1. Discuss about freelancing

Based on the definition itself, A freelancer or freelance worker, is a term

commonly used for a person who is self-employed and is not necessarily
committed to a particular employer long-term. Freelance workers are
sometimes represented by a company or a temporary agency that resells
freelance labor to clients; others work independently or use professional
associations or websites to get work.

If you truly want to build a freelance business, don’t give up so easily. It’s
not going to be a perfect fit for everyone but if you’re willing to be patient and
put in the work, you’ll start to see results and be glad you didn’t give up on
freelancing. But here are some facts about freelancing.

It Takes Time to Build Up a Sustainable Freelance Business

Even if you have a lot of great skills, you can’t just become a freelancing
success overnight. It takes time to build up your business and it starts by
growing your network.
The sooner you get in touch with more people who could benefit from your
services, the quicker your business will grow as you, onboard new clients.

Your Income Will Fluctuate Quite a Bit

The one major drawback of freelancing is that your income often

fluctuates as you gain and lose clients and as your workload changes.
Some people can’t handle it, but what I do is stash away extra money during
the really well-paying months just in case I need it during the lower-paying
months. Work will always pick back up even if manage to lose one of your
biggest clients so long as you keep your ideas open and pitch prospects
regularly.
There Are Clients Who Pay Well

Another obstacle that could deter a new freelancer is not finding clients
who pay well or pay at all. This was the issue with the person who posted in
the Facebook group about feeling ready to give up on freelancing.

2. What is freelance Architect?

A freelance architect is an architect that chooses to represent herself and is

not tied to a firm. After years of education and obtaining proper licensure,
many architects do not necessarily want to have their names lost to the face of
a larger firm. Freelance is an option for trained architects who want to be their
own boss of their talents and abilities.

If you're a trained architect who wants to work from home, you might
consider freelance architecture from home as a way to mesh caring for your
family and earning income.

 Know What to Expect

As a licensed freelance architect, expect to work within a specialty, whether

it be residential, commercial buildings or landscape design. You can offer the
same services as architects employed by larger companies, as well as lower-
impact counsel. The projects clients need freelance consultation for vary, from
laying out a home garden to designing complex commercial structures.

 Fulfil the Requirements

To become an architect, freelance or otherwise, you must be registered by

your state's Architectural Registration board. To become registered, you must
demonstrate your education (a BA or MA in architecture), your experience
(usually garnered through an intern program) and your ability to pass your
state's architectural exam.

 Decide to Go Freelance

The advantages of being a freelance architect are many. Complete control

over every aspect of your business is a very compelling motivator. The
downside of freelancing is that though you won't be encumbered by the
weight and politics of a large firm, neither will you have its support or
recognizable name. However, you can manage your own hours and, as much
as possible, your own wages. You can incorporate your personal ethics and
ideals into your work. Your name may quickly come to be associated with
environmentally-friendly designs or large-impact visuals.
You can run such a business from a home office, reducing the time spent away
from your family.

 Market to What the Customer Wants

Many clients seeking an architect are grateful for the freelance market. It is
a desirable option for companies and individuals seeking general advice who
do not want to have to hire a full-time architect for a full-time project. The
freelance market also enables those seeking architectural expertise to have the
widest selection of available talent. They are not constrained by the hefty
prices and crowded schedules of large architectural firms. Many employers
prefer the one-on-one contact of a freelancer. A freelancer architect is likely to
be able to give plenty of time and attention to her employer, offering as little
or as much help as the employer needs. Make sure in your advertising and self
promotion that your prospective clients know you are willing to provide this
attention.

 Find Freelance Work

To find freelance work, you can advertise yourself directly, though

newspapers, private websites or Craigslist. But, there are many online sites,
such as Gofreelance.com and ifreelance.com, that list directories of freelance
architects. You can post your profiles to be browsed by people in need of your
services. Sites like ifreelance.com list architectural projects awaiting bids. The
lister describes what they are trying to build, along with detail of their
architectural needs. You can respond with your resumes, ideas and bids.
Freelancing is an option if you are an architect pursuing a career that allows
you to express your individuality. Though going freelance will reveal new
struggles, the benefits of being your own boss might far outweigh them.

3. What is the difference between architect of record, design

architect and registered and licensed architect?
One of the many perks of pursuing a career in architecture is that you are
not restricted to a particular role. There are many different paths you can
follow within the architecture profession.
Depending on the size of the firm these specialization hats could all be worn by
one architect. In a larger firm there could be one person or a whole team
assigned to each topic.

Architect of record is the architect or architecture firm whose name

appears on a building permit issued for a specific project on which that
architect or firm performed services.[1] Building permits are issued by a
government agency with the authority in a certain jurisdiction to regulate
building construction and enforce building codes. Generally, the building
contractor submits the application for the permit to the regulatory authority,
along with a building project's drawings and specifications (called collectively
"construction documents").[1] But in some jurisdictions, the architect is
required to submit the construction documents needed to obtain the building
permit.[1] And with some construction projects, more than one building permit
is issued. That occurs when several different architects perform services on
discrete parts of a single building project.[1] More than one architect of record,
therefore, would exist in such a case.

Design architect or architectural designers don’t have the same

educational background and degree qualification of an architect but they do
have the skills similar to architects. An architectural designer is often more
focused on designing homes or buildings rather than other technical tasks that
most architects do. Design architect is the person that comes up with the
general concepts for the needs structurally for a specific project. They do all of
the mathematical computations for the structure being planned. So that it
meets both building and earthquake standards for the area the structure will
be built. As well as researching the details of the location that the structure will
be built. Such things as the type of surface the structure will sit on.

Registered and licensed architects are board passers who can provide
full architectural services, from designing a concept to detailed construction
drawings. They takes the architect's plan notes that show the requirements
and design thoughts to create the structure(s). Ensuring that everything in the
notes is included in the structure being designed. Plus it is the designer's job to
make sure that the structure is aesthetically pleasing to the human eye.
4. What is out sourcing in Architectural Practice? Discuss

The changing world economy demands innovative business models.

Outsourcing can be effectively applied to enterprise transformation. In keeping
with this spirit, architectural outsourcing services have gained great
momentum in recent years.

Architectural Outsourcing Information Technology positions our daily

activities and businesses in an increasingly global context: The practice of
architecture is no exception. Technology presents new scenarios for
Workshare and defines the way in which a design is developed, communicated,
and realized.
Today, work association no longer implies personal interaction. Technology
has made possible ordinary virtual communications, accelerating information
transfer and influencing working methodologies. This is the virtual office:
physical space usurped by work space in the internet. Architects are not only
facing a promising business opportunity, but a new practice model that will
revolutionize the professional practice scenario. BIM consulting firms will focus
on stressing design and creativity as core values and commoditizing production
and repetitive but still necessary tasks.

Global economy has provided many opportunities for new innovative

businesses and has opened up a space for efficient access to resources. A new
understanding of architecture and its practice is increasingly focused on
strategically improving business performance. The field represents a unique
situation: while architectural practice is quickly becoming global and open-
sourced, the physical artifact of architecture continues to serve as the physical
manifestation of a community’s identity and aspirations.

Architects are beginning to assimilate and integrate innovative processes into

their practice that would be impossible without technological advancements.
Principles from these innovative working methods and technologies enable
firms to survive by adapting to external changes and maintaining a sustainable
advantage in architectural practice. Increasingly dependent on the larger
international context, the practice frequently necessitates dispatching team
members to remote locations.

The field of architecture is continuously evolving following the changes

dictated by contemporary societies, where consumerism and change provoke a
new conception of architecture. Today, clients of architects are focusing their
interests on issues such as process efficiency and business performance to the
detriment of individual interpretations of architecture. Economics and market
conditions tend to prevail over design intentions and aesthetic goals.
Maximizing the potential of the architectural outsourcing practice model for
each architectural firm will require strategic approaches to architectural
practice as a service, as well as a business.

Fulfilling current requirements in the management of architectural projects

demand the establishment of teams and tasks spanning organizational
boundaries as a strategic practice for business results. This task may seem
much simpler than it really is. Many issues for multi-team architectural
production such as communication, Workshare, and trust, frequently become
problematic for reasons beyond our control. Such problems may arise even
when dealing with traditional teamwork models. Therefore, when one replaces
the often-decisive factor of personal interaction with the virtual alternative in a
multidisciplinary team, the challenges become even more complex.

The very need for Workshare arises from the diversity of skills and opinions
required to formulate an architectural work. Inevitably architects find
themselves working in teams with other members, and these team building
experiences help form an overall collective identity.

Today team members are not necessarily required to work together in the
same physical space, since communication technologies have enabled efficient
interaction at a distance. In fact, personal interaction in architectural
Workshare has evolved greatly with time. As remote teams develop the
capabilities to collaborate effectively in ways that do not jeopardize the
process of logical project development, personal interaction within
architectural teams takes on a different significance. The banal transfers of
information that once took place between desks in one office now take place
many times daily via digital interaction between workstations around the
globe. Personal interaction between such parties may be reserved for more
significant meetings to initiate or substantiate relationships or to perform
checks on a project’s progress.
5. What is ASEAN Integration?

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) comprising ten

countries in Southeast Asia, which promotes intergovernmental cooperation
and facilitates economic, political, security, military, educational, and
sociocultural integration among its members and other countries in Asia. It
also regularly engages other countries in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
ASEAN maintains a global network of alliances and dialogue partners and is
considered by many as a global powerhouse, the central union for cooperation
in Asia-Pacific, and a prominent and influential organisation. It is involved in
numerous international affairs, and hosts diplomatic missions throughout the
world. It is a major partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation,
developing cooperation model with the organisation for the peace, stability,
development and sustainability of Asia.

ASEAN was preceded by an organization formed in 31 July 1961 called

the Association of Southeast Asia (ASA), a group consisting of the Philippines,
Federation of Malaya, and Thailand. ASEAN itself was created on 8 August
1967, when the foreign ministers of five countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the
Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, signed the ASEAN Declaration. As set out
in the Declaration, the aims and purposes of ASEAN are to accelerate economic
growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region, to promote
regional peace, collaboration and mutual assistance on matters of common
interest, to provide assistance to each other in the form of training and
research facilities, to collaborate for better utilisation of agriculture and
industry to raise the living standards of the people, to promote Southeast
Asian studies and to maintain close, beneficial co-operation with existing
international organisations with similar aims and purposes.
6. What countries are involved in the ASEAN Integration?

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional

grouping that promotes economic, political, and security cooperation
among its ten members: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia,
Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. ASEAN
countries have a population of nearly 640 million people [PDF] and a
combined GDP of $2.57 trillion. The group has spurred economic
integration, signing six free-trade agreements with other regional
economies. Yet experts say ASEAN’s impact is limited by a lack of strategic
vision, diverging national priorities, and weak leadership. The bloc’s biggest
challenge is negotiating a unified approach to China, particularly in
response to its widespread maritime claims in the South China Sea.
7. How will charter of ASEAN Integration affect the practice of
Architecture in the Philippines?

Filipino architects are encouraged to level-up and constantly improve their

craft as the entry of foreign professionals, especially from the ASEAN region, is
inevitable.
United Architects of the Philippines (UAP-Cebu Chapter) past president
Buck Sia is not denying the fact that the entry of foreign architects to the
country has threatened local professionals, however, while this cannot be
stopped, Filipinos have to compete head-on and "level-up."
Increasing their level of skills, experiences, well backed-up by theory and
research are just few of the
tools that Filipino architects
should do in order for them
to go up against the foreign
practitioners.

On the other hand, the

ASEAN integration also
opens up opportunities for
local architects as big
players or clientele are
coming in, thus constant upgrading of skills, and keeping abreast with global
trends are very important.
Meanwhile, Sia mentioned the outdated educational system for architecture in
the Philippines, as one of the hindrances why most local practitioners are
sometimes intimidated by their foreign counterparts.
There are about 38 thousand licensed architects in the Philippines duly
registered by the Philippine Regulations Commission. This number is enough to
accommodate the promising real estate and construction sectors.
But some projects are hiring foreign architects as consultants, and this is
already happening in the Philippines.
Philippine Construction Association (PCA) executive director Manolito P.
Madrasto, said the industry in general has been prepared to face the
opportunities and challenges that the integrated ASEAN brings.
Under the integration of Asean economies, foreign businesses are expected to
enter the Philippine market, each bringing their own flavor and spice. From a
manageable pool of local competitors, designers are expecting the influx of
foreign competitors coming in from all corners of Southeast Asia.

8. How will charter of ASEAN Integration affect the practice of

Global Architecture?

The current level of Filipino architects is a "reason to emphasize" the

importance of the continuing professional development. Global Architects just
need to prepare professionally and be globally competitive by consistently
educating ourselves. Attending forums and seminar is a positive action to
transform better. Most architects in the Philippines have only completed their
undergraduate degrees while their counterparts in other ASEAN countries
have masteral and doctorate degrees.
Out that only 52 out of the 39,000 registered architects in the Philippines,
including the 2016 board passers, are accredited to practice in other ASEAN
countries but architects with undergraduate degrees fall under the 6th level
while those who have obtained masteral and doctorate degrees are on the 7th
and 8th levels, respectively. But in the end, there are "no professional secrets"
that make Filipino architects stand out in the global practice of the profession.
