IMMIGRATION REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY INTO MALAYSIA

To enter Malaysia, a visitor should fulfil the following procedures:

1. PASSPORT OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT

1.1 Every person entering Malaysia must possess a valid national Passport or
internationally recognized Travel Document valid for traveling to Malaysia.

1.2 Any person not in possession of a Passport or Travel Document which is recognized
by the Malaysian Government must obtain a Document in lieu of Passport.

1.3 Application for the Document in lieu of Passport can be made at any Malaysian
Representative Office abroad.

1.4 Holders of Travel Documents such as Certificate of Identity, Laisser Passer, Titre de
Voyage and Permanent Residence Certificate must ensure that their return ability to
the country of origin is assured.

1.5 The documents shall be valid, for more than six (6) months from the date of entry.

2. VISA REQUIREMENT

2.1 A visa is an endorsement in a passport or other recognized travel document of


foreigner indicating that the holder has applied for permission to enter Malaysia and
that permission has been granted.

2.2 Indian nationals who require a Visa to enter Malaysia must apply and obtain a Visa
in advance at any Malaysian High Commission, Malaysian Embassies or Malaysian
Consulate abroad. In India, visa is issued at the Malaysian mission in New Delhi,
Chennai and Mumbai.

2.3 Visa which has been granted is not absolute guarantee that the holder will be
allowed to enter Malaysia. The final decision lies with the Immigration Officer at the
entry point.

3. VALID RETURN TRAVEL TICKET AND SUFFICIENT FUNDS

3.1 A visitor is also required to proof his financial ability to stay in Malaysia and have a
confirmed ticket to a third country.

3.2 Any person classified under Section 8 of Malaysian Immigration Act 1959/63
(prohibited immigrants) will not be allowed to enter Malaysia even though he/she
is in possession of a valid Passport or Travel Document, Visa, travel ticket and
sufficient funds.

4. ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE CARD

4.1 A visitor is required to complete the Arrival/Departure Card (Imm.26) upon arrival at
the gazetted entry points. This card is obtainable at any entry point, Malaysian
Representative Office abroad or travel agencies.

4.2 A visitor must present his/her passport together with the duly completed
arrival/departure card to the Immigration officer on duty and he/she must ensure that
the passport or travel document is endorsed with the appropriate pass before leaving
the immigration counter.
5. PASS

5.1 Other than application for entry for the purpose of tourist, social or business visits, all
applications for other types of passes mentioned must be made before arrival in the
country.

5.2 All applications must have sponsorship in Malaysia. The sponsors must agree to be
responsible for the maintenance and repatriation of the visitors from Malaysia if it
should become necessary.

6. Types of Visa

The Malaysian Government issues Three (3) types of visa to foreign nationals:

6.1 SINGLE ENTRY VISA

6.1.1 Issued to foreign nationals who require a visa to enter Malaysia mainly
for a social visit. Normally valid for a single entry and for a period of three
(3) months from the date of issue.

6.2 MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA

6.2.1 Issued to foreign nationals who require a visa to enter Malaysia mainly
for business or government-to-government matters. Normally valid for a
period within three (3) months to twelve (12) months from the date of
issue.

6.2.2 Citizens of India who wish to enter Malaysia for the purpose of Social
Visit are eligible to apply for Multiple Entry Visa.

6.2.3 The validity of the Multiple Entry Visa is one (1) year. Each entry is 30
days only and the extension of stay is not allowed.

6.2.4 Conditions for Multiple Entry Visa are:


- Applicant must show proof of sufficient fund for staying in Malaysia
- Posses valid and confirmed return ticket
- Group tour is not eligible to apply for Multiple Entry Visa.
- Demand Draft of Rs750 (drawn in favour of The Consulate General
of Malaysia).

6.3 REVOCATION OF TRANSIT VISA FACILITY

6.3.1 Indian citizens who wish to enter Malaysia on transit to other countries
must obtain visa from Malaysian High Commission / Malaysian Consulate
in advance as the facility for Transit Visa is no longer available.

7. APPLICATION FOR VISA WITHOUT REFERENCE

7.1 Document required for visa application without reference are:


- Original passport
- A copy of visa application form (Form IMM.47)
- Two (2) passport size photograph of applicant
- Original and photocopy of confirmed and returned air ticket.
- Bank statement / traveller’s cheque
- Invitation letter (if any)
- Demand Draft of Rs. 750 (drawn in favour of The Consulate General of
Malaysia).

Note: VISA WITHOUT REFERENCE is required for the purpose of social visit.

8. APPLICATION FOR VISA WITH REFERENCE

8.1 Visa With Reference (VDR) is a visa issued by a Malaysia Foreign


Mission/Representative office to non Malaysian citizen to entitle the older to
enter Malaysia prior to the approval given by the Immigration Department of
Malaysia head quarters and the State Immigration of Sabah and Sarawak.

8.2 Document required for visa application with reference (visa will issued after the
application is being referred and approved by Department of Immigration
Malaysia / Other Authority Agencies) are:

- Original approval letter from Department of Immigration Malaysia/other


authority agencies
- Original passport
- Visa application form (Form IMM.47)
- Two (2) passport size photograph of applicant
- Original and photocopy air ticket
- Demand Draft of Rs. 750 (drawn in favour of The Consulate General of
Malaysia).

Note: VISA WITH REFERENCE is required for student, employment, dependent and
professional visit pass.

9. VISA ON ARRIVAL (VOA)

9.1 Generally Indian Passport holders are not eligible for Visa On Arrival.
However, VOA issuance can be considered to citizens of India if they hold valid
permanent residence, expatriate pass, dependant pass, student pass and long
term visit pass from other countries.
