EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The study aimed to determine the level of parental involvement of the senior high school students of
Naujan Municipal High School. It also tried to identify the relationship between parental involvement
and the academic performance of the students. Respondents of the study were 96 parents purposely
selected for the study. Parents were identified from the upper and lower 6 students overall rank per
section. A semi-structured questionnaire patterned from a reviewed study and anchored on Epstein's
Six Types of Parental Involvement was used to determine the extent of parental involvement, while
students' performance was based on the general average of the first quarter grade. The questionnaire
was divided into six parts namely: parenting, learning at home, volunteering, decision-making,
community collaboration and communicating. Grades of the students from the general average of the
first quarter grade was used to describe students' performance.
Gathered data was treated using descriptive statistics such as mean , frequency and
percentage. Pearson's r was also used to determine relationship between the variables. It was found
out that parents of the students in the higher rank and parents of the students in the lower rank both
showed high level of parental involvement. Among the components of parental involvement, parenting
was found to be the strongest while communicating was the weakest. It was further revealed in the
study that parental involvement has significant relationship on the academic performance of students
in case of upper class but no significant relationship in the lower class and therefore concluded that
other factors may have been the cause of this low academic performance of students.
