Hamilton, OH 45056

Dear Professor Cinnamon:

I am writing to advise you that you are being placed on an interim suspension, effective
immediately. The Miami University Police Department provided me with a report indicating that you
have admitted to illegally importing Iboga seeds from Gabon Africa in 2004 and gave the seeds to
Professor Daniel GIadish to grow an Iboga tree and that you knew that such tree was being grown in the
Miami University Hamilton Campus Conservatory. These actions are in violation of law (possession of
Schedule I Narcotic, 21 C.F.R. Section 1308.1 1) and University policy, including but not limited to the
Drug Free Workplace Policy and the Reporting and Addressing Illegal Activity and Misconduct policy.

The following terms of suspension are imposed:

1. You are to have no contact with any Miami University student whether in person, electronically,
or via a third person intermediary.
2. You are barred from all Miami University campuses during the period of suspension leave
except as set forth in #3 below.
3. You may be present on the Oxford campus only for meetings with the Provost and the
Committee on Faculty Rights and Responsibilities pursuant to the University's Procedures for
Disciplinary Action. You must notify the Office of the Provost at least 24 hours in advance of
any plan to be present on University property.

You have the right to meet with me and to have that meeting held before 5:00 p.m. of the next
business day following your receipt of this letter or to request a meeting with the Committee on Faculty
Rights and Responsibilities as provided in the University's Procedures for Disciplinary Action-

If you wish to meet regarding this suspension, please call Ms. Stacy Kawamura in my office at
529-6721. If you would like to bring an advisor with you, please feel free to do so. Similarly, if you
would rather bring legal counsel with you, please notify Ms. Kawamura so that I may arrange to have
university counsel present.

Thank you,

Dear Professor Cinnamon;

The Miami University Police Department provided me with a report indicating that you have admitted to
illegally importing Iboga seeds from Gabon Africa in 2004 and gave the seeds to Professor Daniel
Gladish to grow an Iboga tree and that you knew that such tree was being grown in the Miami University
Hamilton Campus Conservatory. A copy of the Miami University Police Report is enclosed. These
actions are in violation of law (possession of Schedule I Narcotic, 21 C.F.R. Section 1308.11) and
University policy, including but not limited to the Drug Free Workplace Policy and the Reporting and
Addressing illegal Activity and Misconduct policy.

It is my judgment that this information, if true, constitutes grounds for termination of your tenured
appointment as a faculty member. Disciplinary actions, once initiated, become matters of public record
and are placed in an employee's public personnel file.

I want to offer you the opportunity to meet with me to discuss this matter in the hope that we might be
able to reach some agreement as to the appropriate action to be taken without resort to formal disciplinary
proceedings. If you are amenable to such a meeting, please call Ms. Stacy Kawamura in my office at 529-
6721, by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019, to make an appointment to meet with me. If you would
like to bring an advisor with you, please feel free to do so. Similarly, if you would prefer to bring legal
counsel with you, please notify Ms. Kawamura so that I may arrange to have university counsel present.

I am hopeful that we can have a collegial and productive meeting. If you do not schedule an appointment
to meet with me, I will presume that you do not wish to meet and will proceed to initiate the formal
disciplinary process.

Thank you,

-^•^
