Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is School Science Forum?


School Science Forum (SSF) is an annual programme of VikramA Sarabhai Community Science Centre. During
the academic year 2019-20 it will be conducted from 18 June 2019 to February 2020. The programme
provides a platform to the participants to strengthen their basic concepts of Science and Mathematics.
Sessions are conducted once a week, during which they perform curriculum-based experiments and
activities in our well-equipped labs.

2. Who can participate in the programme?


Students of standards V to IX are eligible to participate in this programme.

3. What is the content of the programme?


The content of the programme is planned after studying the syllabus of Gujarat Board, CBSE & ICSE boards.
Topics of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics that require practical inputs are included in the
programme. Apart from these, sessions related to Computers, Electronics, Model Rocketry and Astronomy
are also included. Educational Visits may also be organized for some of the standards.

4. What is the medium of instruction?


Depending on composition of the batch, the medium of instruction is a mix of English, Gujarati and Hindi.

5. Who will conduct the programme?


All the activities and experiments are conducted by our experienced resource persons in the respective
laboratories. For some of the topics, ‘Lecture-Demonstration/Talks’ can be conducted by invited experts in
respective fields. As per the availability of the experts, these sessions may be conducted either on Saturday
or Sunday of that week for all the batches together.

6. Will the participants get some resource material?


Worksheets (English/Gujarati)wherever necessary and possible, will be provided to the participants.

7. What other materials do the participants have to bring? What about the materials for experiments and
activities?
Participants have to bring with them SSF Kit bag (given by VASCSCat the start of the first session) and
geometry box. Other necessary material required for the session will be provided by the Centre.

8. What if participants break or damage any of the equipment/ instruments?


Participants are requested to handle the equipment/ instruments with care. But in case of breakage or
damage of glassware and equipment, the cost will be recovered from the concerned participant.

9. What if a participant misses any session? Sessions won’t be repeated.


In case participants miss any session, s/he can collect worksheets/materials from the respective labs.

10. Is it possible to change the batch after taking admission?


No.

11. How will we get the information regarding any change in the schedule during the programme?
Notice will be given to the participants regarding any changes in schedule. Such message will also be sent to
the registered mobile number of the participants. Register any one mobile number and inform us
immediately of any change in the number.

12. What other facilities will the participant get?
a. Free library membership till the completion of the programme, as per VASCSC library rules.
b. One time discount of 10% on single purchase of any product/ publication from VASCSC Science shop(on
showing the fee receipt)
c. Participants are eligible for Certificate only after:
(i) Completion of the programme
(ii) Attendance is at least 70%
(iii) Library clearance (Return of books and fee clearance)

13. Cancellation and refund policy


i. The batch mentioned in the online Acknowledgement Form shall not be changed in any
circumstances.
ii. In any circumstances seats shall not be reserved.
iii. Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

14. What is the fee of ‘School Science Forum’ and when will the programme start?
The fee structure and details of the opening sessionof different batches are as follows:

Please note:
 All the participants have to be punctual.
 They should adhere strictly to the instruction given by the lab in-charges.
 Please check if your school has any objection for your participation in the programme. If so, kindly do
not register.
 The rules and regulations related to the programme will entirely be as decided by VASCSC. In case of
any disputes, decision of VASCSC will be final and binding.
