Reservoir Development Optimization

Fula-x , Block 6-Sudan, a Case Study

Mohammed Oleish , Shadow Section Head of Reservoir Engineering, Petro Energy E&P

1. Abstract
Fula-x is a heavy oil producer well located in Fula Main Filed. It was put on production from Bentiu which is a strong bottom water drive reservoir on July 9th , 2009. Lifting
method is PCP. Crude oil viscosity is 350cp and API is 19

1st workover operation was carried out due to high water cut on February 3rd ,2013 to squeeze 14 m (out of 20 m) from of top Bentiu-1a reservoir by cement. Accordingly
water cut decreased from 94% to 13%.
After 8 months water cut raised up again and reached the economic limit 98% and oil rate declined from 350 STB/d to 6 STB/d. Cumulative oil production up to October 18th,
2013 is 0.113 MMSTB. It is clear that no more oil potential can be developed and water breakthrough has been occurred in Bentiu reservoir.
In this case, optimization succeed to develop new reservoir in this field and a clear development strategy for next period is considered according to this case.

2. Development Optimization Proposal 4. Development Optimization Performance

After optimization has been finished production was resumed by PCP.

not been developed.

Fula FFR recommended to

develop Aradeiba reservoir by
drilling 4 oil producers and 2
water injectors. However,
instead of drilling recommended
wells from first day, existing
Bentiu oil producers can be
converted to produce from
Aradeiba as pilot test to analyze

and simulation understanding. Accordingly, future production performance can 5. Economical Analysis
indicates the profitability of either water injection implementation or additional

3. Simulation Result

From reservoir simulation optimization, favorable result is achieved.

estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) can reach 0.385 MMSTB with water
cut<20%. Daily oil production is sustained within (100-150) STB up to 2019.
6. Conclusion

Until reach point of pressure which requires start implementation of water injection,
such optimization is highly profitable ! it is expected to start reservoir pressure
decline from the first half of 2015.
Based on simulation result, water injection should start on January 2015 and
routine
pressure
mentoring is
to that required up
date.
