My Meaningful Public Speaking Field Trip

INTRODUCTION

(Greeting) Good Morning. It is my pleasure standing here today. I am Nurul Aziza Safira

Santoso from English Department, Diponegoro University. I am honored to be given an

opportunity to deliver a speech entitled “Meaningful Public Speaking Field Trip”. In

this speech, i would like to share with you my experience during the field trip i did for

my Public Speaking class from April 24th to April 28th 2019. As all of you also

participated in the field trip, i would like to remind you the lessons we can learn from our

field trip.

(Purpose of the Speech) This morning, I would like to share with you about first, my

personal opinion on the field trip activities; second, the comparison and contrast of public

speaking at Talk-Inc, National Geographic, and Zeno PR; and finally the lessons that i

learned from Public Speaking field trip.

(Personal Story) Before we start, let me ask you how do you feel when you are going to

speak in front of people? Most of us feel our heart is pumping fast, we have got sweaty

palms, and our mind is racing. Yeah, all of these are symptomps of problems associated

with public speaking. I had an experience when i was in Senior High School. One day, i

followed a research paper competition individually. Beside i had to collect my paper, i

should present to the judges what i wrote on my paper. During i delivered my

presentation, i was really nervous. My heart was beating fast and i could not enjoy my

presentation at all. I was too worry if i could not present for the alloted time. Even worse,

after i did my presentation, two of the judges gave me a question which was actually easy

to answer, but because i was too nervous, so my mind got blank, and i answered

doubtfully. Whereas, my teacher said that the content of my paper was complete and good

enough, but because my presentation was really bad, so i could not got the maximum

result. Since then, speaking in front of people confidently is my strong desire untill now.

(Transition) Let me start by sharing with you my personal opinion of the field trip.

BODY

(First Main Point) Although the trip was tiring due to the long way to go there, i enjoyed

all the activities during the field trip.

1. The four-day trip with the many places to visit was tiring because too much traffic

jams faced

2. Our visit began with Talk Inc on the first day, continued to National Geographic,

and Zeno PR on the following day

(Transition) Next, i would like to discuss further the public speaking activities at Talk-

Inc, National Geographic, and Zeno PR by comparing and contrasting them.

(Second Main Point) As we know, Talk Inc, National Geographic, and Zeno PR were

corporation with different background.

1. In handling the event, they all were profesional.

2. Based on the materials given, Talk Inc was the most complete.
(Transition) The last point that i would like to discuss is the importance of preparing the

speech well.

(Third Main Point) Preparation is the key to a good speech or presentation.

1. There are three cornerstones to any speech or presentation: the speaker; the

subject; and the audience

2. A speech or presentation should be built around a key message.

CONCLUSION

Finally, this was my first meaningful college field trip. Visiting three big corporations for

learning Public Speaking has given me new experiences and knowledge. It might be

tiring, but it was paid off with new experiences and knowledge i got. One of them is the

importance of preparing our speech, because preparation is the key to a good speech or

presentation. All three corporations we visited has each weakness and strength, but what

we should emphasize is we do not need to regret what makes us disappointed or not

satisfied, but how we can enjoy the field trip, so that many lessons learned in every single

thing we do during the activity.

That is all for me, thank you for your attention.
