1.0 REPORT GENERAL GUIDELINES

This document acts as a general guideline for Mechanical Laboratory 1 report. Below are some
of the important points:
 Use the first page of this document as the front page of the report.
 Submit only one report for one group.
 The maximum thickness of the report is 8 pages.
 The dateline of the report is 4th December 2015 before 5pm. Zero marks will be given for
late submissions!
 For any inquiries on the report, please consult your section’s lecturer.
 Put in tables and figures with proper numberings and explanation in the paragraphs. See
example. Table headings should be on top of the table, and figure headings should be
at the bottom of the figure.

Example:

Table 1 shows the list of numbers, letters and Roman numbers.

Table 1. List of numbers, letters and Roman numbers.

Numbers Letters Roman numbers
1 A I
2 B II

Figure 1 shows the milling machine.

Figure 1. Milling machine.

 Use passive sentences, not active sentences. Example:

Active: We conduct the milling operation. (Not good)
Passive: The milling operation was conducted. (OK!)
 Make sure you use the image of the real milling machine, components and specimens in our
lab, not from the internet! However, for general explanation, internet images can be used.
 Make sure every reference (internet website, books, papers, etc) is cited!
