SECTION A (40 Marks)


Attempt all questions from this Section.

Question 1

(a) If the polynomials 2x 3 + mx 2 + 3x − 5 and x 3 + x 2 − 4x + m leaves the same remainder


when divided by x-2, then find the value of m. [3]
(b) Rahul deposits Rs.1600 per month in a bank for 18 months in a recurring deposit account. If
he gets Rs. 31080 at the time of maturity, what is the rate of interest per annum? [3]
(c) In the given figure, ABC is a triangle with <EDB= <ACB. Find the area of triangle ABC if BE=
12 cm, EC= 8 cm, BD= 10 cm and area of triangle BED= 81 sq. cm.

(a) 𝑃′ is the image of P(4,6), when reflected in x- axis and 𝑄 ′ is the image of Q(1,2), when
reflected in the line 𝑃𝑃′ . Plot the points on the graph paper. What is the geometrical name
for the figure PQ𝑃′ 𝑄 ′ . [3]
(b) In the given figure, AB is the diameter of a circle with centre O. if <BCD= 130°, then find
<DBA.

(a) Solve the following in equation and represent your solution on the real number line:
2𝑥 − 5 ≤ 5𝑥 + 4 < 11, 𝑥 ∈ 𝐼. [3]

(b) Using the formula tan 2𝐴 = 2 tan 𝐴/ (1 − tan2 𝐴) , find the value of tan 15° [4]
(c) Marks obtained by 40 students in a short assessment are given below. If the mean of the
distribution is 7.2, find the values of a and b.

Question 4

(a) A bag contains 4 white balls and some red balls. If the probability of drawing a white ball
from the bag is 2/5, find the number of red balls in the bag. [3]
(b) If h, c and v be the height, curved surface and volume of a cone, then prove that
3πvh3 − c 2 h2 + 9v 2 = 0 [4]
(c) Find the sum: 34 + 32 + 30 + …. + 10 [3]

Question 5

(a) Determine the ratio of the volume of a cube to that of a sphere which will exactly fit inside
the cube. [3]
(b) Mr. Dubey invests Rs. 9000 in 8%, RS. 10 shares at Rs. 15. He sells the shares, when the price
rises to Rs. 30 and invests the proceeds in 12%, Rs. 100 shares at Rs. 125. Calculate the
number of Rs. 125 shares he buys. [3]
(c) Prove that the locus of the centers of all circles passing through two points A and B is the
perpendicular bisector of the line segment AB. [4]

(a) For what value/s of k the quadratic equation (𝑘 + 4)𝑥 2 + (𝑘 + 1)𝑥 + 1 = 0 has equal roots.

(b) A doorway is decorated as shown in the figure. There are four semi circles. BC, the diameter
of the larger semi-circle is of length 84 cm. Centers of the three equal semi circles lie on BC.
ABC is an isosceles triangle with AB=AC. If BO= OC, find the area of the shaded region.

(b) A straight highway leads to the foot of a tower. A man standing at the top of the tower
observes a car at an angle of depression of 30°, which is approaching the foot of tower with a
uniform speed Six minutes later, the angle of depression of the car, is found to be 60°. Find
the time taken by the car to reach the foot of the tower. [4]
(c) Find the value of p for which the lines 2x+3y-7=0 and 4y-px-12=0 are perpendicular to each
other. [3]

Question 8

(a) In the following figure, O is the centre of the circle and AB is a tangent to it at point B. If
<BDC=65°, find (i) <BCD (ii) <BOA (iii) <BAO.

(b) The printed price of an article is Rs. 60,000. The wholesaler allows a discount of 20% to the
shopkeeper. The shopkeeper sells the article to the customer at the printed price. Sales tax
(under VAT) is charged at the rate of 6% at every stage. Find
i. The Cost to shopkeeper inclusive of tax.
ii. the VAT paid by the shopkeeper to the government.
iii. The cost to customer inclusive of tax. [3]

(c) If a+c=mb and 𝑏 + 𝑑 = 𝑐 , then prove that a, b, c, d are in continued proportion. [3]

Question 9

(a) In an auditorium, seats were arranged in rows and columns. The number of rows was equal
to number of seats in each row. When the number of rows was doubled and the number of
seats in each row was reduced by 10, the total number of seats increased by 300. Find (i) the
number of rows in the original arrangement, (ii) the number of seats in the auditorium after
rearrangement. [4]

(b) The following table shows the distribution of marks in Mathematics:

With the help of a graph paper, taking 2 cm = 10 units along one axis and 2 cm = 20 units along the
other axis, plot an ogive for the above distribution and use it to find the:
(i) median. (ii) number of students who scored distinction marks (75% and above) (iii) number of
students, who passed the examination if pass marks is 35%. [6]

(a) Prove that two tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are of equal length. [3]

(c) Find the equation of the perpendicular bisector of line segment joining A(4, 2) and B(-3,5).

Question 11

(a) Construct a triangle PQR, given RQ= 10 cm, <PRQ = 75° and base RP= 8 cm. Find by
construction:
(i) The locus of points which are equidistant from QR and QP.
(ii) The locus of points which are equidistant from P and Q.
(iii) Mark the point O which satisfies conditions (i) and (ii). [4]

(b) If 12th term of an A.P. is -13 and the sum of the first four terms is 24, what is the sum of first
10 terms? [3]
(c) A box consists of 4 red, 5 black and 6 white balls. One ball is drawn out at random. Find the
probability that the ball drawn is: (i) black (ii) red or white. [3]
