SYNCHRONISING CIRCUITS

• Many times in hydraulic machines,some object or

platform is to be lifted with the help of two or more
hydraulic cylinders simultaneousaly, In such cases
its become absolutely necessary that both the
cylinders move in unison.
• There are many ways of synchronising the
mechanical motions of the actuators.

TYPES OF SYNCHORNISING CIRCUITS

commonly three type

1. Tie cylinders
2. Series piping
3. Matching pumps

TIE CYLINDERS
 Cylinders tied together for mechanical
synchronisation are perhaps the most
advantageous action.
 This arrangement works well on heavey
equipments when the mechanical linkage is rigid.
Rack and pinion connections are good if the
mesh is proper and backlash is not presen.
 This method is limited to cylinders which move
in the same directions.

SERIES PIPING

This arrangements gives a reasonably accurate

synchronisum.Fluid from the rod end of cylinder1
is delivered to the blank end of cylinder 2.
for two cylindersto be synchronised,
Ap2=Ap1-Ar1
The force equation are ;
P1Ap1-P2(Ap1-Ar1)=F1
P2Ap2-P3(Ap2-Ar2)=F2

SERIES PIPING

1872201,GCT 7
Adding both equations are

P3=0

P1Ap1= F1+F2

So,This pump must be cabable of delivering a

pressure equal to the required for the piston of
cylinder 1 to overcome the loads acting on both
cylinders.

MATCHING PUMPS
 Two pumps That have identical deliveries will move
the cylinder in unison.
 Two pumps are mounted on a common shaft and
have identical deliveries.
 The accuracy of synchoronisation depends on the
volumetric efficiency of both the pumps,lekage
past the piston,wear of the pump parts and
friction created by load.
