Cultural Exchange Programme
1. The Argument. Context.

We will do a small research about Interculturalism and tolerance to cultural

differences toward Europe countries. Exchange programmes and their effects.
How to live in an United Europe, without losing his own culture? How to
appreciate other’s culture without giving up to your own culture?

2. Theme of the project

Interculturalism and tolerance to cultural differences.

3. Participants

The project addresses to:

- 20 children from two countries involved in this exchange programme,

- their parents and family and

- 2 teachers from each country.

4. Target

10 children from above 15-16 years old (8th class level-middle school, or first year
of high school) from Denmark and 10 children of the same age from another
country of the European Union. Romania??

5. Motivation

We had chosen this topic because we think that we live in a multicultural Union,
where people must tolerate the others cultural differences. Students must learn
to be tolerant from an early age and to fight racism.

6. Goals

Instigating the cultural curiosity of knowing a different country.

Developing intercultural awareness capacity.

Engaging them into social local life and solidarity.

Enrolling students into tolerance and an open-mind life.

7. Time-plan

This activity will be held during 4 weeks.

• 1 preparatory week at home when each class will discuss about the other
country, about cultural differences and tolerance.

• 1 week in the middle of the new country. Discovering a new culture and
involving in local life.

3
• 1 week showing your own country to the Romanian correspondents.
Involving them into your local life.

• 1 week at home school discussing about things that we learn and cultural
differences.

8. Actors

• 2 teachers from one country, 2 teachers from the other country who
will communicate in the preparatory week, by mail and phone in order
to prepare the common activities from the 2 weeks together.

• Partners:

- The 2 directors from the 2 schools who will give an amount for the didactic
materials.

- Each student family who will have to provide food and accommodation for the
foreigner student.

- Students from the teacher training University if needed.

9. Process

Discovering a new culture and a new life style by the help of one exchanging
week into a different country. An week trip living to a foreigner family and
involving into local social life.

Students will have common activities during the 2 weeks together in order to
discover the other’s country and culture. (local games, typical literature,
traditional food, local music and dance, lifestyle daily habits).

There will also be some common debates about tolerance and cultural
differences.

Students will come every day at school and will have common activities. The
work language is English. One day / week they will go on a trip in order to
discover the country.

Sunday will be spent in the family in order to get know better a typical Danish/
Romanian day.

The student, who receives a foreigner student in his family, will be hosted to his
correspondent’s family.

The 2 teachers will also leave to the correspondent teachers.

10. Budget

• Income amount – sponsor, family contribution, schools contribution...

• Outcome amount – transport, documents taxes, didactic materials, trips in

the 2 countries, food...

In order to have a functional project the outcome amount must be equal

or smaller than the income amount.

4
11.Evaluation – at the end of this activity each class comes back to his own home
school and talk about the exchange programme.

• An evaluation will be made for students in order to see what they had
learned, what is culture? How to deal with cultural differences? How to be
tolerant but not to give up at your own culture?

• An evaluation point will be made for the teachers too in order to see if this
kind of exchange activity helps students to be aware of the cultural
awareness capacity? Does it instigate the cultural curiosity? Does it help
for developing tolerance capacity and fight racism? What was good? What
could be better?

• A balance between income amount and outcome amount must be made at
