Material Action cards (Annex 1) and Frequency cards (Annex 2).

Warm-up

Actions chain
Tell students you will start by saying and action. The next person should say your action and add
another one. Continue this way until the last person.

Context and language output:


1. Write the following on the board and elicit full question:

How _____ do you (go swimming) ?

2. Ask a student the question and write the frequency adverb on the board.

3. Elicit more frequency adverbs.

4. Ask each student to make a sentence with each frequency adverb.

Activity:

1. Tell students they will play a card game. The objective of the game is to ask and answer
questions about frequency. The goal is to get rid of all cards.

2. Distribute a set of Action cards per group and a set of Frequency cards per player.

3. Players place action cards in the center of the table face up (or down depending on the level of
students).

4. The first player must a) Choose another person to address the question, b) Choose an action
card and c) Choose one of his/her frequency cards (the one he/she thinks will be in the answer
of the person the player chose).

5. The player must ask the question using to the person he/she chose using the action on the
card he chose. The player must formulate the question correctly !

6. If the person answers with the Frequency adverb the player chose, he can show it and get rid
of it. Otherwise, he can’t show it and must keep it.

The group can decide if they accept an adverb that has the same meaning as valid. e.g. usually =
normally.

7. The player who gets rid of all of his/her cards, wins the game.
