T H E C U S C O C H RO N I C L E S
The new congregation in
Cusco has launched! After a
weeklong campaign from
October 18th-24th with
supporters from each of the
team membersʼ supporting
congregations, we had our big
Inauguration day. It was an
exciting and emotional day as
we had been building up to
this for several years now.
Our financial supporters have
supported us through a year
and a half of preparation. The
day to launch Iglesia de
Cristo, Congrecación Ayllu
had come! And what an
encouragement that we had
215 people in attendance!
Granted, probably 80 of them
were Christians from the other
church of Christ in town and
20 were campaigners. But,
that means we had over 100
visitors from the community.
2010
The girls taught the kidsʼ class
and had around 40 kids. The
campaigners spent the week
studying English by reading
the Bible with around 35
students, and we passed out
about 8,000 flyers. Some of
the visitors were friends of the
team, but many came simply
as a result of the flyers. The
campaigners also served and
worked at a school for very
poor children with very difficult
home lives. It was a great

The inauguration was
exciting, but now itʼs time to
really get to work. We are
continuing to read the Bible in
English with about 20 people
every Tuesday. Also, on

Tuesdays and Wednesdays,
we have several Bible studies
in Spanish. The week after
the Inauguration was a
holiday weekend, so we were
a little disappointed with only
25 attenders. Yesterday, the
second Sunday after our
Inauguration, we had 42 in
attendance, which included 7
guests from the U.S., part of a
group from Continent of Great
Cities visiting different teams
trained by CGC. So, we were
happy with an increase of 10
(not including the Americans).
Both weeks, several of our
visitors marked on the visitorsʼ
card that they wanted to start
a relationship with Christ or
that they wanted to become
members of the church.

With each person who marks
that, they receive a personal
phone call and we will try to set
up a study with them. If people
keep marking those boxes on
the visitorʼs card like they have
so far, we are going to be very
busy studying with these people.
Charla and the girls on the team
continue to work hard on the
weekly childrenʼs class.
Also, Charla is in charge of
record keeping and has been
busy developing a system to
keep track of all of our visitors
and coordinating with Barton on
contacting them during the week
after their first and second visits.
In addition, she coordinates with
Barton as to who has requested
a phone call or wants to know
more about the church or start a
relationship with Christ.
Matt continues to prepare
sermons in Spanish every week.
The guys spend much time on
planning a worship service that
will honor God, but also will be
an uplifting experience for the
Peruvians. They recently
planned out a yearlong
preaching calendar.
Matt, along with Barton and
Allison, also began Quechua
classes this past week. Quechua
is the language of the natives in
this area and most still speak it
in the villages and in the
countryside. There is a fairly
large native population in the city “I PLANTED, APOLLOS
and they speak Quechua as WATERED, BUT GOD GAVE

Quechua, being able to
communicate in Quechua will
open doors of communication to
people in the villages as well as
allow us to communicate to
people in Cusco in their native
language…an ability that almost
no foreigners have and many
younger Cusqueñans do not
have. It seems like a very difficult
language at first glance, because
it is not a latin-based language,
but we have been assured that
after three or four months it
becomes easier than Spanish. INAU GURAL SERVICE KIDS’
Weʼll see. We are only going to C LASS
study one night a week for a
couple of hours and it is not vital
to our ministry, but we hope that
it will be another means by which
God can be glorified here in
Cusco.

and God gives the increase in
the early days of this new
