Lesson Idea Name: Review of mathematical concepts

Content Area: Math
Grade Level(s): First
Content Standard Addressed:
MGSE1.OA.6 Add and subtract within 20
MGSE1.OA.2 Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or
equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to
represent the problem.
MGSE1.OA.6 Add and subtract within 20.

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☒ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students will be given a choice on the device they play Kahoot! on. I will make sure to provide touch screens
as an option for students who have difficulties using a mouse. I will also read the questions to help alleviate
difficulties with reading. Students will be given manipulates to use to solve the math problems as well as
paper.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
This lesson is a review of previously learned math standards to give the students practice and to allow me to
see if students are still struggling with a math standard. I would be able to group students who are struggling
and work on standards that need improvement in a small group activity.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Student Response and Assessment Tools
I will read the questions to students. Students will solve the math problems and answer the problems on
Kahoot!

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
I will display correct answers and answer any questions the students may have as well as model any
problems.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After Kahoot! I will go back over the problems and see what content needs to be retaught.

How will the data be used?

I would use the data collected from the activity to see what students are needing help with. If I see that the
majority of the class is missing a particular standard I would reteach that standard. If I see that a few students
are struggling I would conduct a small group activity with the students who missed a standard.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My personal goal is see how my teaching strategies are working or if I need to change the way I am teaching
standards.
Reflective Practice:
To further extend the lesson I would have students create a Kahoot! so they can quiz their friends. By having
students create the quiz this has them thinking about the content on a different level and they have voice and
choice over which content they are using to create the Kahoot!
