TYPE OF LESSON: Practice Vocabulary and Speaking

TOPIC: A lovely day (Fairyland 3 Activity Book)

AIMS:

1. Cognitive:
a. General:
- To refresh the vocabulary
- To make connections between the already learned vocabulary
and the new idioms
- To enrich vocabulary
- To practice speaking
b. Specific:
- To practice the name of the seasons in connection with the
months of the year related to each of them
- To be able to pronounce correctly the vocabulary acknowledged
2. Emotional:
- To encourage students to express their preferences on a given
topic, using the verb “to like” in the affirmative and negative
forms
STUDENTS’ POSSIBLE PROBLEMS / ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:

- The pupils are not attentive

- The pupils are talking during the lesson

- Some of the pupils may not understand some words

- Some of them may not understand the exercises

- There might be some problems in pronunciation, for example in the case of


“autumn”

- It is possible that some spelling errors may occur in the case of the name of
the months, for example a frequent mistake is in the spelling of “October”
(misspelled “octomber”)

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO THE THEM:

- Give them permanent feedback on behavior and make them attentive

- Ask them what we were discussing while they were speaking and give them
a task in order to be attentive

- Give extra explanations and practical examples for the unknown words

- Explain the task in other words so they understand better

- Transcribe phonetically the mispronounced words, but in a personal way,


maybe with Romanian letters so they can pronounce them correctly

- Explain the error in spelling all over again, as many times as necessary

Stage – Lead-in (10 min)

- The teacher checks the attendance and announces the topic of the lesson:
“The Weather and The Seasons”, while the students give the name of the
absents and open their notebooks (1 min) T>S(s); S(s)>T

- The students are asked to write down the title and draw the scheme from the
whiteboard in their notebooks – Addend 1 (2 min) T>S(s)

- The teacher asks the students which the seasons are; the students answer and
come to write each one of them on the scheme on the whiteboard and on
their notebooks as well (2 min) T>S(s); S(s)>T

- Then, the teacher asks them to enumerate the months of the year, match
them with the appropriate season and complete the scheme on the
whiteboard as well as on their notebooks (2 min) T>S(s)

- After they finish, the teacher asks them how the weather is like in each
season and which is their favorite one. The students answer by using the
already learned vocabulary, such as: “The weather in summer is hot and
sunny/ in winter is cold, windy and snowy, etc.” and “My favorite season
is……., because it is…….” (2 min) T>S(s); S(s)>T

- The teacher gives the handouts to the students and announces the next stage
of the lesson: Practice (this stage will be based on the handout, as well as the
homework)
