Family violence and poverty force many poor children to live on
the streets. With the support of Hong Kong donors, World Vision
set up “Friends”, a home to street children. Vulnerable children
receive basics of life including daily meals, healthcare and
education, which help them take the first step towards a new life.
Standing outside her classroom, 12-year-old Lucio is delighted
to receive school materials from World Vision. In addition to
distributing school supplies to impoverished children, World Vision
also builds schools and provides training for teachers, making the
learning environment both safe and productive for students.

去年災禍連連，得到大家的支持，我們可以迅速回應災難並派發緊急援助。除了救助生命，宣明會也提供長
期全面的支援，協助災民重建家庭和社區，讓兒童回復對未來的盼望與夢想。

2009年，藉大家的踴躍支持，我們推行了多項救援工作︰台灣風災、中國水災、孟加拉與印度暴風，還有
加沙地區、斯里蘭卡與巴基斯坦的人道危機，並肯尼亞、索馬里和其他非洲國家的糧食危機。香港世界宣明
會共進行了66項救援及重建項目，協助近167萬人重建生活，而社區則加強了抗災能力，更有效面對未來的
緊急狀況。

Last year it seemed the world went from one crisis to another. The partnership of our supporters enabled us
to respond immediately and deliver crucial assistance. Beyond ensuring survival, we also provide long-term
holistic support to help people rebuild the future for their families and communities, and children recover
their hopes and dreams.

In 2009, with your compassionate support, WVHK delivered vital emergency assistance and hope to
children and families during the typhoon in Taiwan, the floods in China, the cyclone in Bangladesh and India,
the humanitarian crises in Gaza, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, as well as food crises in Kenya, Somalia, and
other African countries. We carried out 66 relief and rehabilitation projects, helping 1.67 million people
get back on their feet, and most importantly, helping communities increase their resilience and be better
prepared for future emergencies.

2009年6月，特大暴雨引發的洪澇影響中國多個地區，逾3,900萬人受災，宣明會隨即向
村民派發逾715,000公斤大米，並向800名兒童派發歡樂包，同時為受災社區重建橋樑及
復修房屋。

In June 2009, heavy downpours caused severe flooding across China, affecting over 39
million people. World Vision immediately distributed over 715,000 kg of rice to villagers
and provided child-friendly kits for 800 children, as well as rebuilding bridges and houses in
affected communities.

斯里蘭卡內戰 Sri Lanka Crisis

In May 2009, civil war in Sri Lanka displaced 260,000 people. In addition to delivering
food, water and shelter materials, World Vision established temporary learning spaces in
displacement camps and provided children with education kits.

Throughout the year, severe drought in many African countries has forced over a 100
million to face hunger daily. World Vision has worked to support drought-stricken
communities with immediate food aid as well as implementing long-term food security
projects. Thanks to an irrigation project, the family of these twins is now able to cultivate
enough crops.

needy through activities like video watching, and
participating in essay writing and design contests.
