18/6/19 Meng Kiat Saw’s experimental work update

1. Set up the plates with fresh pellets and heat releasing film and insert them into the Carver Hot
Press machine. Increase the temperature to 392F and zero pressure.
2. After 12 minutes, the set temperature has reached. Slowly increase the pressure. Maximum
pressure observed was 1502 psi.
3. After 1 hour, the pressure reading showed 1719 psi. Drop the temperature to 32 F, while
maintaining the pressure.
4. After 1.5 hours, the pressure reading showed 668 psi. The temperature at that moment was 167
F. Release the pressure to 0 psi and slowly remove the plates from the hot press.
5. The heat releasing film was removed easily.
6. The excess materials at 4 sides were removed.

7. Thickness measurements at 4 sides were measured using digital Vernier calliper:

3.55 mm, 3.58mm, 3.63mm, 3.53mm, with average of 3.57mm.
8. Perform resistivity measurements on this plate. The carbon felt was actually thicker after
measurement and on average it was 4.5mm.
