ing the nuclear medicine department
is also part of this $1.63 million proj-
ect, funded by the Province of BC/
Interior Health (IH) and the West
Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospi-
tal District.
Construction will temporarily sus-
pend nuclear medicine testing at the
hospital for about 15 weeks, with
expected completion at the end of
September. Other medical imaging
services (X-ray, ultrasound, CT and
MRI) will not be impacted.
Information for patients: Dur-
ing construction and installation of
the new machine, patients requir-
ing nuclear medicine exams will be
directed to Penticton Regional Hos-
pital or alternate facilities based on
their care needs.
Patients should discuss their spe-
cific imaging needs with their family
physician or specialist. Imaging like
CT or ultrasound may be an alterna-
tive in some cases.

ders and other abnormalities within
the body.

Kootenay Lake Hospital
Kootenay Lake Hospital is home to a thriving operating
room, which is used over 2,000 hours per year for ortho-
pedic surgeries, cataract surgery, obstetrical and gyne-
cologic surgeries and general surgeries such as hernia
repairs and colonoscopies.
Interior Health recognizes the excellent surgical ser-
vices at Kootenay Lake Hospital and has increased fund-
ing to enable a nearly 50% increase in colonoscopies
performed at KLH this year. With increased procedures
comes the need for new, state of the art equipment. Our
goal this spring is to purchase a new colonoscope for our
hospital. The technological upgrades in the new colono-
scope provide enhanced imaging and maneuverability,
which are important factors in determining abnormali-
ties in the colon.
