CHARACTERISTICS OF A TYPICAL POWER SYSTEM LOAD


Aim: To plot the static characteristics of a typical power system load.
Apparatus Required:

Procedure:

1. Connections are made as per the circuit diagram.

2. Switch on the supply and close the TPST Switch.

3. Vary the three phase variac till the voltmeter reads the rated voltage of
Induction motor.

4. Now, Load the I.M with approximately 4kg.Then reduce the voltage
slowly at each point and note down wattmeter, current and voltage
readings.

5. While reducing the voltage, care must be taken in not allowing the
current more than full load current.

6. Now, bring the variac to minimum voltage position then open the TPST
switch and switch off the supply.
