Problem Statement:
A centrifugal pump is used to deliver a liquid rate at the rate of 0.003 m3/s from a reservoir at
atmospheric pressure. The gauge pressure at the end pf delivery pipe is 300KN/m2. The
delivery is 3.5 m and the pump suction is 1.5 m above the level in the reservoir. The delivery
pipe is 40 mm in diameter. The friction in the suction pipe is 3.5 KN/m2 and the friction in
the delivery pipe is 41KN/m2. Density of liquid is 900kg/m3. Determine:
a) Head developed by the pump
b) Work done per second by the pump
c) Net positive suction head of the pump.
Objectives: By solving this case, the student will be able to learn about
Net positive suction head of the pump.
Learning outcomes:
Students will be able to:
1) Calculate Net positive suction head of the pump.
2) Calculate the head developed by centrifugal pump
