LESSON PLAN

(Detailed)

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the class, the students should be able to;
 identify the three different rules in simplifying an algebraic expression,
 perform the process of simplifying complex algebraic expression themselves, and
 appreciate the importance of simplifying complicated problem.
II. SUBJECT MATTERS
a. Topic: Simplifying An Algebraic Expression
b. Reference: Algebra 2, 35-36 page.
c. Materials: Manila Paper and Puzzle Pieces (Made of Recycled Material)
d. Values Integration: Learning to simplify complicated problems will give the
students clear understanding about how to deal with them in simple way.
III. PROCEDURES

Teacher’s Activities Student’s Activities

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

a. Prayer

 I am requesting everybody to
stand.
(The students will rise from their seats)
 Who can lead the prayer?

b. Greeting

 Good morning class.

Good morning sir, good morning
classmates and Assalamu Alaikom.
 Thank you, you may take your
seat now.
(The students will follow)

c. Checking Of Attendance

 Secretary, please check the

attendance of your classmates.
(The student will follow.)

d. Setting of Classroom
Standard
 What must you do during the
class?
(The students will answer.)
 What else?
(The students will answer.)
 Very good!
B. REVIEW

 What did we discuss last meeting?

(The students will answer.)
 Very good!

C. MOTIVATION
 Activity: (The students will be grouped
into 3 and each group will be given a
task to do.)
(The students will participate.)
D. LESSON PROPER

 *SIMPLIFYING ALGEBRAIC
EXPRESSION*

THREE RULES IN SIMPLIFYING ALGEBRAIC

EXPRESSION:
RULE # 1
 There is no change sign in the terms
of expression preceded by a plus sign.
Example:
=3 + (4x - 7y) + y
=3 + 4x - 7y + y
=3 + 4x - 6y

RULE # 2
 There is a change of sign when
preceded by a negative sign.
Example:
= -4x – (3y + 7x) – y
= -4x – 3y – 7x – y
= -11x – 4y

RULE # 3
 If more than one symbol ({ } braises,
( ) parenthesis, [ ] braquetes) remove
first the inner one.
Example:
= 5y – 4 {2x – 3 (3y – 5x) + x} – y
= 5y – 4 (2x – 9y + 15x + x) – y
= 5y – 8x + 36y – 60x – 4x – y
= – 72x + 40y

E. ANALYSIS

 How is it happened the rule number 1

stated that there is no need for the
sign to change while in the rule no. 2
stated it has to?
(The students will answer.)

 How can you relate to our topic?

(The students will answer.)

F. GENERALIZATION

 Do we really have to simplify complex

algebraic expression to clearly
understand the given problem? Why?

(The students will answer.)

G. APPLICATION

 Direction: simplify the following

algebraic expression.
1. 6a – 3b – 7c + 5a – 2c
2. -2(3x + 4y) – 8xy
3. x – 3{4x –2(2x) + 10y}
4. 2[ 3{5x – 6(2x)} + 8y] (The students will answer.)

H. EVALUATION

 INSTRUCTION:
 Get ½
sheet of yellow paper and
answer the following problems. (The students will follow.)

 Simplify the following algebraic

expression:
1. 6x + 4y – 2z + 2x – 3y – z
2. -x – {5x + 2y(x + 5z) – 8xy + 2yz}

I. ASSIGNMENT

 Simplify the following algebraic

expression:

1. x – 3y + 5 y – 2y + 6x
2. 4a – 5b{6(2 – c)}
3. 5[3x{5 – 2y + z( 2x – 3y)} – 5xyz
