Pattern notes:
Twilight & Mist Shawl is a lightweight, lofty and soft accessory in a classic rectangular
shape. The pattern features two simple reversible eyelet and lace stitch patterns that
create an equally beautiful fabric on both sides of the shawl.
It is knit sideways, allowing you to change colours of the yarn as you progress, making
it a perfect pattern for a gradient yarn to show it off to its best advantage. The cast-on
and bind-off edges of this shawl can be blocked either straight or in a pointy pattern,
giving your shawl the new look after every wash and blocking.
This shawl can be knit either in a single strand of fingering or sock weight yarn, or in
two strands of different lace weight yarn held together. Heavier weight yarns can also be
used with this design, but you need to adjust the number of cast-on stitches, and
number of row pattern repeats to accommodate for a different gauge.
The gauge is not very crucial, however it is highly recommended to knit a swatch with
both stitch patterns used in this design and block it to see if you like the look of the
fabric made with your yarn and needles. The lace pattern looks attractive both blocked
and unblocked. The blocking with blocking wires and pins opens up the lace pattern,
creating an airy meshy fabric, and dramatically changing the finished look and
measurements, and thus it is highly recommended.

Notes:
● The cast-on in this design is for the length of the shawl. If the length of the shawl is desired
to be different from the given in the pattern, or it has to be adjusted to different gauge, there
is a formula for the total number of cast-on stitches: it should be multiple of 4 sts plus 2
sts for symmetry, plus 8 sts for garter stitch borders (4 sts at each end of the
shawl).
● If you opt for the mohair strand colour to be changed every 8 rows of the pattern
repeat in Garter Eyelet Stitch pattern section, do not break the non-working yarn,
but carry it along the edge, twisting it with the working yarn. This way there will be
fewer tails to weave in.
● Regular bind-off method may create the edge tighter than the cast-on edge. To
avoid this bind off with a Stretchy Bind-off method.
● Since the pattern is reversible, there is no RS or WS.
Directions
Using two strand of yarn held together, one of which mohair yarn in colour A, and using long
tail cast-on method, CO 238 sts.
First Row: k4, pm, knit to last 4 sts, pm, k4.

Row 1: k1, [k1, yo, k1] into the same stitch, k2, sm, knit to marker, sm, k4.
Row 2: k1, [k1, yo, k1] into the same stitch, k2, sm, knit to marker, sm, k6.

Rep these 8 Rows 2 more times. Remember to switch to colour B of mohair yarn strand for
the next 8 rows of the pattern, and back to colour A for the last repeat, i.e., finishing with
colour A. For a wider shawl, repeat the last 16 rows one more time.
Change to colour B and work Zig-zag Eyelet Rib pattern for a total of 5 pattern repeats.
Change to colour A and work again in Garter Eyelet Stitch pattern for a total of 3 pattern
repeats, changing the mohair strand colour every pattern repeat, finishing with colour A.
Continue with colour A and work the last section of a shawl in Zig-zag Eyelet Rib pattern
for a total of 6 pattern repeats.
BO with stretchy bind-off method (see Abbreviations and techniques), otherwise your
bind-off edge will be tighter than the cast-on edge.
