Installing and Configuring License Server

Installing and Configuring License Server

All Mentor Graphics products require licensing to be installed and configured properly before
invoking and operating them. It is recommended that licensing be installed before installing
applications. For more licensing information, refer to the Download tab on SupportNet or the
release_documents directory at the top level of the DVD/CD ROM for the following
documents:

 Licensing Mentor Graphics Software manual for detailed licensing information for the
system administrator, mgc_licen.pdf
 License Administration Guide, flexnet_lic_admin.pdf
To install the FloEFD License Server:

1. Navigate to the directory where you extracted the release to. Double-click setup.exe to
start the install program.
Alternatively, if you are installing from DVD/CD ROM, insert the disc into your drive.
If the installation does not automatically start, select Start > Run, specify the DVD/CD
ROM drive letter and install executable (for example D:\setup.exe) and click OK.
If you receive a security error during the download, it’s possible you are dealing with a
local security policy. For example:
Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only.

The security policy needs to be disabled through the policy editor, per Microsoft article
290896. Modify the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon - AllocateCDRoms must = 0 (zero)
Note
You must have Administrator privileges to install the software products on Windows®
systems.

Creating an Administrative Image

An administrative image allows configurable installations of FloEFD from a single network
location. You can install the administrative image from any computer on the network, including
a client computer.

o The administrative image must be in a shared folder.

o Clients must have administrative privileges on their computers.
1. You can create an administrative image from the Command Line. See “Running an
Installation from the Command Line”.
At the command prompt, type the following command:
msiexec /a Msi_path

where Msi_path is the location of the .msi file for your operation system. The
FloEFD 12 for Creo.msi is located in the
“<path_to_the_CDImage>\FloEFD\Setup\” (<path_to_the_CDImage>\FloEFD-
x64\Setup\ for the x64 version) subdirectory.

You can create an administrative image silently by typing the “msiexec.exe” command
with the “/qb” switch and setting the path to the administrative image directory.
For example:
msiexec /a "<path_to_the_CDImage>\FloEFD\Setup\FloEFD 12 for
Creo.msi" TARGETDIR=<Admin_image_dir> /qb

where <Admin_image_dir> is the path to the administrative image directory.

2. After creating the administrative image and before notifying clients, you must prepare
clients for Installation from an Administrative Image. See “Installing the Prerequisite
Software”.
3. Once you have created a shared administrative image directory, you can notify clients
by email.
Configure the administrative image directory to be shared on a machine that is
accessible to other computers (for example, through a UNC path).
You can send an email containing a link to <Admin_image_dir>\FloEFD 12 for
Creo.msi to all clients. Clients then can click this link and then click Install to start the
installation from the administrative image.
You can automatically deploy an administrative image using a command prompt or batch file
(silent installation). See “Silent Installation”.

installation of FloEFD for Creo 12 and components can be performed by simply sending a
command from a command-line tool.

1. Before installing FloEFD for Creo 12 silently, you must first install the prerequisite
software. See “Installing the Prerequisite Software”.
2. To install FloEFD for Creo 12 silently:
a. At the command prompt, type the “msiexec.exe” command with the “/i” and
“/qb” switches and set the properties for any options that are not the default values
as shown below.
Individual installation component command-line properties include:
o Command-Line Feature Properties
o Command-Line Global Properties
When specifying properties for command-line installation:
o Properties are case sensitive, cannot contain spaces or dashes, and must be
separated by commas.

application to be installed correctly.
b. Press Enter to execute the command.
Use the following examples as templates for silent installation.
o Install the License Server:

Server.msi" LICSERVER_PORT=1717
LICENSE_FILE="<path_to_your_license_file>" INSTALLDIR="C:\Program
Files\your_installation_folder" /qb

o Install x64 version of FloEFD for Creo 12 with typical features:
