Problem Statement: Comparative experimental study on Venturi and Orifice meter
performances (Coefficient of Discharge etc.).

Objectives: After the experimentation, the student will be able to learn about
 Types of fluid flow patterns
 coefficient of discharge

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to


 Understand different techniques of flow measurement
 Estimate the discharge through a pipe by using a Venturi/Orifice meter

Pipes (GI-MOC)

Problem Statement: Experimental study on the efficiency of Centrifugal Pumps and
Reciprocating pumps

Objectives: After the experimentation, the student will be able to learn about
 types of pumps
 Actual discharge and head

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to


 Calculate the efficiency of centrifugal pumps and reciprocating pumps
 Calculate the head developed by centrifugal pump and reciprocating pump

Studies on the effect of different parameters (Particle Size, Flow rate, density of fluid etc.) on
the friction losses of a fluidized bed column

 Minimum fluidization velocity
 Pressure drop calculations for fluidized bed

 Calculate the Pressure drop across the fluidized bed column
 Understand the effect of various parameters on Pressure drop
 Understand the concept of Minimum fluidization velocity

the friction losses of a packed bed column
Objective: After the experimentation, the student will be able to learn about
 Types of packing materials
 Pressure drop calculations by using Ergun Equation
Learning outcomes: Students will be able to
 Calculate the Pressure drop across the packed column
 Understand the effect of various parameters on Pressure drop.

Problem Statement:
A centrifugal pump is used to deliver a liquid rate at the rate of 0.003 m3/s from a reservoir at
atmospheric pressure. The gauge pressure at the end pf delivery pipe is 300KN/m2. The
delivery is 3.5 m and the pump suction is 1.5 m above the level in the reservoir. The delivery
pipe is 40 mm in diameter. The friction in the suction pipe is 3.5 KN/m2 and the friction in
the delivery pipe is 41KN/m2. Density of liquid is 900kg/m3. Determine:
a) Head developed by the pump
b) Work done per second by the pump
c) Net positive suction head of the pump.
Objectives: By solving this case, the student will be able to learn about
 Net positive suction head of the pump.
Learning outcomes:
Students will be able to:
1) Calculate Net positive suction head of the pump.
2) Calculate the head developed by centrifugal pump
