 païca = composed of the five material elements (earth, water, fire, air, and ether)
 atéta = that which is past or beyond
 Is Lord Çiva the topmost recipient of the Lord’s greatest
mercy? [Texts 1-86]
Lesson 4: Närada glorifies Lord Çiva [Texts 1-34]
Lesson 5: Lord Siva, while refuting Närada’s praise, suggests the
inhabitants of Vaikuëöha as the highest recipients of the Supreme
Lord’s mercy, but then he makes a strong case in favor of Prahläda over
Pärvati’s preference for Lakñmidevé [Texts 35-86]

 Närada praises Lord Çiva Lord Çiva refutes Närada’s praise

Knows the confidential mysteries of ds unto Krsna, who Now covering Närada’s mouth with his both
Himself glorifies Çiva, who is head of one of the four hands, feels greatly embaaraassed to be reminded
Vaiñëava-sampradäyas of his audacity to benedict Krsna

Krsna & His devotees takes boons from him Krsna’s pastimes are beyond our comprehension

Although Çiva may come across being an offender, Krsna He is the root of all pride and the deity of false
does not take it that way b’coz he preaches the glories of ds ego—considered himself the Lord of the
directly or indirectly universe, the giver of knowledge, bestows
liberation, and giver of ds to Krsna

Bestows benedictions to the demons, but always with some If he had even a drop of Krsna’s mercy, why did
loopholes [exs: Baëäsura, Gargya, Jayadratha, Sudakñiëa]; Krsna fight with him? Why did the Lord worship

 Närada praises Lord Çiva
[Texts 1-15; 19-34]
Although Çiva asked to be greater than Krsna, he acted
for the Lord’s pleasure, who had declared that His
servants are greater than Him  thereby, cleverly
established himself to be Krsna’s servant
Lord Viñëu empowered Çiva & Durgä to grant
liberation on His behalf
By his mercy, Pracetäs became great devotees of Krsna
Durgä is Krsna’s sister and always gets His mercy
Çiva’s protest: Why did the Lord worship him, if he is His
servant? Why did He ask me to turn people away from
Him—Mäyäväda philosophy

Lord Çiva suggests Vaikuëöhaväsés
[Texts 42-63]
Pure devotees; renounces material things as worthless;
no pride; sat-cit-änanda bodies, powers and opulences;
satisfied to simply worthip the Lord; travel freely to
preach and make devotees
Cause advanced devotees to take birth in saintly
families, protect devotees (ex Ajämila)
Can always see the Lord in person; Incomparable
Lord’s compassion
Assume all types of forms to serve the Lord, even that
of animals and birds
Why did He ask him to concoct his own version of scripture?
His & Durgdä’s giving liberation despised by the Vaiñëavas

 Lord Çiva suggests Vaikuëöhaväsés Çiva directs Närada to Prahläda in
[Texts 42-63] Sutalaloka [Texts 70-86]
Nothing other than ds rendered enthusiastically; cannot Närada doesn’t need to go to Vaikuëöha as Krsna is
fully describe their glories already in Dvärakä, where Rukmiëé is Lakñmi

Even when pure devotees have material bodies they Prahläda is a greater recipient of the Lord’s mercy
remain worshipable for Lord than Brahmä & Çiva himself—a great secret
Vaikuëöhaväsés have personal association of the Lord: Explains how the Lord is totally attached to His
Fully-surrendered, abandon all their wealth, families and devotees, even beyond Himself—quotes 9.4.63-66
lives for the Lord; despite 3 debts, they’re not fearful;
greedy for ds
They are as dear to Çiva as the Lord to him—his greatest Among the devotees, Prahläda is the best as per the
ambition to have their association Lord Himself, much more inclined to him than
even Lakñmi
Wherever they are found is Vaikuëöha, even in this world Directs to Prahläda in Sutalaloka, but reminds
despite having material bodies. However, since they have Närada that he shouldn’t bow down to Prahläda, as
personal company of the Lord, they prefer to live in he doesn’t tolerate that type of honor

 Pärvati suggests Lakñmi as the topmost of the
Vaikuëöhaväsés, because [Texts 64-69]
She is the ruling goddess of Vaikuëöha
By her grace alone, all the rulers of the planets get
their powers, knowledge, detachment, and devotion
Ignoring devotees like Närada, she performed severe
penance to worship her Lord, even though He was
different
She is the most perfect chaste wife and stays forever
with Him in all His incarnations
