Review Essay

In review a of the career, multimedia artist and or designer, certain criteria must be met in order

to make this career choice a fair choice in the Houston and Galveston area. The environment, demand

for artists, and the amount of enjoyment had made multimedia design a fair career choice for the

Houston and Galveston area.

The environment of a multimedia artist or designer can affect the way that the multimedia artist

or designer thinks and the way the multimedia artist or designer works. One of the effects of a

multimedia artists and or designer’s environment is the work schedule. The work schedule is ideal for

someone in this field because of the “normal” work schedule; which is described as a work schedule

from Monday to Thursday or Friday, and not working during nights and weekends. This work schedule is

perfect for those looking for a calm career where they can express themselves. However, when

deadlines arise, multimedia artists and or designers must prepare themselves to work on weekends and

also be able to work into the night (Bureau of Labor Statistics, para 2.). While multimedia artists and or

designers are sometimes employed by other companies, most multimedia artists or designers are self-

employed (Bureau of Labor Statistics, para 1.). Self-employment means that they make their own

deadlines as they please. This employment choice is perfect for people with a low work speed and or

people who can lose interest in projects quickly. Multimedia artists or designers tend to also work in

teams on other special projects, usually partnering with other multimedia artists or designers, staff of a
client company, the client themselves, and possible special guests. The various community members

that multimedia artists or designers meet through projects and their work is also a reason for

multimedia artists and or designers as a career choice receives a fair rating. This career is a choice pick

for those that are extroverted, like working in teams, have a hard time following deadline, and working

with a diverse group of people to create a product. Based on these criteria alone, a multimedia artist

and or designer is a fair choice as a future career.

The demand for a multimedia artist or designer has also increased over the years and is now in

high demand. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment rate is

expected to grow by eight percent from 2016 to 2026, which is around the same speed as the growth of

all occupations (Bureau of Labor Statistics, para 1.). Furthermore, as consumer technology advances the

demand for new, more advanced technology will rise, which, in turn, will increase the demand in

multimedia artists or designers to meet the new generation of computer hardware and the increasing

complexity of animation and visual effects (Bureau of Labor Statistics, para 2.). This same concept

applies to mobile devices; as technology advances, job opportunities open (Bureau of Labor Statistics,

para 3.). This increase in demand for multimedia artists and or designers allows more openings for new

jobs in the fields that multimedia artists and or designers specialize in. These various fields include

animator, visual artist, video game graphic artist, video game visual designer, visual effects artist and

designer, animated effects, graphic designers, web developers, and much, much more. On top of this

increase in demand and the increase of job openings, multimedia artists and or designers are also now

subject to higher wages and pay due to the increase in demand for multimedia artists and or designers.

The increase in pay and wages depends on what state you are located in and your states employment

rate. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States, multimedia artists and or

designers can earn more than one hundred twenty four, three hundred and ten dollars at the top ten
percent of multimedia artist and or designer opportunities (Bureau of Labor Statistics, para 1.). The pay

is a great source of income and helps give the career, multimedia artist and or designer, a fair rating.

In conclusion, the career of multimedia artist and or designer gets a fair rating as a career choice

due to the demand for multimedia artists and or designers, the wage and pay differences between

locations, the work environment, the work schedule, and location. All of these criteria are what makes

being a multimedia artist and or designer so good as a career choice.
