HP Web Jetadmin 10.2. This document will be updated occasionally on http://www.hp.com/go/
webjetadmin Self Help tab titled Late Breaking News, Supported Devices on HP Web Jetadmin
10.2.
This document addresses HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 (10.2.63313).

HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 Service Release 2 (10.2.63313)

HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 (10.2.63313) adds many new feature enhancements, improvements, and
fixes, as well as support for new HP printers. For more information, see Improvements and Fixes in
HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 on page 6 below.
This release supersedes previous releases of the software including version 10.2.59093, 10.2.58560,
and 10.2.62227. This is a cumulative release; all improvements, fixes, and device support in previous
releases are also included in this release.
This version is installed by using the install executable.
NOTE: Upgrading from HP Web Jetadmin 10.0 to HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 is not supported.
Administrators should use the HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 installer as an interim upgrade if upgrading
from HP Web Jetadmin 10.0 is required.
NOTE: Using an HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 installer to upgrade an existing HP Web Jetadmin 10.1
installation is only supported if the version of HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 was released at the same time
or earlier than HP Web Jetadmin 10.2. HP will not test or support upgrades from versions of software
that were not available during a particular development cycle. Specific notes about supported
upgrade versions may be published in future releases of this document (HP Web Jetadmin Late
Breaking News).
NOTE: Upgrading from HP Web Jetadmin7.8 or 8.x is no longer supported. This includes migrations
directly to this version of HP Web Jetadmin using the Migration Tool utility. Starting in January of
2010, HP Web Jetadmin 8.1 is no longer supported. Customers that wish to upgrade to HP Web

Installer 4.5. Navigate to the Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable page and search for
download and install options.
NOTE: The installer for HP Web Jetadmin does extensive disk space checking and allows you to
redirect the installer to place either SQL Server instance files/directories or HP Web Jetadmin
installation directories in alternate storage paths.
Currently, the installer checks default install storage paths during a previous instance upgrade. If the
install storage paths for SQL or the HP Web Jetadmin install directory were changed on your previous
instance, you will have to redirect the installer to these paths by using the controls provided. This is a
known issue and will be corrected in a future release.
NOTE: Always back up your HP Web Jetadmin installation and database before running an install-
upgrade. Read more about backup and restore scripts by locating the online instruction: C:
\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Web Jetadmin 10\WJABackupRestore\
WJABackupRestoreInstructions.txt (the directory may vary depending on installation).
NOTE: Always increase SQL Database Query Timeout within HP Web Jetadmin through Tools >
Options > Shared > General > Database on existing installations of HP Web Jetadmin. This timeout
should be 120 seconds but is not currently being updated by the installer on existing installation
upgrade. Upgrade errors can result if the timeout value is not increased to 120 seconds.

Improvements and Fixes in HP Web Jetadmin 10.2

This portion of Late Breaking News lists improvements and fixes made for HP Web Jetadmin 10.2
(10.2.63313).
1. HP Web Jetadmin (server application HPWJA) is now supported on Windows 64 Bit operating
systems. Please read the HP Web Jetadmin Install Guide for details and requirements.
2. The installer for HP Web Jetadmin has had many improvements but remains essentially the
same:
● Some issues may occur if your system is running with minimal disk space.
● The minimum disk space for HP Web Jetadmin has increased to 6 Gigabytes.
● The installer now requires that you have Windows Installer 4.5.
● The Install log has changed but is still written to the user’s temp directory: %tmp%.
● The HP Web Jetadmin client is not yet released as a 64 bit application but is supported as
a 32 bit application on supported 64 bit Windows operating systems.
3. HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 now contains a new configuration item named Duplex Impressions.
Duplex Impressions is a device feature found in newer HP models and firmware. It changes
the way in which the HP device counts printed pages to align with a new page counting
methodology. The configuration item is a ONE TIME CHANGE that cannot be reversed on the
device after it has been set. More device specific information can be obtained by visiting:
www.hp.com/go/support. To navigate to the support web page for your product, on the Support
and Drivers page, type the product name of your device (for example. HP Color LaserJet
CM3530 MFP or model number CC530A) in the “See support and troubleshooting information”
sections. Once you have located the correct support page search for “Print Tracker Usage”.
4. In Alerts, device address information within custom email formatted messages no longer appear
intermittently labeled Unknown.
5. Improvements in By-user Data Collection performance may vary by implementation. At this
time, HP does not publish HP Web Jetadmin performance details.

6 Chapter 1 Late Breaking News for HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 (Edition 3, 2/2010) ENWW
6. Alert Subscriptions no longer appear for devices that have been removed from the HP Web
Jetadmin All Devices list. The subscription settings cleared for any device that is no longer part
of the system.
7. The Analog Fax column in device lists now correctly displays device capability when device is
on or off the network.
8. The Specified Address import feature now correctly detects and notifies on incorrect IP
address formats.
9. When the By User Reports are grouped by user, they now correctly show user names rather
than showing Unknown.
10. Improvements to Firmware Upgrade now allow same-version upgrades without having to
configure the software to downgrade firmware.
11. A Cover Open condition at the device no longer causes HP Web Jetadmin to falsely generate
Supplies Alerts on all HP devices.
12. USB printing moved to the Security configuration category for HP LaserJet P3010 series
devices.
13. It is now possible to multi select when qualifying firmware images.
14. Improvements have been gained on some configuration items where the last release was
prompting for SNMPv3 credentials. Several configuration items will no longer prompt for
SNMPv3.
15. In Data Collections, time zones will only be displayed if they are present on both the HP Web
Jetadmin server and HP Web Jetadmin client. Data Collection component problems arise when
there is a difference between these two lists. HP Web Jetadmin will always display the time zone
text as it is available from the client desktop.
16. General Alerts are now un-blocked for all non-HP devices. General Alerts are established with
HP device object support as a primary consideration Some of these Alerts, such as Toner Low
and Toner Out, do work for a number of non-HP devices. Customers should check with non-HP
device vendors to understand device manageability as HP Web Jetadmin does not work with all
non-HP devices in the same way. These variations are due to device management object
differences.
17. The device list Export feature now correctly omits comma separators from all numeric values.
18. A user-defined configuration now functions correctly on all devices.
19. Envelope feeder now appears correctly as a capability.
20. The serial number for most non-HP printers is now processed correctly allowing users to block
these devices from Discovery.
21. In Supplies, Group By: Urgency is now providing a correctly sorted listing.
22. In Data Collections, the In Progress status is currently reset as the data collection completes.
Earlier releases displayed the In Progress status even when data collections were not
completing properly.
23. The Solutions Repository now shows item description fields.
24. Firmware versions are now represented correctly on devices when earlier versions of HP Web
Jetadmin had the Use Qualified option set under Tools > Options.
25. Firmware upgrade scheduling is now possible on all firmware upgrade paths.

ENWW Improvements and Fixes in HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 7

26. Configuration items for MFP device configuration are now correctly populated for newer firmware
versions. HP Web Jetadmin does limited firmware revision checking for some configuration
elements such as DSS Configuration.
27. Logic improvements in Supplies alerting and polling prevent missed threshold messages. One
notification will trigger each time a supply level has changed through a specified threshold. A
replenish event is set any time the supply level has increased by 30% or more. A replenish event
causes re-monitoring of specified levels triggering new supply threshold messages.
28. Supplies for most non-HP devices will now have their names reflected correctly by HP Web
Jetadmin. Older versions incorrectly showed supply naming due to ordering differences in device
based objects.

Advanced Non-HP Support Module Currently Unavailable

We regret that the HP Web Jetadmin Advanced Non-HP Support Module has been suspended and is
no longer available for download or licensing. HP is currently investigating the future options for
providing advanced non-HP device support. An update will be posted at www.hp.com/go/wja when
more information is available.

Obsolete Device Columns in HP Web Jetadmin

Several supply columns have been created to augment existing supply column functionality. HP Web
Jetadmin white paper detail exists to explain new supply column functionality that was included in the
last release. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/webjetadmin to obtain the white paper Managing Supplies
Using HP Web Jetadmin and learn more regarding new supplies columns and the obsolete column
category. Existing columns remain but have been moved to a Device List Column category named
Obsolete. These columns will be removed from HP Web Jetadmin software in a future release.
HP Web Jetadmin administrators who are using these columns in device lists or in filtering should
start planning to adopt the newer columns in order to abandon the older ones. Columns that are now
considered obsolete include:

Device Support for HP Web Jetadmin 10.2

The latest version of HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 (10.2.63313) adds support for the following devices:
● HP Scanjet Enterprise 7000n Document Capture Workstation
● HP Scanjet Enterprise 7000nx Document Capture Workstation
● HP Designjet Z5200 44in Postscript Photo Printer
● HP LaserJet Professional P1606dn
● HP LaserJet Professional P1607dn
● HP LaserJet Professional P1608dn
● HP LaserJet Professional P1609dn
● HP LaserJet M5039 MFP
Device updates are installed using HP Web Jetadmin install executable, which will re-release
periodically to provide new device support and defect fixes. The application installer can be run on
any earlier version of HP Web Jetadmin. If the devices for which these updates are targeted are
discovered prior to the application update, a refresh is required in order to re-register the device to the
appropriate device model. The device update does not force this to occur automatically. Devices can
be refreshed individually by locating them in the All Devices list and using the Refresh (full) feature.
To force this refresh to occur on many devices at once, delete affected devices from the All Devices
list and then run a discovery on them. Specified Address discovery can be performed to target only
affected devices.
For more complete details about device support for HP Web Jetadmin 10.2, visit http://www.hp.com/
go/webjetadmin, click the Self Help tab, and see the related Supported Devices readme document.

Jetadmin by checking this document regularly or by using HP Subscriber's Choice Alerts on
www.hp.com.
1. Currently, the installer checks default install storage paths during a previous instance upgrade. If
the install storage paths for SQL or the HP Web Jetadmin install directory were changed on your
previous instance, you will have to redirect the installer to these paths by using the controls
provided. This is a known issue and will be corrected in a future release.
2. HP Web Jetadmin now requires a minimum SQL Database Query Timeout of 120 seconds. The
timeout is only set to this new minimum on a new installation. This is a flaw in the HP Web
Jetadmin upgrade code and will be corrected in a future release. For now, ensure that your SQL
Database Query Timeout is at 120 seconds rather than the old default of 30 seconds. Upgrade
failures may occur if the timeout value is not set to 120 seconds. SQL Database Query Timeout
can be found within HP Web Jetadmin through Tools > Options > Shared > General >
Database.
3. HP Web Jetadmin's PJL configuration item is blocked for some device models. For a
workaround, use Send Print Test to transmit file to device. This should be fixed in the next
release.
4. The Action for the IpSec policy in HP Web Jetadmin cannot be modified. For a workaround, add
another rule. The Modify button appears and allows the ability to change the IpSec policy.
5. The encryption strength is setting wrong values on several HJP devices: P3015, CM3530,
P4015. For a workaround, use the EWS to configure encryption strength. This should fixed in the
next release.
6. Some SMTP servers expect a fully qualified domain name in the email sender (WJA) greeting.
HP Web Jetadmin is currently using an IP address rather than a fully qualified domain name.
This will be fixed in a future release.
7. Configuring OXPd workflow onto embedded digital send using a URL that contains an
ampersand (&) will fail. For a workaround, use the EWS. This should be fixed in the next
release.
8. Large configuration templates may need to be broken into smaller parts to ensure configuration
success. Complex templates containing many settings may cause device and or HP Web
Jetadmin software conflicts during the configuration. Investigations show that multiple settings
can be performed with greater success when templates are smaller. (For example, use
templates that contain a dozen or so configuration items rather than templates that contain
multiple dozen items.)
9. HPWJA Service restart may be required if HP Web Jetadmin Client startup reports that the
HPWJA Service is not available or not fully started.
10. Some newer devices that are capable of Disk may appear in HP Web Jetadmin Storage tab with
a False indicator even though disk security is enabled. This is a known issue and should be
addressed in a future firmware and/or software release. Watch HP Web Jetadmin Late Breaking
News for more details in the future.
11. Prior to installing HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 over a running HP Web Jetadmin installation, it is
recommended to use Application Management > Overview > HP Web Jetadmin – All Active
Tasks task module to detect any paused or pending tasks. These tasks should be stopped or
resolved before running the installer.
12. When configuring Mapping, if an image is selected that has a transparent background, other
parts of the HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 display will show through the map. It is recommended to use
images with no transparent backgrounds.

10 Chapter 1 Late Breaking News for HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 (Edition 3, 2/2010) ENWW
13. All Devices list data appear representative of a newly discovered device on an old device. Once
the new device is truly discovered, an old device will show new device data. At this time, this is
expected behavior.
14. The Import/Export address book functionality does not closely match device EWS. A fix is
expected in a future release.
15. An HP Web Jetadmin client will not display localized text correctly when the workstation
Windows installation is in one language and the desktop regional settings are in another
language. The usual behavior is that some text will display in one language while some text will
display in another language. At this time, HP is supporting localized clients when the desktop
regional setting and the Windows install language are the same.
16. HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 performance gains are realized through adding hardware memory, using
multiprocessor hosts, using high performance storage systems. Performance is also impacted
by background tasks such as discovery or other processor intensive operations. Check for active
background processes by using the Active Tasks Task Module located in the Overview node
on the navigation tree.
17. The HP LaserJet 1505n does not support password objects that allow HP Web Jetadmin to
confirm user knowledge of passwords. Because of this, passwords are not supported on this HP
model.
18. Some user preferences, window size, column size, and others may not be retained over a
reinstall or upgrade of this software.
19. Installing a signed certificate into Microsoft Windows Vista fails with error.
20. Devices can count Microsoft Windows test pages as color but these pages are tagged as
monochrome by the driver. This can cause a page count discrepancy between Device
Utilization Reports and By User Reports.
21. It is recommended to install localized .NET Framework to match the client workstation on which
HP Web Jetadmin will be running.

Improvements and Fixes in Previous Releases HP Web

Jetadmin 10.2
Listed below are improvements and fixes made in HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 Service Release 1
(10.2.62227):
1. Reports now may contain the error message: No data retrieved for the selected devices in
the specified time period. For large reports where data is expected, try increasing the
database query timeout option.
2. Data Collection Anomalies are now limited to 10,000 entries. Attempting to display large lists
of anomalies caused Unexpected errors in earlier releases of HP Web Jetadmin 10.2.
3. Scheduled data synchronizations with other HP Web Jetadmin servers now complete
successfully.
4. The Search feature in Help now yields results correctly.
5. The Delete option now works correctly for reports archived before 2008.
6. The Edit Discovery Template feature now correctly displays and allows control over credential
settings.
7. Upgrading from HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 now creates a new Specified Address Group based on
the address list present in the earlier HP Web Jetadmin release.

ENWW Improvements and Fixes in Previous Releases HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 11

8. Upgrading from HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 now correctly retains Specified Address discovery
settings from templates used in the earlier HP Web Jetadmin release.
9. Specified Address discovery details are now displayed correctly for discoveries run in HP Web
Jetadmin 10.2.
10. Group Policies are now applied correctly to existing devices at the time the policy setting is
activated in HP Web Jetadmin.
11. Migration from HP Web Jetadmin 8.x now correctly migrates all supplies threshold alerts
subscriptions.
12. Device Utilization reports now correctly reflect Mono Simplex counts for HP Color Laserjet
3600, 4500, 4600, and 5500. Previously, these devices did not have mono simplex reflected
correctly on HP Web Jetadmin reports.
13. Outgoing Fax counts in both HP Web Jetadmin device list columns and reports now appear for a
number of devices. Previously, these counters did not appear correctly.
14. Devices replaced into existing device IP addresses where the older devices had been present in
HP Web Jetadmin Data Collections will no longer have data collections performed. These
devices are qualified as new, unique devices and can have Data Collections settings established
but are no longer considered the same device due to being located at an older device's IP
address.
15. SNMP Trap payload (from HP Web Jetadmin Alerts) now contains device details when HP Web
Jetadmin is able to acquire these details. Previously, these trap packets could contain Unknown
even when the device was on the network.
16. In HP Web Jetadmin Reports, the Outgoing Fax pages are now correctly reflected for many
devices. Previously, these could incorrectly display a value of **.
17. The HP OfficeJet Pro now shows correct counts for Total Engine Cycle in device list columns
and in HP Web Jetadmin reports.
18. Secure Storage Erase now functions correctly on many HP DesignJet models.
19. A new Device configuration object has been added: Clear Send to Network Folder Settings.
This object was created to provide a configuration path to change Send to Network Folder
Settings. A new and different Send to Network Folder Settings configuration item is in plan for
a future release of HP Web Jetadmin that allows settings like Folder Path to be changed and
managed. However, for the interim, Clear Send to Network folder must be used along with
configuration templates to manage Send to Network Folder settings. Help will be provided that
covers this in great detail.
20. There is now full localization in Alerts email generated in non-English.
21. Page count columns now display correct values for HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 devices.
22. In Print Management:
● UPD version 5.0 driver upload now functions properly.
● Create Print Queue succeeds with version 5.0 UPD driver.
NOTE: The remote server must be have print queue or print share functionality enabled. See
Microsoft documentation to enable or share print queues on Microsoft Windows.
23. Users no longer lose the ability to view HP Web Jetadmin Maps. Some user behavior in addition
to HP Web Jetadmin client cache behavior could cause Maps to disappear from view within
HP Web Jetadmin. These issues have been fixed.

control panel display text in HP Web Jetadmin status and other features that convey this
information.
25. Default Copy options within Configuration now support Auto Detect Mode.
26. The HP Web Jetadmin feature Import configuration now accepts data wrapped in quotes
containing the comma character within the configuration CSV file.

specific device support is performed.

36. The Fax Baud configuration object now sets correctly on devices supporting this feature.

corrected.
38. The PJL file repository now accepts new files after upgrade from HP Web Jetadmin 10.1.

offset of hours and minutes. This ensures date and time are configured accurately on devices in
both single and batch modes.
Improvements and fixes made in earlier releases of HP Web Jetadmin 10.2:
1. Outgoing Fax Counts now appear correctly in Device Utilization Reports.
NOTE: Some device specific-issues still exist; for more details, please see the Known Issues
on page 9 section in this document.
2. HP Web Jetadmin Service (HPWJA Service) startup fails. Upgrades over 10.1 with HP Web
Jetadmin version 10.2.58560 installer (hpwja_setup-102-58560.exe) may fail in some cases.
The HP Web Jetadmin application installs correctly the first time and runs normally until a reboot
or when the HPWJA Service is restarted. At this point, all service startups fail. This issue is fixed
in the latest HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 release.
3. The HP Web Jetadmin Data Collection feature no longer allows data collection to take place on
a new device that has been placed on the network at an IP address that was registered to a
different device (one not present on the network). HP Web Jetadmin now fails the collection for
this device. The new device, when added to Data Collection, is added as a different and newer
device.

4. HP Web Jetadmin Estimated % supply columns now display Not Empty when a supply level is
detected at 100%. HP Web Jetadmin supplies Reporting and supplies Alerting functionality can
be adversely affected when a supply level is detected at 100% over a long period of time. Some
HP devices can potentially incorrectly convey values that lead HP Web Jetadmin to detect
100%. For this reason, HP Web Jetadmin will display Not Empty instead of 100%. This can be
observed in both estimated % supply level columns and supply level gauges found in device
Status. For all other Estimated % supply values (0 – 99), HP Web Jetadmin will display an
integer. A few HP device models may have Not Empty, Low, or Empty within Estimated %
supply columns. Again, this change was implemented to more closely match values returned
from these device models.

user selects an option and then deselects it.

Alerts listing.

Configure Devices.

Count column in the Device list.
