Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Kahoot is a fun tool for students to utilize speed and accuracy in taking
a small quiz. It also brings competition into the classroom which can also be used as a source of motivation
for the students. Having some competition in the classroom is beneficial for students. Sometimes it can bring
some collaboration between the students. But for this assessment, it is being used to assess the students on
what they learned from the lesson. If there is collaboration, the teacher won’t know who is struggling. For
representation, Kahoot color codes the answers and also pairs them with shapes to make the answering
process easier for the students. For expression (how), the students are answering the questions with their
fingers on the iPads instead of using a pen, pencil, or paper. For the why, Kahoot forces active participation in
the game.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Before students take the quiz, they will be learning about the different parts of a plant by using Nearpod.
They will also be able to plant something of their own to give them their own visual representation of
something they grew themselves. They also learn what it takes to grow a plant from a seed.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: Students during the SRT activity will each have
an iPad to play Kahoot on. Each student will be given the same question at the same time. They will have
twenty seconds to answer each question. The teacher will set up the assessment prior to the students taking
it. The teacher will also be watching to see who is getting the answers right and who is not so they can figure
out who needs help understanding. The activity will last less than five minutes.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response
If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? After each question, the students will be able to see if their answer was right or wrong. I
think it is important for students to receive immediate feedback so I can fix the disconnect as soon as I see it.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the SRT, the teacher will see the average on the questions that Kahoot provides. Kahoot puts all of the
scores into graphs to see what was missed the most. The teacher will also be able to see who was in the top
three at the end to see who understood the material before the SRT the most.
How will the data be used? The data collected from this quiz will be used to see who needs more practice on
the topic or what needs to be gone over again to make sure it is understood by everyone. This assessment will
not be used to give the students a grade. This is meant to be a fun way for the students and the teacher to
see who understands the material and who doesn’t without the pressure of a grade looming over the
student’s heads. The data will be shared with the students but no one will be singled out in the process. If I
know who is struggling with material or if a term was missed by more than one student, the material will be
revisited to make sure everyone understands by visually showing them a plant they can touch and see.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. This assessment is a way for me to assess my students
without giving the full label of a quiz or test. Sometimes students are affected by the assessment getting an
official label and a grade. This quiz is just a way for me to see who understood the material and who didn’t. I
hoping this will give the students confidence when a real grades assessment comes.
Reflective Practice: After this, I think this is a good perspective to look from when testing students.
Sometimes students don’t do their best because they are nervous of the outcome. This could bring students
confidence when a real test comes. To extend the lesson, it could be given before and after the lesson to see
if a teaching method worked or not with the students.
