Unit 23 – Personal Media Profile

1. Suitability for Audience:


The audience for my personal media profile and products are both male and
female aged 18 plus. I want to attract people interested in employing me to
produce digital products. This would include photography, graphic design and
web design. My customers will mostly be people from small independent
companies to individuals who require my services.

I have developed a logo that is bold and colourful although focusing on one
particular colour, blue it has a range of shades. This is bold and eye-catching. Overall, the appearance
of my products are professional yet different from others, as I want to stand out against my
competitors and make my company the one you remember.

The level of professionalism in my Media profile demonstrates that I can produce high quality
products suitable for a mature professionalism audience.
My colour scheme for my personal profile is shade of blue. I used this as I believe blue is often
associated with masculinity and I wanted to show equality and attract a male audience. The
brightness of the blue amongst the white background is eye catching which I wanted to attract my
audience.

More than half my audience, 55%, said my


suitability for audience profile was suitable for my target audience.
The only negative feedback I received was that
there was too much blue and they would like to
see a contrast of colours. This is something I
will look into in the future if people continue to
deter from me due to this.

2. Suitability for Purpose:


The purpose of my personal media profile is to promote my graphic design business. It should inform
the audience of the services and products that I provide and set me apart from my competition. It
should also provide details of these services including costs. In order to encourage new clients I would
also wish to include special offers. I feel the products appear professional and are very eye-catching.
Documents must appear professional if you wish to encourage new clients to pay for your services.

Overall, I think my products are informative and contain the correct balance of written information
and images. People that wish to employ a graphic designer will want to know what services I provide
and the quality so I included examples of my work in my profile. When make further changes to my
work I would consider including transformation pictures from previous work I have done and my
growth. This with hopefully make people believe I can do what they need me to do and only improve
with experience.
I have used many primary images within my work. I have also avoided making any statements that
would be difficult to achieve. Often you will see statements such as best graphic designer in UK and

this is often untrue so I only wish to tell people


Suitablity for Purpose how good I am with my work and make them
decide for themselves.
70% of my test audience stated my personal
profile was very suitable for my intended
purpose.
The feedback I received was that I
demonstrated my skills as a professional
graphic designer well through all my work.

3. Professionalism:
I feel my work is very professional in appearance and content. Each product is very strong but I feel I
could spend more time developing my website. I will now compare my work with professional
products to demonstrate just how professional they are.

Discussion:
I think that it is difficult to tell the difference between a professional portfolio and mine. This is a
good indication of how professional my work is. There is not a clear indication that mine is not
professional as everything is set out, as a normal website would be, the only difference is that they
are advertising different things which changes the layout. There is a consistent colour scheme
within my website, which improves the appearance. I have used professional fonts that are easy to
read and by putting some bits in bold it shows there importance. In addition, I have not made it

overly colourful as I have adapted to my target audience, which is 16 – 23 year olds so I did not
want to overdo it. My layout is simple making it easy for my audience to navigate around.

I feel the main way I could improve upon the appearance of my work is the special offer at the top
of the page needs to be more visible as the purpose of this is to grab the attention of the audience.
I would also improve by adding search bars so that if they want to search for anything specific they
will be able to find it

My Social Media Account Professional Social Media Account

Discussion:
My social media is clearly not professional as you can see there is a lot more information and
there is access to information help lines in the professional social media making it of better value
and use. My social media is somewhat professional as it is easy accessible and people can contact
me.
To make it more professional I should add more information about my cause to spread awareness
and offer helplines to make it of value. I should also expand into another social media account to
gain a wider audience.

4. Use of Social Media


Social media is an excellent way to develop a personal media profile. This is because you have a 24/7
world wide audience and the majority of the people use social media so it is easily accessed. I have
used Facebook for my business as it is very popular and more people from my target audience use
this.

I have uploaded post regularly on my social media to keep people up to date with my business. I
have also used hashtags throughout my images because if someone searches up my hashtag it will
take them right to my page. I have uploaded images of my work to show the public what I can offer.
Social media can be used by anyone on a digital devise with internet free. It can also be accessed
anytime of the day so will be seen regularly.
5. Repurposing of media

Proposal

To re-purpose information is to adapt


it or amend it for a different purpose.
Within this project, I have frequently
changed information to use it in a
different format as a different way of
communicating with my target
audience. To upload word documents
on to my website I had to change
them to a PDF in order to make them
accessible on any device and used
less space. This allows me to look professional when I created my client briefs as it shows I had a full
understanding of all requirements of different projects. This shows how I work closely with clients as
I adapt to their needs. By uploading them as PDFs, it prevents others editing my materials. However,
it is time consuming as it takes time to save documents in this format and sometime the formatting
and fonts and the structure cane be lost.

PowerPoint Presentation

Another example of repurposing is shown through my PowerPoint presentation for my proposal,


here I summarised my proposal and made it visually appealing to my audience. I saved my
PowerPoint, as JPEG IS to allow me to enter them on my Media Profile in a visual way. I saved each
slide separately and placed them into a PowerPoint on my website, I done this as it was more
visually appealing and
prevented others from editing
my material. I made several
power point documents for my
client, as I wanted to show them
different ideas for example
mind map, moon boards and
storyboard. This is crucial as it
helps them picture what the
product is going to be like.
However, when saving my
presentation as a PDF I lose the
quality resolution and when people viewed them on different devices they will appear blurred.

Videos

I also repurposed my videos. I saved


them in a compressed format to
reduce the picture and sound quality
but was needed in order to be web-
friendly. I placed my videos on to the
public platform YouTube and then
embedded them into my website.
This makes my website more
interactive with my audience making
it more appealing to my audience. My original video was to stop people from smoking and was
recorded on IPad, as this is
compatible with the software I was
using to edit. It was very time
consuming when creating the videos
as I had to do a lot of pre-production
and retakes when shooting. Also
when reducing the resolution and
sound quality this reduced the overall
effectiveness of my video.

Posters and JPEGS

Finally, I also repurposed my posters into


JPEG’s. I had a range of products that
were on a scale of A1 and had a high
resolution. I needed to make them even
larger in order to display them in a large
scale and keep the high image quality.
However, in order to place them on to
my website I had to repurpose them and
reduce the image dimensions and
resolution so they could be placed
online. This is required to due screen
dimensions and download times. By doing this, they were quicker to upload onto my website
although there was a large-scale reduction in quality.
