Pitting Corrosion Rate

Dears,
Abozaid, Maher

we have 4 methods to measure corrosion rate (coupons, online NCM, TRASAR NCM and corrator LPR)

all give similar readings (about 0.5 mpy) as general corrosion EXCEPT the corrator give 1.5 as general and 4 mpy as pitting

my question is the corrator reading is reliable compared with online NCM and coupons or not and what parameter could affect corrator reading and make it eratic?

Dear Abozaid,

Are the coupons installed on same location as the corrater LPR? If yes, does the coupons also show pitting? Corrater LPR is reliable for water systems but if pitting corrosion
is evident it can damage the sensing elements of the probe and cause erratic corrosion rate readings.

You might consider checking the corrater probe to see if it has any debris hung up on it. Also, have you considered replacing the probe?

Dear Dickson / Steven,

Thanks for your reply,

Abozaid, Maher
Yes coupon installed in the same location of LPR, but the debris appear and hung up only in corrator LPR, but the coupon surface is very clean

My question, Is there is another method to measure pitting corrosion rate?
