FNSA DIAMOND CHAPTER CIRCLE AWARD

All chapter awards are dependent on completion of the “FNSA Diamond Chapter Circle”
application. Specific awards will be given for the “Best” Social Media page, Newsletter,
Breakthrough to Nursing projects, Membership Increases, Legislative Activity, and
Community Health Involvement. Even if your chapter is unable to complete all sections of
the Diamond Chapter Circle award, it is important to complete the sections pertaining to the
award your chapter wishes to apply for.

There is just one application for all awards unless otherwise specified. The Diamond
Chapter Circle Award Application is due by 7 PM the first day of Convention. You
may turn your application into any board member you see. Each submission will
receive a receipt for their submission. The application is found online on the “Resources”
tab under “Awards”. All award winners, unless otherwise noted, will be announced at the
closing ceremony on the last day of convention. An award may be withheld if a winner is
not identified.

Purpose: This award recognizes our top high-achieving chapters who display commitment
for FNSA’s mission and goals through their activity in the previous year.

Eligibility: For your chapter to be considered, you must submit a complete application that
highlights how your chapter executes each category’s aims. Please note that all categories do
not need to be complete to be considered for the Chapter Circle, but a more complete and
thorough application has a greater chance of receiving the award. The only required
component is Category I: Official Constituency Status (note that if your chapter has not
submitted bylaws, you have an opportunity to still qualify IF you contact the FNSA 1st
VP, Anthony Goldberg, at FNSA1stVP@gmail.com and begin the process of
completing and submitting your bylaws online by the first day of convention, October
24th, 2019).
Scoring: Applications are scored by the FNSA Executive Board during convention.
Chapters receive points in each category by meeting the specified requirements.
Applications are reviewed and signed off by state board members for accuracy, completeness,
and integrity. Board members reviewing awards are not permitted to grade their own
respective schools during this process. More points are awarded for providing specific details
and supporting evidence – additional documents can be attached to the back of the
application if they are clearly labeled with their corresponding category and number. If your
chapter has questions about meeting criteria, please contact Abbygail Lapinski at
FNSAPRESIDENT@gmail.com or Caitlin Cox at FNSA2NDVP@gmail.com. Chapters
with the most points total will be recognized as Diamond Circle Chapters for the year and
will receive a certificate of recognition.

The categories being scored are as follows:

(I) Official Constituency Status

(II) Faculty Support of Professional Development

(III) Membership

(IV) Community Health Participation

(V) Legislative Advocacy & Political Action

(VI) Breakthrough to Nursing

(VII) Communications

Tips for Creating the Diamond Chapter Circle Application

The Diamond Chapter Circle Application is one that can require a significant amount of time
to compile to create a compelling and substantial submission for consideration. While the
point distribution for the Diamond Chapter are the true determinant of which chapter receives
the award, there are methods of streamlining information and creative ways of presenting the
necessary content to ensure maximum amount of points are awards towards your final total.
Below are suggestions recommended from previous and current board members who have
had experience in creating and grading Diamond Chapter submissions:

1. Start your Diamond Chapter application at the beginning of the

year / term! Since the application is a culmination of a year’s worth of content, it is

beneficial to begin adding information to the award early to ensure that everything is included
and benefits the members who are creating the submission, so they are not overwhelmed by
the task.

2. Utilize organizational tools to make finding content easier for

judging! This can be applied to those utilizing an electronic or physical copy of their
application. For a physical copy, including an index with page numbers or using index tabs
facilitate finding pertinent information needed for awarding points. For those creating an
electronic copy, utilize an index (see below) that can link to the section and make sure that
all information is included in ONE document!

3. Include photographs to illustrate and expand the information

you are discussing in your submission! Photographs with captions can
demonstrate to the grader evidence that your events occurred and also add an element of
personality to the submission!
4. Ask consultants / faculty for guidance in creating the
application! Your chapter’s consultants and/or faculty advisors may have experience
with FNSA and are be able to assist in the creation of your submission. If there are any
additional questions, any FNSA member is also able to reach out to FNSA board members
for guidance as well!

So you may be asking well? How do I show what I am doing? Here are some ideas:

 Pictures
 Short 1-2 paragraph essays
 Letters from faculty/consultants
 Letters from the dean
 Letters from pre-nursing students or new
nursing students. Any other creative
ideas!

Template for Creating Diamond Chapter Application

As mentioned previously, it is imperative that information is readily available in your

submission to ensure that points are awarded to your application. Graders must go through
your entire submission for information to award points so listed content in an organized
method can facilitate grading your application. The following pages present a template that
can be utilized in creating your own submission for Diamond Chapter. It highlights the
needed information for point distribution and includes ideas and suggestions for what you
can include in your submission. Utilizing this template is not a requirement for your
submission, but it exists to guide those who are looking for ideas or have questions about
their respective application.
