3rd Grade, Track 1 Homework Policy

Nightly Agendas:
 All students have a daily agenda in which they will write down homework assignments
and special events, as well as receive comments about behavior / work habits if needed.
 Agendas are required in class every day and should be signed each night by a parent.
 Homework worksheets will come home daily in the yellow homework folder and should be
returned to class the following day, unless otherwise noted.

Nightly homework will consist of:

Reading: Students should read nightly to help build stamina. Some reading homework will
include paper and pencil questions, or vocabulary charts, or reflection questions, while other
assignments are completed online using EPIC!, Big Universe, or Readworks passages and
questions.
3rd grade students should be able to……
 Read at least 20 to 30 solid minutes, uninterrupted for 1st and 2nd qtr each night
 Read up to 30 to 40 solid minutes, uninterrupted for 3rd and 4th qtr each night

Spelling: Spelling skills are embedded in our Literacy program. There is NOT a formal list of
words for spelling and there is NOT a weekly spelling test.

Math: Each night, students will have daily assignments that cover the day’s objectives or
previous objectives. Some math homework will be paper and pencil, while other assignments
might be completed online using Freckle, Moby Max, or another online site. Please return all
work the day after assigned. Homework will be checked or reviewed the next day in class. Math
study guides will be provided as needed depending on topics of study. While studying
multiplication, students will keep track of their practice on a math log and they are expected to
practice every single night.

Homework could sometimes consist of:

Fluency or Comprehension: Students that show a need for reading / fluency / comprehension practice will be
given resources nightly or weekly to practice.

Science: Study guides provided for tests as needed per quarter.

Social Studies: Study guides provided for tests as needed per quarter.

Consequences:
 Students that complete all homework for the week, turn it in on time, and have high
quality work will receive a score of 3 for homework under Work Habits. Their test scores
will reflect their hard work and practice!

 For students that fail to complete homework, their tests will reflect their lack of practice
and they will receive a score of 2 for homework under Work Habits. Poor quality work will
be redone or rewritten. All work should be in the student’s handwriting, unless otherwise noted in
their IEP / 504 plan.
