BACKGROUND:
3
Himself equal to God (sin of PRIDE).
●
He was expelled from heaven and cast to the
ground/earth (Ezekiel 28:17); cast down to Hell (Mt 25:41)
●
Isaiah called him a “fallen, shining star” Isaiah 14:12
●
Satan - Hebrew verb “satan” meaning to oppose, to
harass someone; Tempter, the one to make us trip and
fall, the one to turn us away from God
●
Devil is derived from the Greek “diabolos” meaning an
accuser, a slanderer
4
A. The situation in the world today:
8
●
Best Example: HOLD. We are a hot target for Satan
because of the work we do, evangelizing our
family, friends, etc.
3. (1 Pt 5:8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your
adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion,
seeking whom he may devour.
9
●
“Lion”- it is the symbol for one who is ruthless,
stealthy, powerfully aggressive, bent on defending its
turf, and destruction, often working from ambush.
Therefore, Satan is very bent on defending his
kingdom of darkness, and all those who work for
redemption of sinful becomes his enemies. And we in
HOLD, are in the line of fire as we enter into the battle.
●
Evangelism is spiritual warfare
●
Therefore we need weapons and protection
10
Our SPIRITUAL WEAPONS:
●
Our OFFENSIVE weapons
1. Commitment to Christ’s cause
➢
we lead lives of righteousness, purity and holiness
though we are not saints, righteousness is our passion
and we hate evil. (2 Cor 6:7) Ang pagiging matuwid ang
sandatang panlaban at panangga
➢
Purity of motives and desires. Serve for the glory of God,
not of self; have humility. Without Christ we are nothing.
➢
We will be ineffective if we are not righteous
11
2. Zeal “pagpupursigi”. Single-mindedness of
purpose. Perseverance “Pagsisikap at pagtitiyaga”.
(2 Cor 5:15) – Christ died so that those who live may no
longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again
for them
“I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth
of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8)
12
●
To illustrate, look at what we do in the CLP. (the word of God
has power, it transforms!) in the talk, in the discussion grp
●
Other Examples: homilies, sharings, leccio divina,
testimonies:
4. Spiritual gifts:
Faith, Knowledge, Wisdom, Prophecy, Discernment,
Tongues, Interpretation of tongues, Healing and Miracle
●
How? How to invite, how to give talk, evaluate the
participants

Our PROTECTION: The Armor of God
Defense strategy
14
Ephesians 6:13
17
2. BREASTPLATE of JUSTICE or RIGHTEOUSNESS is our
protection against evil and sinful desires (Satan’s
attacks).
●
Satan will bombard our minds with evil thoughts
We must resist these temptations.
3. SANDALS of the GOSPEL OF PEACE – Protection
against an easy and lazy life.
●
Idle mind, idle life – Devil’s playground. We should not
wallow in our comfort zones.
● 18
●
We cannot be pilgrims traveling in first class comfort.
(Mark 6:8) And he ordered the to take nothing for the journey,
except a staff: no food, no bag, no money in their belts.. If we do so
then we will not be venturesome and daring, not take risks
anymore
●
We must leave the comforts of home, go out after Satan’s
captives and have the zeal to propagate the Gospel. Jesus said,
“My sheep hear My voice, . . . and they follow Me” (John 10:27).
●
ALSO, Satan will try to place obstacles in our path, but in Jesus’
strength we can walk forward, following our Lord, obeying Him,
and advancing the gospel.
19
4. FAITH - Protection against unbelief
●
This faith is not something that comes from within
us. It is God’s gift to us. He gives each of us a
measure of faith (Romans 12:3). Then as we walk
with Him, that faith grows and develops until it
becomes a shield, protecting us and allowing us to
live a victorious life in Christ.
20
Can I do it? Have faith in God’s promises. Believe that
this is God’s work. (Heb 13:5-6) I will never forsake you or
abandon you. The Lord is my helper, I will not fear; what can man do to
me?.
●
Accdg to St. Paul: Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the
flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for
me” (Galatians 2:20)
●
And at the end of that life of faith, he declared, “I have fought the good
fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).
●
That can be your experience as well, as you use the
shield of faith to turn aside everything Satan hurls at you
21
5. HELMET OF SALVATION : We have already been redeemed by
the crucified Christ. Death and Sin have been conquered by his
Resurrection. We should have full confidence in this so we can
repel:
●
Satan’s oppression – burdens or afflictions that torment from
the outside. May affect one’s health, emotion and psychological
well-being, spiritual life, relationships and work. Seemingly out
of nowhere, but they appear for no apparent cause.
●
We can recite Deliverance prayers, the prayer to St. Michael, the
Holy Rosary, prayer to plead the Divine Holy Blood of Jesus for
protection.
22
6. SWORD of the SPIRIT: God’s Word—the Bible—is
described as “living and powerful, and sharper than any two-
edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12). Jesus used this weapon
when Satan tempted Him in the wilderness. To each
of Satan’s efforts to lead Him into sin, Jesus replied,
“it is written. . . “ and proceeded to quote Scripture to
destroy Satan’s temptations. God’s Word is truth
(John 17:17). That is why it is so powerful. That is
why it is so important that we study the Bible and
become familiar with its truths and its power.
23
We can concentrate of Protection Bible verses to keep our
courage up like:
●
1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what
is common to mankind and God is faithful. He will not let
you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you
are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you
can endure it.
●
2 Thess 3:3 But the Lord is faithful. He will strengthen you
and protect you from the evil one
●
Dt 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid
24
Or terrified because of them for the Lord your God goes
with you; He will never leave you or forsake you.
7. PRAYERS: COMMUNICATION WITH GOD
●
Pray at every opportunity every kind of prayer: personal
prayer, group prayer, intercessory prayer
●
Fasting - Fasting is a temporary renunciation of something
that is in itself good, like food, in order to intensify our
expression of need for something greater — namely, God
and his work in our lives.

CONCLUSION
●
Evangelism is spiritual warfare. 4 Important points
1. Guard against 2 extremes a) there is NO DEVIL
b) all negative things or happenings are attributable to
the devil. God has given us spiritual gifts: wisdom,
knowledge, discernment of spirits.
2. Jesus has already won the battle by his
Resurrection. When God enlisted us in his army, He
also trains, equips and leads us.
3. We have the power to defeat the devil but it
26
Is premised on our submission to God. Important
are righteousness, faith, and dependence on God.
4. As good soldiers we can expect hardships and
difficulties. We are to bear them and overcome
them.
●
Now we are having a CLP the battle is ON!
