For additional reference while loading software, Mentor Graphics provides key system
documentation on SupportNet and the install DVD/CD ROM. Refer to the following manuals:

Ordering Licenses
New users must order software licenses prior to installing Mentor Graphics software. To order
licenses, contact your local Mentor Graphics sales office. They can provide you with
information on the number of node-locked and floating licenses your company purchased and
any current license sever configurations you may have. You must provide them with:

To install the FloEFD License Server:
1. Navigate to the directory where you extracted the release to. Double-click setup.exe to
start the install program.
Alternatively, if you are installing from DVD/CD ROM, insert the disc into your drive.
If the installation does not automatically start, select Start > Run, specify the DVD/CD
ROM drive letter and install executable (for example D:\setup.exe) and click OK.
If you receive a security error during the download, it’s possible you are dealing with a
local security policy. For example:
Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only.
The security policy needs to be disabled through the policy editor, per Microsoft article
290896. Modify the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon - AllocateCDRoms must = 0 (zero)
Note
You must have Administrator privileges to install the software products on Windows®
systems.
2. In the FloEFD for Creo 12 window, click Install License Server. Wait while the setup
Wizard prepares for the License Server installation.
Click Next to display the License Agreement screen.
3. Read the licensing agreement and select I accept the terms in the license agreement to
accept. Click Next to display the Destination Folder screen.
4. Accept the default target path or click Change to select the target directory.
Click Next to display the License file screen.
5. Specify the License file location by typing the source path in the License file field or
click Browse to select the License file.
Note
You can use any free port number in the range from 1024 to 64000. This port must not be
used by any other process. You will be able to change these settings after finishing the
installation. See “Setting Up Licensing by License Wizard”.
The security policy needs to be disabled through the policy editor, per Microsoft article
290896. Modify the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon - AllocateCDRoms must = 0 (zero)
Caution
You must have Administrator privileges to install the software products on Windows®
systems.
2. In the FloEFD for Creo 12 window, click Install FloEFD for Creo (or Install FloEFD
for Creo x64, if you want to install the x64 version). Wait while the setup Wizard
prepares for the FloEFD installation.
Click Next to display the License Agreement screen.
Note
If a warning message appears, you will need to connect FloEFD to Creo Elements/Pro or
Creo Parametric manually after installation. See “Troubleshooting”.
3. Read the licensing agreement and select I accept the terms in the license agreement to
accept. Click Next to dispay the Customer Information screen.
Note
You can skip this step and specify the license server or license file after finishing the
installation by using License Wizard tool. See “Setting Up Licensing by License
Wizard”.
Note
If any FloEFD product has not been installed yet, also specify the target directory for the
standalone solver.
Note
You can use any free port number in the range from 1024 to 64000. This port must not be
used by any other process. You will be able to change these settings after finishing the
installation.
Caution
If you use several Mentor products simultaneously, you will need to specify a unique port
number for each product.
o The Solver Only setup type will only configure the computer to act as a remote
solver for the computers, where FloEFD is installed.
Click Next.
9. If you selected the Custom type of installation in the previous step, select the program
features to install by clicking on the appropriate icons in the list and selecting whether
the feature will be installed on the local hard drive or will not be available.
Click Next to display the Ready to Install the Program screen.
10. Confirm the product selections by clicking Install.
11. Click Finish when the installation is complete.
Caution
If any reboot requests occur after the installation process, respond Yes.
Command-Line Deployment
You can install FloEFD for Creo 12 without launching the graphic interface. The two alternate
installation methods are silent and console.
The console method is useful if you want to interact with the installation program but you do not
have a computer capable of displaying the graphic interface (for example, if you are accessing
the computer remotely in a secure shell). Alternatively, the silent method is useful if you access
the computers remotely. See “Silent Installation”.
The executable program that interprets packages and installs products is “msiexec.exe”.
Caution
You must have Administrator privileges to install the software products on Windows®
systems.
The Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package and the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable
Package are located in the
“<path_to_the_CDImage>\Prerequisites\Microsoft_C++_2005_Redistributable\”,
“<path_to_the_CDImage>\Prerequisites\Microsoft_C++_2008_Redistributable\”and
“<path_to_the_CDImage>\Prerequisites\Microsoft_C++_2010_Redistributable\”
subdirectories respectively, where <path_to_the_CDImage> is the path to the installation disk
or to the directory where you extracted the release to) subdirectory.
1. Open a Command Prompt window. To do so, select Start > Run. In the text box, type
cmd and click OK.
Note
When working with Windows® 7 or Vista open a command prompt in administrator
mode by right-clicking and choosing “Run as administrator” (or use the
Ctrl+Shift+Enter shortcut from the search box).
2. At the command prompt, enter the following command and press Enter to execute the
command:

To install Visual C++ Redistributable Packages silently, use the command-line option
“/Q” (for example, “vcredist_x86.exe /Q”).
1. Before installing FloEFD for Creo 12 using the command line, you must first install the
prerequisite software. See “Installing the Prerequisite Software”.
2. Open a Command Prompt window. To do so, select Start > Run. In the text box, type
cmd and click OK.
Note
When working with Windows® 7 or Vista open a command prompt in administrator
mode by right-clicking and choosing “Run as administrator” (or use the
Ctrl+Shift+Enter shortcut from the search box).
3. Enter the “msiexec.exe” command with “/i” switch to install or with “/x” switch to
uninstall and set the properties for any options that are not the default values as shown
below. Press Enter to execute the command.
For example, to install 32-bit version of FloEFD with all options, type the following
command:
msiexec /i "<path_to_the_CDImage>\FloEFD\Setup\FloEFD 12 for
Creo.msi" ADDLOCAL=ALL INSTALLDIR="C:\Program
Files\your_installation_folder"
Note
Command-line properties are case sensitive, cannot contain spaces or dashes, and must be
separated by commas.
where Msi_path is the location of the .msi file for your operation system. The
FloEFD 12 for Creo.msi is located in the
“<path_to_the_CDImage>\FloEFD\Setup\” (<path_to_the_CDImage>\FloEFD-
x64\Setup\ for the x64 version) subdirectory.
You can create an administrative image silently by typing the “msiexec.exe” command
with the “/qb” switch and setting the path to the administrative image directory.
For example:
msiexec /a "<path_to_the_CDImage>\FloEFD\Setup\FloEFD 12 for
Creo.msi" TARGETDIR=<Admin_image_dir> /qb
Silent Installation
A silent installation is administered without the display of a user interface or dialog boxes. In
network environments it is often an advantage if you can run a setup program silently. A silent
installation of FloEFD for Creo 12 and components can be performed by simply sending a
command from a command-line tool.
1. Before installing FloEFD for Creo 12 silently, you must first install the prerequisite
software. See “Installing the Prerequisite Software”.
2. To install FloEFD for Creo 12 silently:
a. At the command prompt, type the “msiexec.exe” command with the “/i” and
“/qb” switches and set the properties for any options that are not the default values
as shown below.
Individual installation component command-line properties include:
o Command-Line Feature Properties
o Command-Line Global Properties
When specifying properties for command-line installation:
o Properties are case sensitive, cannot contain spaces or dashes, and must be
separated by commas.
o PRJ_Program, Licensing and English must be specified for the FloEFD
application to be installed correctly.
b. Press Enter to execute the command.
Use the following examples as templates for silent installation.
o Install the License Server:
msiexec /i "<path_to_the_CDImage>\License Server\FloEFD License
Server.msi" LICSERVER_PORT=1717
LICENSE_FILE="<path_to_your_license_file>" INSTALLDIR="C:\Program
Files\your_installation_folder" /qb
1. If installing from DVD/CD ROM, follow the instructions here to mount the DVD/CD
ROM. If installing from a downloaded Release, proceed to Step 2.
Note
Mounting and unmounting the DVD/CD ROM on UNIX systems requires “root”
privileges. However, installing the application software does not require “root”
privileges.
Note
By default, users are allowed to write files to $HOME only. If you need to copy the file to
an alternate location, “root” privileges are required.
By default, files will be extracted into the FloEFD-12.0.0-Linux directory under the
current working directory. To change the destination path use "-C" option. In this
example, extract files in /opt/MentorGraphics directory:
tar -zxf FloEFD-12.0.0-Linux.tar.gz -C /opt/MentorGraphics
4. Edit the configuration file located in the <install_path>/FloEFD-12.0.0-
Linux/bin/FloEFD-config.sh to specify the License server name in the format:
port_number@server_name
MGLS_LICENSE_FILE=1717@<server>
1. Run the License Wizard tool from the Start > FloEFD for Creo 12 > Tools program
group.
2. If you want to specify a new license file select Import a Mentor Graphics License
File.
Caution
Importing a license file will disable licensing for other Mentor Graphics products using
the mgcld FlexLM license daemon/service.
a. Click Next.
b. Click Browse to specify a new license file.
c. Click Finish to complete the license setup and exit the License Wizard.
3. If you want to specify an existing license server select Point to an existing Mentor
Graphics License Server.
a. Specify the server name by typing its address and the port number.
b. Click View Server Status... to check its status and the number of available licenses.
c. Click Finish to complete the license setup and exit the License Wizard.
4. If you want to obtain the host ID required for requesting a license file select Obtain host
ID to request license keys from Mentor Graphics.
a. Click Next.
b. Click Save Host ID Info to a File... and specify the path where you want to save it,
then click Save.
Click Finish to exit the License Wizard or click Back to return to the License Wizard menu.
1. Select Start > FloEFD for Creo 12 > License Manager > Customize Features.
2. In the Features configurations list select the features you need. The list of features may
vary depending on the license you have.
3. .Click OK to confirm the selection.
1. Select Start > FloEFD for Creo 12 > Tools > Remote Solver Setup.
2. Enter the full path to the desired directory manually or click Browse to select the
directory if you want to change the directory.
3. Enter new remote solver port number, if you want to change the port number.
The number of port used by the remote solver when you run the calculation on this
computer from another computer in the network. The port number must be in the range
from 1024 to 65535. The specified port number must not be in use by any other process.
If you are not sure that the specified port number is appropriate for your system, please
contact your system administrator.
4. Click OK to confirm the change.
Troubleshooting
If the message “A suitable version of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire or Creo Parametric was not
found on your computer” appears during the installation process, you will need to follow the
instructions below:
1. For CreoTM Elements/ProTM or CreoTM Parametric copy the FloEFD image file:

In case of Pro/ENGINEER® Wildfire® 4.0 before opening protk.dat, edit it as shown
below:
