Celgrow
  soil amendment. Pastures and hay fields are good options.
Mercer Celgar will cover the costs of a qualified professional per-
forming soil sampling, obtaining government authorization and
delivery costs of Celgrow soil amendment based on access with a
large truck/pup combination. Acreage should be able to accom-
modate at least 6 truck/pup loads. The two major components of
Celgrow are individual wood fibres lost from the pulping process
and surplus bacteria from the wastewater biological treatment
facility. Wood fibres enhance soil moisture retention and bacteria
are a good source of soil nutrients. The landowner is responsible
for spreading and incorporating Celgrow into their soil.

BC Green MLA visits the Kootenays
Sonia Furstenau, BC Green MLA for Cowichan Val-
ley and the party’s deputy leader, will be in the Kootenay
communities July 9 to 11.
Last Fall, Sonia inspired residents of East Shore, Kaslo
and Nelson with her journey into politics, her challenges
as a BC Green MLA and the Caucus’ successes in the
legislature. At this year’s events, Sonia will speak about
watershed protection, food security, climate action and
community empowerment to help meet the hurdles and
opportunities in the Kootenays and BC.
Sonia will speak at community forums in Creston on
Tuesday, July 9 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the Trinity United
Church. She will be in Kaslo on Wednesday, July 10 from
7 pm to 8:30 pm at the Kaslo Legion Hall, and in Nelson
on Thursday, July 11, 7 pm to 9 pm at a Climate Action
Barbecue at Lakeside Park which will include food for sale
and open mic entertainment.

This beautiful 8-year-old spayed black and white tuxedo belle has
white socks and spellbinding green eyes. Very friendly with people,
she likes getting pets but not from over her head. Or brush her as
much as you like – she loves the attention. At her previous home, she
was an indoor-outdoor cat known throughout the neighbourhood.
She’s used to encountering other cats and is mostly tolerant of them,
but she stands her ground uncompromisingly. She probably prefers
a home all to herself and would really love to move on to her new
furrever home. Come meet Bella and be charmed.

Water
Water: the most sustainable element on the planet until
it’s not. Allowing industries into the watersheds has cre-
ated a landslide of torrential proportions, levelling homes,
destroying innocent lives, displacing wildlife and causing
genocide. We as human beings must wake to the notion
that we only have so long at this rate of destruction. We
must protect the water. We can create green sustainable
energy. We can take back the power of the Columbia and
choose free power. We can change our wasteful ways. We
can live with ourselves in a more simple way.
Let not colour nor creed come between us. This is about
all of us and our inhabitants. The species at risk can only
show us where we stand in our mortality. The bees need us
as much as we need them. Let’s work together for a more
compassionate empathetic society. All the doors to Parlia-
ment are open to us right now.
Join me in making the changes we need to correct what
has gone wrong. We must save our waters first for she is
our mother, our umbrella of life. I have faith that we stand
as one, that we as women beat the drum for the mother,
that she be healed by our hand. Protect our children
we must do. Gentlemen extend your arm – protect our
mother from poison and treacherous harm.

munications team seven days a week. For calls during reg-
ular business hours we will work hard to respond within
an hour. For calls after hours, we will allow the call to go to
voicemail, check the message and respond if it is an urgent
situation. Our response time on weekends or after hours
