Additional Tips

Sample Spiels to help you out create

your own way to build rapport towards
the Student
Greetings and Introductions

Construct an introduction that can build rapport towards the

students.

Ask simple questions (not personal questions ex. age/civil status

etc)

Create a short introduction to for the lesson material.

**Introduction : Maximum 3 minutes, but not less than 2

minutes**
SAMPLE INTRODUCTION
Teacher : Hi, Good morning! Welcome to our lesson/class. My name is Teacher ___,
and I will be your teacher for today. Before we start, can you tell me your name?
Student: My name is Alice
Teacher: oh, Hi Alice! Nice to meet you, how are you today? / how are you doing
today?
Student: I am doing good today, teacher. How about you?
Teacher: I am doing good as well, thank you for asking. Now, before we start with
our class, I just want to know, why do you want to improve your English skills?
Student: I want to work/study abroad, I want to have promotion, etc (possible
answers)
Teacher: oh, I see, that's great. Don't worry I will try my best to help you out with
today's lesson and I hope you can learn a lot.
Teacher: Now, before we start I just need to confirm the title of our lesson today, is
Lesson (say the lesson number#) , and the title is (say the title of the lesson) is that
correct?
Student: yes, teacher.
Teacher: Great!, do you have the book?
Warming up / Vocabulary
This is the part where in we can introduce new words and
expressions to the students.

Do not explain all of the words, first let the student read the
words and definition first.

for the vocabulary/words :

"for the first part, we are going to talk about words and
vocabulary, before we continue with the lesson, kindly read the
five words and their definition"
Warming up / Vocabulary

*to check student's understanding* :

"with all the five words that you’ve just read, is there a word that
you don't know?"

Questions to check on student's understanding :

"do you have any questions about the words/article/discussion?"
"with all the five words that you just read, is there a word that you
don't know"
Article/ Short Story
Do not read the article all by yourself, and PLEASE do not let
the student read it all by themselves as well.

Let them know that you a team, you partner with them while
reading the article.

Introduce the second part and let them know what you are going
to do.
Article/ Short Story
for the second part (Article/Short Story):
"since you don’t have any other questions about the vocabulary
words, let's continue with the article. Now for the article we are
going to have a reading exercise. But I am going to need your
help with this part. I will read a part of the article and I would like
you to continue until we finish reading it."
short article : “we are going to talk about a short article, before
that please read the article.”
"thank you for reading the article, now, what can you say about
it?"
“can you summarize the main idea of the article”
“before we continue to the next part, do you have any questions
about the article?”
Discussion/Q&A
This is your chance to persuade the student to speak up their
minds and express their ideas.

You can share your opinions/experience first then you let them
answer the questions.

Discussion :
"Now for the discussion, I am going to ask you a couple of
questions and I would like to hear your opinion or maybe some of
your experiences as well."
Wrap-Up
Sample wrap-up:

“for today's lesson we were able to talk about ____________. You

were able to read the vocabulary words and you also shared your
opinions during the discussion. However you have some
mispronounced words and i still need you to check and review the
class remarks. Now, before we end the class, do you have any
questions about the lesson today?”
