Title: Feasibility of cigarette ends

Introduction:

We all know that smoking cigarettes will damage our body in a number of different ways. There are
“myths” about cigarettes that are “good”, which mainly occur with all of the teens that are smoking,
they think they can just smoke for a few years then quit without suffering long term effects. After few
years of smoking will cause a permanent damage to our respiratory system. It will not just damage the
smoker’s body but the people around him or her that inhales the smoke of the cigarette. They think that
its easy to stop whenever they want but cigarettes has nicotine which is addictive so the person that
smokes will have a hard time stopping resulting into addiction.

Although it can be a very difficult habit to break, it is a choice whether you will continue or not. Not just
humans will be affected but the environment too. The butts or the end of cigarettes could get eaten by
animals like birds or dogs. Cigarette end litter can contaminate soil and water and kill microorganism
because of its toxicating substances. However, the nicotine contained inside of the remaining cigarette
can be used for something else. If we can not stop the people to smoke then we could just make sure to
not make the problem bigger than it should be. Fortunately, we could use cigarette ends in an
extraordinary way. The nicotine inside of the cigarette can be used as an insecticide. Nicotine discourage
aphids, beetles, caterpillars, spiders mites, leaf miners and a host of other rapacious insects that could
harm plants. The chemical disrupts the neurotransmitters as they send messages to muscles, including
the heart in tiny bugs’ systems which can be fatal to insects. It could also be better than commercial
products because it will not cost you anything and the chemicals of the commercial insecticides might
affect the plant. It will not help to stop people from smoking but we could get a benefit from their litter.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

This study seeks the advantage we could get from the cigarette ends; specifically it seeks to answer the
following question:

1.) Will it help to maintain the environment healthy?

2.) Is nicotine an effective insecticide?
3.) Is it better than commercial insecticide?

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The rationale of the study is to save money, lessen the trash and help the environment stay green. The
study aims to create a product from nothing and create something useful out of it. Hence, this will
benefit everyone who dislike having cigarette litter everywhere and those who would like to have a
pesticide that doesn’t cost much.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

This study was conducted to use the remains of the cigarettes in order to make something useful out of
it. It is a possible solution to the problem we are currently facing.
