Presentation
The Department of Philosophy and Sociology at Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV) is one
of the most important in France due to the number of students enrolled in this field. It includes
approximately 1700 students (1000 students enrolled for the Licence).

The Licence in Philosophy and Sociology at Paris-Sorbonne University offers a general basic
education for students who consider, even if they do not want to have philosophy and
sociology as their “job”, this education as an important support or necessary additional
information for a specialized professional education.

General organization of the Licence


The Licence is organized in 6 semesters, each semester is made of 30 credits (ECTS) and 6
course units (CUs): fundamental (principal subjects), optional and complementary (Obligatory
living language, computer science, general culture).
