arranged in His books makes our lives not only blooming alive but has meaning and
meaning for the environment around us. Being a human being who is religious in
particular Muslims, all the rules and how our life processes must go have been
explained by God in a book, the Qur'an. As a Muslim it is an obligation to read and
learn the nature of the Qur'an itself. By understanding what the nature of the Qur'an is
as a human being we can not only read the contents of the Qur'an but more than that
we understand the nature of the Qur'an itself.

Studying the Qur'an is not only about its nature but, as a devout Muslim, we
must know the contents of the Qur'an itself which Allah sends down to mankind. The
importance of understanding the nature and subject matter of the Qur'an for us human
beings, especially Muslims, because not many people who are Muslims understand
and understand the nature and subject matter of the Qur'an. Most people who are
Muslim only know that the Qur'an is the holy book of Islam. This is the background
for the author to write a paper entitled, "The Nature of the Qur'an and the Subjects
of the Qur'an ".

A. Al-Qur'an
1. The nature of the Qur'an
This holy book for Muslims is the word (words) of Allah SWT revealed to
the Prophet Muhammad through the Angel Gabriel with pronunciation and its
meaning (Surat ash Shuraa [26]: 192-195). The Qur'an as the book of Allah
occupies the position of the first and foremost source of all Islamic teachings and
serves as a guide or guideline for humanity to achieve happiness in life in the
world and the hereafter. The word Qur'an comes from the verb qara'a which
means to read and the form of masdar (basic word) is the Quran which means
reading. The Koran with the meaning of reading is stated by Allah in several
verses, among others in the surah-surah al-Qiyamah verses 16-18, al Baqarah
verse 185, al Hijr verse 87, Thahaa verse 2 and many more.
The Koran has several names, including the Book of Allah, al-Furqan
which means the difference between the right and the ill (QS al Furqan [25]: 1),
az-Zikir which means warning (QS al Hijr [15]: 9) and at-Tanzil which means
inherited (Surat ash-Shuraa [26]: 192) and others. The scholars differed on the
nature of the Koran. Imam al-Ghazali in the book al-Mustasfamin 'Ilm al-Usul (a
book that discusses the issue of fiqh proposal), explains that the essence of the
Qur'an is kalam which stands on the Substance of Allah SWT (not
beginning). According to Mutakalimin (Islamic theologian), the nature of the
Qur'an is the meaning that stands in the Substance of Allah SWT. As for the
Muktazilah class, the essence of the Qur'an is the letters and sounds created by
Allah, which after being tangible and disappeared and disappeared. With this
view, the Muktzilah view the Qur'an as the creation of Allah SWT. [1]
The Muktalim stipulates that the essence of the Qur'an is: The meaning
that stands for the essence of Allah. Ulama - Mu'tazilah scholars argue, that the
nature of Al - Qu'an is the letters and voices that are made by Allah, which after
being tangible then disappears and disappears. The word Al-Ghazaly, "The
essence of the Qur'an, is the kalam which stands on the essence of Allah, namely:

a character that is qadim between His attributes. And the greeting is the lafad
musytarak, which is used for lafad which refers to meaning, as used for the
meaning designated by the lafad. [2]
2. Understanding the Qur'an
The word Al-Qur'an according to language has various meanings, one of
which is reading or something that must be read, studied. [3] As for the term the
scholars differ in giving a definition of the Qur'an. There are those who say that
the Qur'an is the miracle of Allah sent down to the Prophet Muhammad through
the intermediary of Jibril with pronunciation and its meaning from Allah SWT,
which is mutukilkan; reading it is worship; starting with surah al-Fatihah and
ending with surah an-Nas. [4]
Some say that the Qur'an is the kalamullah which was revealed to the
Prophet Muhammad through the Angel Gabriel as a miracle and serves as a
guidance (guidance).

3. Function of the Qur'an

Al-Qur'an al-karim introduces himself with various traits and traits, he is
the book of Allah which is always preserved. The Qur'an has many functions
including:
a. Being proof of the truth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW the proof of the
truth was expressed in a gradual challenge.
1) Challenging anyone who doubts it to compile a kind of Al-Qur'an as a
whole.
2) Challenging them to compile ten letters like the Qur'an.
3) Challenging them to arrange just one letter like the Qur'an.
4) Challenge them to arrange something like or more or less the same as a
surah from the Qur'an.
b. Become a guide for all humanity. The instructions in question are religious
instructions or commonly referred to as Shari'a.
c. As a miracle of the Prophet Muhammad to prove prophethood and
apostolate yes and the Qur'an is a creation of Allah not the creation of the
prophet. This is supported by the word of Allah SWT in Surat Al-Isra 'verse 88:
Meaning : "Say, actually if humans and jinn gather to create something
similar to qur'an, they will not be able to make it even though some of
them help some others".
d. As hidayat. The Qur'an was revealed by Allah to the prophet Muhammad
not only to be read but to be understood later to be practiced and used as a
source of hidayat and guidance for humans to achieve happiness in the world
and in the hereafter. For this reason, we are encouraged to maintain and

maintain it. This is according to the word of Allah SWT in the letter Fatir verse
29:
Meaning: "Indeed, those who always read the Qur'an and establish
prayers and spend part of the rezeqi that we give to them secretly and
openly, they are the ones who expect the (profit) of the trade that will
not lose".

From this it can be understood that the Qur'an is a source that must be
made a legal basis or guidance in the life and life of mankind. [5]

B. The contents of the Qur'an

1. Pok ok - the content of the Qur'an
The following are the main points of the Qur'an:
a. Aqeedah
In terminology (the term) aqeedah according to Hasan al - Banna
aqidah are some cases that must be believed to be true by the heart, bringing
peace to the soul into a belief that does not fight at all with fanfare.
The scope of the faith discussion includes the following :
1) Ilahiyat is everything related to Allah SWT such as the form of Allah,
names, attributes and actions . Because Allah does not appear
(supernatural) by humans so to simply get a picture or understanding given
the attributes of Allah SWT in the Qur'an.
2) Nubuwat, namely things related to prophets and apostles, including
discussions about the books of God, miracles.
3) Rubanniyat is a discussion related to the nature of metaphysics (which is
supernatural), such as about the angel Gabriel, the devil, shaitan.
4) Sam'syiyat is a discussion of everything that can be known through as-
sama '(hearing based on the naqli argument, namely the Qur'an and Al-
sunnah al-shahihah). Such as the discussion of heaven and hell, the nature
of barzakh or the grave, signs of the end.
b. Sharia
In the context of the content distribution of the Al-Qur'an, what is
meant by Shari'ah is sharia in the narrow sense or fiqh, namely matters
relating to the syara 'laws' which govern human behavior including worship,
mu'amalah, and uqubah (criminal). Allah says which means:

" He has told you about the religion He has given to Noah and what
We have revealed to you and what We have testified to Abraham,
Moses and Jesus, namely: Establish religion and do not divide about
it. It is very difficult for the polytheists who you call them to. God

attracts the religion of the person He wants and gives instructions to

(the religion) of those who return (to Him ) " . Qs. Al - Syura: 13.

c. Morals
Morals come from mental conditions that have been deeply embedded
in the soul of a person who gives birth to good behavior, because he has
accustomed him, so that when he will do this, he does not need to think about
it, as if the action has become reflexive.
d. History (Acts of the Apostles)
The purpose of the story of Al-Qur'an is to give an understanding of
something that actually happened and to be used as a worship (lesson) to
strengthen the faith and guide towards good and righteous deeds. Allah says
which means:
"In fact , the story - their story is there is teaching for people who have
reason. The Qur'an is not a made-up story, but justifies (the books)
that were before and explains everything, and as a guide and mercy to
the believers. Qs. Yusuf 111.
e. Science and technology
The Qur'an contains information about the problem of science, at least
there are signs of science. There are so many scientific truths presented by the
Qur'an, but the purpose of the presentation of these verses is to show the
greatness of God and His Oneness, and encourage people to conduct
observations and research to further strengthen faith and trust in Him. For
example, in asbabun nuzul, it was explained that one day someone came to the
apostle who asked: "why is the moon of small flushing like thread, then it
enlarges to become a full moon?" Then your apostle returns the question
to God who says what it means:
" They ask you about the crescent moon. Say: "the crescent is a sign of
time for men and (for worship) the Hajj. And not the virtue of entering
homes from behind him. But that virtue is the virtue of those who
fear. And enter the houses from the door, and fear Allah that you may
be lucky. " (Surat al-Baqarah: 189).

f. Philosophy
Muhammad Yusuf Musa said that, the basic character of the Qur'an is
inviting people to philosophize. If Al - Qur'an is only a book that talks
about tasyri '(legislation) and morals, surely he would not give birth to
upheaval in philosophical thought. Evidence that the Qur'an invites to
philosophize, among others, that he also invites debate with

the prevailing Arab society at that time already had traditions, thoughts and
culture. And Al-Qur'an shows what mistakes they have believed so far,
especially about their divine concept. In the Qur'an there are verses that speak
of philosophical issues including who really is the creator of heaven and
earth. This is seen in some of God's words:
" And if you ask them," who created the heavens and the earth? "Of
course they will answer Allah . Say praise to Allah, but most of them
do not know . " Qs. Luqman: 25. [6]
