ABSTRACT
The main objective of the research is to analyze and compare the behavior of the asphalt
mixtures, which are transformed in relation to the normal asphalt. The materials used for
the transformation of this mixture are of plastic origin as the elastomer, which comes from
tires out of use and the polyethylene terephthalate that comes from the plastic bottles that
have been recycled, this with the purpose of instituting an option of application of said
materials that generate pollution to the environment.
With the use of the Ecuadorian Road Standards NEVI-12, the granulometry
corresponding to the MAC-2 Normal Asphalt Mix is established for a stony material of
maximum nominal size ¾ ". In the laboratory the meticulous analysis of each one of the
materials to be used as the aggregate, asphalt cement, elastomer and polyethylene
terephthalate was carried out. Using the Marshall Method, a stability and briquette flow
test was developed to determine the optimum percentage of the original asphalt mix and
immediately proceed to increase the recycled materials in previously determined variable
percentages.
Finally, the result of the behavior of the new asphalt will be observed, submitting it to a
thermal shock test.
