mataas na karangalan sa kanyang pag-aaral sa elementarya at
sekondarya hindi ito naging hadlang at magiging hadlang upang siya’y magtagumpay at makamtan ang tagumpay na minimithi. Sa kabila ng hirap na
tinatamasa sa buhay, lage niyang baon-baon ang kanyang determinasyon, at siya’y naniniwala na ang tagumpay ay kasunod ng taos pusong pagsasakripisyo.
Sa kanyang pagtungtong ng kolehiyo kumuha siya ng kursong Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics. Naging masipag siya sa kanyang pag-
aaral at sa katunayan siya ay nahalal bilang treasurer ng Supreme Student Council ng Southern Leyte State University- College of Teacher Education. Dahil na
rin sa kanyang pinakitang katapatan sa serbisyo, sa kasunod na taon siya ay nahalal uli bilang treasurer hindi lang sa kanilang campus kundi na rin sa buong
Southern Leyte State University. Hindi naging madali ang kanyang naging buhay sa kolehiyo sapagkat maraming mga pader ang sumubok na harangin ang
kanyang mga pangarap bagama’t ibinigay niya ang kanyang buong sipag, tiyaga, katapatan at determinasyon at sa taong 2015-2016 natapos niya ang kanyang
kurso. Kasunod ng kanyang pagtatapos, siya muna’y nagturo sa pribadong paaralan habang hinihintay na maging ganap na lesinsyadong guro at makapagturo sa pambublikong paaralan
sa ilalim ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon ng Pilipinas. Dahil kanyang ginalingan, kanyang nakamtan ang bituin na kay tagal na niyang hinangad na mapasakanya at sa taong 2018 buwan ng
Agosto, siya na rin ay naging ganap na lesinsyadong guro na at nagsimulang magturo sa mataas na paaralan ng Pintuyan at adviser ng Grade 7.
Isang matapang at palaban kung mailalarawan ang isang babae na mula sa lungsod ng San Francisco, Southern Leyte. Siya si Gng. Virgie Miole na
lumaki sa Marayag,San Francisco,Southern Leyte. Sa taong 1989-1990 natapos niya ang kanyang elementarya na may karangalan bilang valedictorian sa
mababang paaralan ng Marayag. At sa kanyang pagtungtong ng sekondarya kanyang ipinakita na ang kanyang talino ay hindi lang nagtatapos sa kanyang
elementarya at sa taong 1993-1994 siya ay nakapagtapos na may karangalan na salutatorian sa Marayag Barangay School. Ang pagkamit ng kanyang pangarap
ay parang isang ilog na patuloy pa ring dumadaloy hanggang makamtan ang nais nitong makamtan. Siya’y nakapagdesisyong kinakailangan niyang makatapos
ng kolehiyo ng sa ganoon ay makapaghanap siya ng maayos na trabaho at maayos na sweldo. Sa taong 1994 siya ay kumuha ng kursong Bachelor of Secondary
Education major in Social Studies sa Tomas Oppus Normal College na ngayo’y kabilang na sa anim na kolehiyo na nasa ilalim ng pamamahala ng Southern
Leyte State University at ito’y tinatawag na Southern Leyte State University- College of Teacher Education. Dahil sa sipag at tiyaga,kanyang nakamtan ang
tagumpay mula sa sakripisyo, hirap at lungkot na napagdaanan sa pag-aaral at ito’y napalitan ng mga ngiti sa kanyang mga labi. Kasunod nito, siya muna’y
nakapagdesisyong huwag muna mag-apply bilang guro at mag-apply nalang muna sa kanilang munisipyo. Ang kanyang paninerbisyo bilang worker sa kanilang munisipyo ay umabot
sa humigit kumulang labing walong taon at sa loob ng mga taong iyon, kanyang natagpuan ang kanyang pag-ibig at sila’y biniyayaan ng dalawang anak. Makalipas ang ilang mga taon
napagdesisyonan niyang kinakailangan na niyang gamitin ang kaalaman sa pagtuturo at makapagbahagi ng kaalaman sa mga kabataan. Sa taong 2018 siya ay naging ganap na guro na at
nadestino sa Mataas na Paaralan ng Pintuyan, at kasalukuyang adviser ng Grade 11- HUMSS. Palagi niyang pinapaalala sa kanyang mga estudyante na walang makakaharang na anumang
pagsubok sa iyong pagkamit sa tagumpay kung lagi mo lang pinapaalala sa iyong sarili na kakayanin mo at kinakailangang laban lang na kahit ang kahirapan ay di kailan man magiging
hadlang upang ika’y magtagumpay sa buhay.
Maliit man, bagama’t di nagpapahuli sa hamon ng buhay, ang talino at kakayahan ang naging susi upang magtagumpay. Ganito mailalarawan ang
isang ginoo na nagmula pa sa lungsod ng Hinunangan lalawigan ng Southern Leyte. Siya si G. Noel S. Buctot na lumaki sa Nava, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte.
Siya’y nakapagtapos ng elementarya sa mababang paaralan ng Nava sa taong 1996-1997 at nakapagtapos ng sekondarya sa mataas na paaralan ng Nava sa
taong 1999-2000. Si G. Buctot ay isang taong may malaking pangarap di lang sa kanyang sarili kundi na rin para sa kanyang pamilya. Kahit masakit sa kalooban
na mapalayo sa lupang sinilangan at sa pamilya, tiniis niya ito sapagkat napili niyang mag-aaral sa Urdaneta City, Pangasinan. Siya roo’y kumuha ng kursong
Bacelor of Science in Commerce major in Business Management at sa taong 2005-2006 ito’y kanyang natapos. Naniniwala siyang na huwag mo ng hintaying
ipagsabukas ang isang gawain kung magagawa mo ito ngayon. Hindi niya sinayang ang mga oras na nagdaan at kasunod ng kanyang pagtatapos ay agad
na naghanap ng trabaho. Sa kanyang unang trabaho siya ay napasok sa kompanya ng Procter and Gamble sa Laguna bilang isang Quality Assurance sa loob
ng apat na taon mula taong 2005-2009. Muli siyang dinala ng kapalaran at sa taong 2009 siya ay nakapaghanap na naman ng ibang trabaho at nakapasok
sa kompanya ng Nestle Philippines bilang Production Staff sa loob ng isang taon. At dahil sadyang kay likot ng kanyang kapalaran at ito’y hindi mapakali, siya
na naman ay nakapaghanap ng bagong trabaho, at sadyang kay bait ng tadhana sa kanya dahil sa kasunod lamang na taon siya ay naging Costumer Service
Representative sa kompanya ng Simple Life Technologies, dahil sa pinakitang sipag sa trabaho siya ay na-promote bilang Technician ng kompanya at muli ring na-promote bilang Store
Manager, Davao Branch. Dahil sa nais na mas umasenso, nagtayo siya ng kanyang sariling negosyo at itinaguyod gamit ang kanyang determinasyon,ito’y kanyang pinangalanang InkDrops
Printing Solutions, ito’y kanyang itinayo sa taong 2012 at hanggang sa kasalukuyan ito’y nananatili pa ring matatag. Maraming nais si G. Buctot sa kanyang buhay at isa na rito ay ang
magturo, kung kaya’t siya’y muling bumalik sa pag-aaral at kumuha ng kursong Bachelor of Secomdary Education major in Social Studies at kanyang natapos sa taong 2015-2016 at nag
board exam. Sa taong 2018 siya ay naging ganap ng guro at kasalukuyang nagtuturo sa Pintuyan National High School bilang Grade 11- HUMSS adviser. Ang lahat ng kanyang tagumpay ay
taos puso niyang iniaalay sa kanyang asawa at nag-iisang anak na siyang nagbibigay inspirasyon at katatagan sa kanyang sarili na sa ano pang hamon sa buhay hangga’t may nagmamahal
sayo mananatili kang matatag at handang sumuong sa mga pagsubok sa buhay.

ang isang binibini na mula sa Pintuyan, Southern Leyte. Siya si Bb. Recil Castolo na isinilang sa Mainit,Pintuyan, Southern Leyte. Sa kanyang pag-aaral ng
elementarya nagpakita na ng katalinuhan at sa kanyang pagtatapos sa taong 2008-2009 siya’y nakakuha ng karangalang valedictorian sa Pintuyan Central
High School. Muli, pinatunayan niya na ang kanyang talino ay di nagtatapos ni matatapos, at sa kanyang pagtungtong ng sekondarya muli nyang nasungkit
ang karangalang valedictorian na natapos sa taong 2012-2013 sa Mataas na paaralan ng Pintuyan. Ipinanganak na hindi marangya ang buhay bagama’t ito’y
hindi naging hadlang bagkus ay ipinakita na sa huli ay makakamtan niya ang tagumpay. Bata pa lamang pangarap na niyang maging guro kaya’t sa kanyang

Student Supreme Council sa taong 2014-2015 at naging Board Member ng SSC Federation Southern Leyte State University sa loob rin ng isang taon. Dahil
sa kanyang angking talino at galing sa pamumuno siya ay naging presidente ng Science and Mathematics Society sa taong 2015-2016. Pinatunayan niya sa
maraming paraan na ang kanyang galing ay di kumukupas na hangga’t ang kanyang kamay at paa ay gumagalaw ang kanyang determinasyon at sipag ay di
rin matatapos. Katulad rin ng iba, siya rin ay humarap sa kay raming pagsubok at problema na sumubok sirain ang kanyang pag-abot ng tagumpay, bagama’t ang kanyang pananalig sa

Office workers beware, as research from the University of Sydney found that
office workers who sit for longer than 10 hours a day at their desk had a 48 per cent
increase in risk of death, in comparison to people who sat for less than four hours a day. To
counteract this health risk, try to introduce five minutes of activity every hour and make sure
you take regular breaks away from your workstation. Simple changes like taking the stairs
instead of the lift will also make a positive difference to your health.

because exercise improves your cardiovascular health which means that more blood and
oxygen flow around the body, therefore giving you more energy.

Many people fall into the trap of thinking that they can achieve a flat stomach by
doing crunches. But the truth is, endless amounts of crunches won’t give you the stomach
of your dreams - as the exercise only works your abs, not your core muscles. One study
published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found carrying out six
weeks of abdominal exercises alone was not enough to reduce abdominal fat.
9. Handwriting things can help your memory
Research from Indiana University found that in order to remember something,
you should handwrite notes, rather than type them. Writing is thought to boost your
memory as note taking by hand requires different cognitive processes than typing. For
example, if in a lecture you are writing notes, you have to listen carefully to what the speaker
has said as it is impossible to write down every word. Therefore through this process, you
are listening, digesting and summarising the information more effectively than someone
who is just typing words into a laptop.
10. To cool down, drink something hot
It might sound counterproductive, but if you want to cool down, then drink
something hot. According to a study from the University of Ottawa’s school of Human
Kinetics, as the drink is hotter than your body temperature, it triggers a sweat response in
the body that more than compensates for the increase. So although it might initially make
you feel hotter, a hot drink will cause you to sweat more and therefore the body effectively
cools itself quicker.

New study reveals needle-like structures in
positively charged lightning leaders

reveals that the negative charges inside a thundercloud are not discharged all in a single flash, but are in part stored alongside the leader channel
at Interruptions, inside structures which the researchers have called needles. This may cause a repeated discharge to the ground.
In contrast to popular belief, lightning often does strike twice, but the reason why a lightning channel is ‘reused’ has remained a
mystery. Now, an international research team led by the University of Groningen has used the LOFAR radio telescope to study the development
of lightning flashes in unprecedented detail. Their work reveals that the negative charges inside a thundercloud are not discharged all in a single
flash, but are in part stored alongside the leader channel at Interruptions. This occurs inside structures which the researchers have called needles.
Through these needles, a negative charge may cause a repeated discharge to the ground. The results were published on 18 April in the science
journal Nature.
Needles
“This finding is in sharp contrast to the present picture, in which the charge flows along plasma channels directly from one part of the
cloud to another, or to the ground,” explains Olaf Scholten, Professor of Physics at the KVI-CART institute of the University of Groningen. The
reason why the needles have never been seen before lies in the ‘supreme capabilities’ of LOFAR, adds his colleague Dr Brian Hare, first author of
the paper: “These needles can have a length of 100 meters and a diameter of less than five meters, and are too small and too short-lived for other
lightning detections systems.”
Low Frequency Array (LOFAR) is a Dutch radio telescope consisting of thousands of rather simple antennas spread out over Northern
Europe. These antennas are connected with a central computer through fiber-optic cables, which means that they can operate as a single entity.
LOFAR is developed primarily for radio astronomy observations, but the frequency range of the antennas also makes it suitable for lightning
research, as discharges produce bursts in the VHF (very high frequency) radio band.
Inside the cloud
For the present lightning observations, the scientists have used only the Dutch LOFAR stations, which cover an area of 3,200 square
kilometers. This new study analyzed the raw time-traces (which are accurate to one nanosecond) as measured in the 30-80 MHz band. Brian Hare:
“These data allow us to detect lightning propagation at a scale where, for the first time, we can distinguish the primary processes. Furthermore,
the use of radio waves allows us to look inside the thundercloud, where most of the lightning resides.”
Lightning occurs when strong updrafts generate a kind of static electricity in large cumulonimbus clouds. Parts of the cloud become
positively charged and others negatively. When this charge separation is large enough, a violent discharge happens, which we know as lightning.
Such a discharge starts with a plasma, a small area of ionized air hot enough to be electrically conductive. This small area grows into a forked
plasma channel that can reach lengths of several kilometers. The positive tips of the plasma channel collect negative charges from the cloud,
which pass through the channel to the negative tip, where the charge is discharged. It was already known that a large amount of VHF emissions
is produced at the growing tips of the negative channels while the positive channels show emissions only along the channel, not at the tip.
A new algorithm
The scientists developed a new algorithm for LOFAR data, allowing them to visualize the VHF radio emissions from two lightning
flashes. The antenna array and the very precise time stamp on all the data allowed them to pinpoint the emission sources with unprecedented
resolution. “Close to the core area of LOFAR, where the antenna density is highest, the spatial accuracy was about one meter,” says Professor
Scholten. Furthermore, the data obtained was capable of localizing 10 times more VHF sources than other three-dimensional imaging systems,
with a temporal resolution in the range of nanoseconds. This resulted in a high-resolution 3D image of the lightning discharge.
Break
The results clearly show the occurrence of a break in the discharge channel, at a location where needles are formed. These appear to
discharge negative charges from the main channel, which subsequently re-enter the cloud. The reduction of charges in the channel causes the
break. However, once the charge in the cloud becomes high enough again, the flow through the channel is restored, leading to a second discharge
of lightning. By this mechanism, lightning will strike in the same area repeatedly.
Scholten: “The VHF emissions along the positive channel are due to rather regularly repeated discharges along previously formed
side channels, the needles. These needles appear to drain the charges in a pulsed manner.” This is a totally new phenomenon, adds Professor Joe
Dwyer of the University of New Hampshire (US), third author of the paper: “Our new observation techniques show copious amounts of needles
in the lightning flash, which have not been seen before.” And Brian Hare concludes: “From these observations, we see that a part of the cloud is
re-charged, and we can understand why a lightning discharge to the ground may repeat itself a few times.”
