Second Grade Guidelines

Mrs. Parker
ATTENDANCE: Children must attend school daily to ensure they learn the
academic and social concepts and skills they will need this year. If your child is
absent due to illness, please notify the office before school begins (if possible).
Please notify me if your child will be absent for an extended period of time or has a
prearranged absence (example: doctor’s appointment).
--The National Anthem will play at exactly 8:30 a.m. each morning. While the
National Anthem is playing, each student will stand at attention with his/her right
hand over his/her heart and look directly at the flag. There should be no leaning on
desks or continuing to eat. Once the National Anthem has ended, each student will
say the Pledge of Allegiance.
--Any student arriving after 8:30 a.m. should report to the office for a tardy slip in
order to be admitted to class. The teacher will mark the student tardy on the
appropriate documents. These students will not receive breakfast unless there is
an extra breakfast left over and/or has not been returned to the cafeteria.

USE OF RESTROOM DURING CLASSTIME: Students will have four restroom breaks
during our school day. Students are encouraged to try to use the restroom at
each of these breaks. Only under extreme circumstances will a student be allowed
to go to the restroom during instruction time.
--Students will enter the restroom three at a time and will be monitored by the
bathroom monitor. Students should wash their hands in the restroom using one
pump of soap and one paper towel.
--Students will visit the water fountain only during restroom break time and
immediately following P.E.
BIRTHDAY’S: A special snack is always welcome! Please let me know a day or two
in advance or you may drop it off first thing in the morning so I can best decide
when to serve it. You are also welcome to stay and celebrate with us as long as I
know ahead of time so I can arrange our schedule.
BEHAVIOR: My expectation is that all students follow the Arlington Discipline
policy signed by parents and their child during the first week of school. Please take
time to make yourself and your child familiar with the policy and its consequences.
My classroom will emphasize a positive behavior plan that will allow your child to
achieve the best possible education where he/she feels safe and is able to
experience academic success.

My discipline policy is based on an understanding of mutual respect. If there are

individual difficulties, I will work closely with the parents and students to ensure
that the learning environment continues to be a positive place for everyone.

Thursday. It should be returned the next day. On occasion, if homework is not
completed on assigned day, I will allow it to be turned in the following day.
