Topic: Possible Solution for Rohingyan Refugees

Country: Vietnam
Security and human rights are two things that related to each other. Human rights is one of
the most important thing that we have to stand for nowadays. Everyone has the right to life, liberty,
speech, privacy, the right to social security, health, and education. Not only people that belong to
a state, but refugees also have to have that rights. Today, refugees feel unsafe because many of
them got violence abused by several people, lost their family, lost their rights on humanity.
Everyone need to feel safe and secure. Many states fear that refugees will threatened their state’s
security, that is why many states also banned refugees to enter their sovereignty.

Vietnam feels that refugees also have right to feel safe and secure because Vietnam know
how it feels like when someone lost their home, do not have enough supply for food, having life
crisis, and doesn’t belong to any states. Vietnam has been through this phase after Vietnam war
happened. It is really necessary for Vietnam to help people to get their rights again.

Crimes against the refugees from rohingnya have arrived at the point where we cannot
tolerate anymore. The Delegation of Vietnam urges all member countries to always re-apply the
values, goals and principles of the formation of ASEAN. One of the goals of ASEAN is to maintain
and enhance peace, security and stability and enhance values oriented to peace in the region.1
Therefore, it is not impossible for us to achieve peace if every country realizes the importance of
humanity. The refugees from rohingnya are a form of crime against humanity that needs to be
resolved immediately.

But the Vietnam government realized that this rohingnya crisis was an internal problem
in the Myanmar country where the Vietnam government chose not to interfere in this crisis.
However, the Delegation of Vietnam provided support so that the Rohingnya crisis was
immediately resolved and urged a permanent solution to this problem, and we expect an effective
peaceful solution. Because without us realizing this rohingnya crisis has become an ASEAN

regional crisis which is feared to affect other countries and it can threaten region’s peace and
stability.

Vietnam has contributed a contribution of US $ 50.000 to support operations carried out

by WFP (World Food Program) at Cox's Bazar home to nearly one million Rohingya Muslim
refugees from Myanmar.2 Cox "s Bazaar is a strip of land between Myanmar to the east and the
Bay of Bengal to the West, sheltered Rohingya refugees over the decades of ethnic clashes in
Myanmar. There are more than 750,000 refugees who fled to this area to avoid oppression in
Rakhine. Vietnam has proven its concern as an ASEAN member who has criticized the Myanmar
Rohingya case in the region Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang also has given the country supports
Bangladesh for a permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis. 3 Vietnam is trying to provide a
collective solution by offering economic assistance for the cost and logistics of Rohingya refugees.
Vietnam also has superior commodities in agriculture and plantations such as rice, cassava and
others that will be allocated to help Rohingya refugees. But because of domestic problem, the
Vietnam governance has not been able to accommodate the refugees. Considering that Vietnam is
relatively small compared to other ASEAN countries and also its location is quite far from
myanmar.
