14th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Parishioners,
A central part of the message from
today’s scripture reading is THE SENDING
OUT THE SEVENTY TWO DISCIPLES. It is our
story! We are to bring the Good News to
others. This is what the words of farewell at
the end of Mass are about. “Go in peace, and
proclaim the Gospel of the Lord”; or
whatever words may be used.
So let us be clear that as we listen to
the scriptures, the Word of God is addressed
directly to us. This must not scare us.
Instead it should excite us; we are not to be
silent about our faith; we are to let our
action and attitudes do the talking! We are
to be bearers of Good News, but we are not
working alone. The first thing we need to do
is to make the message our own. It is not as
if we need all the answers. The answers are
in Jesus, our saviour whose message of
peace, love, forgiveness be bring.
In our time, Jesus wants to enter the
lives of others, in homes, streets and towns,
just as in today’s gospel. He send the 72 to
tell people of his coming. There was and
still is that sense of URGENCY. “Start off
now – the harvest … the task is great, I need
your help to bring my message to others …
“Salute no one on the road …” Get on with
the task no hanging about with idle gossip!!
Jesus also warns us, its not going to be
easy. “I sending out like lambs among
among wolves”! In other words, there will
be challenges, people who will try to disrupt
or silence you; ridicule you and try to
humiliate you … be ready! Get on with the
task in good spirit; with joy and confidence –
its not your Word you are bring but my
Word – this is what Jesus is saying to us.
You will notice that the disciple
bringing the word of God should be
welcomed with hospitality. In welcoming
the messenger, one is welcoming the Word
made flesh, Jesus himself.
Note the first reading today from
Isaiah was written after the return of the
Jewish people from exile in Babylon. As a
mother protects and nourishes her infant, so
God too cares for his people.
Again St Paul boasts of his suffering
and is glad to carry the cross of Christ in his
ministry.
There is nobody more surprised at
their success than the disciples. They are
almost saying: “We couldn’t believe it that
even the devils submitted to us when we
used the name of Jesus”!
The power of God can be at work in us
as we carry his message. How re-assusring
that our names can be sritten in heaven for
all eternity because we tried to carry the
Good News to others. We praise the Lord
for giving us such a wonderful taks and a
reward to go with it.
We welcome Fr Marcel midweek who
will be arriving from his studies in Rome.
He hope his second summer with us will be
enjoyable.

who would like to explore their faith more.

PARISH OUTREACH
SANDWICH MAKING (PREPARATION):
In the hall on, Fri. 12h July after Mass.
Volunteers are urgently needed on
Saturday mornings at 7:30am to help with
preparing the sandwiches, soups, tea and
coffee.

BUDDING ACTORS WANTED
Wintershall Education are looking for
budding actors to take the story of Jesus into
local schools as part of a free assembly
program. This is a unique opportunity for
parishioners to experience something
extraordinary for their own faith and be
part of sharing this with others whilst
supporting schools in understanding more
about Jesus. Training and costumes are
provided. To find out more, come to our
information morning on 9th July 11am-
1pm in the Hinsley Room, Morpeth Terrace
behind Westminster Cathedral in London.

Youth Summit for Year 9 / 10 / 11 !
'Come, Magnify the Lord with
me! Together let us praise His
Holy Name'
St Francis de Sales parish in
Tottenham are hosting a great youth event,
particularly for all those in our
local area who recently received the Holy
Sacrament of Confirmation.
'Youth Summit' is an amazing evening of
faith, food and celebration, with pizzas and
tasty snacks; team games; praise-and-
worship music; a mystery guest-speaker;
concluding with Eucharistic Adoration.
The evening runs from 7pm - 9pm in in
St Francis de Sales Church, Tottenham,
on Friday 12th July.
If you are in Years 9, 10 or 11 and would
like to come to this fantastic event, please
collect a consent form from Fr Jonathan.
We shall leave from St Paul's Church at
6.30pm and returning at 9.30pm.
**All young people must be collected by an
adult from St Paul's. **You need your bus
travel cards, as we are travelling by
bus!**
Please encourage the faithful parishioners
to keep this event in their prayers.

The Passage annual Garden Party in the
beautiful and historic College Garden,
Westminster Abbey on
Friday 19th July, 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
