1.0 SCOPE
This specification covers design manufacture and testing of the following PVC Insulated
Aluminum Service Wires.
The items and components supplied shall be in accordance with the latest edition of the
standard specified below and amendments thereof.
1
CEB STANDARD 005 : 2005
5.1 General
The Service Main wires shall be 300/500 Volt Grade and shall generally comply with BS
6004(2000) in regard to thickness of the Insulation and the Sheath. The formation of
insulation and overall sheathing shall be as per Drawing No, COD/DO/2005/40.
The Core for the wires stipulated under Clause 5.2.1. and 5.2.2 shall be ¾ Hard Drawn
Aluminum (H6).
The Insulation shall be of extruded PVC Type T11 complying with BS 7655 part 3.
The Sheath shall be of extruded PVC Type TM 1 as per BS 7655 part 4. It shall fit closely
to avoid ingress of moisture while in service but shall not adhere to the Insulation or to
the bare conductor so that it shall be possible to remove the Sheath easily without
damage to the insulation.
5.2 Manufacture
5.2.1 Twin Service Main Wire both cores Insulated and Sheathed
The Service Main Wire shall be twin type, the colours of the PVC insulation shall be as
indicated in the schedule of prices and both laid in parallel and sheathed with Black PVC
overall.
The Sheath shall separate the insulated conductors by a minimum thickness of 3.5mm to
provide additional Phase to Neutral/Phase Insulation. In addition to this, a grove of width
not less than 1mm shall be provided on the sheath between phase and the Neutral/Phase
so that both could be separated easily without bearing the Neutral as per drawing no
COD/DO/2005/40.
Cross sectional area of the cores shall be (10mm2 /16mm2 ) as indicated in he schedule of
Prices.
5.2.2 Twin Service Main Wire one core Insulated, other core bare and both Sheathed.
The Service Main Wire shall be of twin type, one Core shall be Red colored PVC Insulated,
the other core bare, laid parallel and both cores sheathed with Black PVC overall.
The Sheath shall separate the bear neutral conductor from the Red PVC Insulation by a
minimum thickness of 3.5mm to provide additional Phase to Neutral Insulation. In
addition to this, a grove of width not less than 1mm shall be provided on the sheath
between phase and the Neutral so that both could be separated easily without bearing the
Neutral as per drawing no COD/DO/2005/40.
Cross sectional area of the core shall be (10mm/16mm) as indicated in the schedule of
Prices.
5.3 Marking
The outer sheath, of the Wire shall be embossed with letter “CEB” followed by the
Manufacturer’s identification at every 500mm. Or less along the length of the Wire.
2
CEB STANDARD 005 : 2005
5.4 Packing
The Wire shall be delivered in 100-250 Metre Coils wrapped in polythene (as stipulated in
the schedule of prices).
Each coil shall bear a tag under the polythene wrappings showing the Manufacture’s
Name or TradeMark, Type of Wire, Length of Wire and Insulation Colour.
The Purchaser shall supply Aluminum Re -draw Roads of E.C. Grade 9, 5mm diameter in
Coil of 1.5 MT approximately to the Manufacturer.
For the manufacture of Service Main Wire following quantities of Aluminum Re -draw
Rods shall be supplied.
If any additional quantity of Aluminum Re -draw Rods are require d the Manufacturer
Shall provide the same at his cost.
The scrap aluminum shall remain the property of the Manufacturer. The Manufacturer
Shall collect the Aluminum Re -Rods from the Purchaser’s Stores.
The test report shall conform to the relevant standards specified (BS2627 for
aluminum conductors, BS 7655 part 3 & 4 for insulation and sheathing and BS
6004 for cable).
