Dear Parish Family,
I welcome you to this celebration of the Sixtieth
Anniversary of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. As the
seventh Pastor of the parish it is an honor to be here to
celebrate this milestone on our faith journey. Any
anniversary, especially that of our parish, invites us to
look back on the stories and memories of these last 60
years. Some of you have been part of our parish family
since the beginning and have seen it grow from a small
parish, branched off from Holy Trinity in Hackensack, to
the parish of today, which comprises over 1100 families
and 25 ministries. Others have joined the parish over the
years or over the last few months. Together we make up
this vibrant faith community.
Over the last few months many of you have loaned
us some of your priceless treasures of photos, yearbooks,
etc. I thank you for sharing your mementos with us!
Each photo, memory, yearbook, etc. helps to create the
beautiful mosaic of these last 60 years. As in any mosaic
each piece is unique in size and shape, and when put
together creates a beautiful image.
Each of us is important in creating the mosaic of
today and tomorrow. Each of us is an important part of
the story of our parish that is being written today and
every day. We have been called together by God at this
time in history to help build up the Kingdom in this part of
the Lord’s vineyard.
We have been blessed by the Stewardship of Time,
Talent, and Treasure of the members of our parish over
these last 60 years. They have, as St. Paul said, “Fought
the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith.” (2 Tim
4:7). Now it is our turn to build upon the great foundation
that has been constructed over these last 60 years.
When our parish gathers in the future to celebrate other
milestones may they look at us and be inspired by the
contributions that we have each made, whether they be
contributions of time, or talent, and/or treasure.
I take this opportunity to thank Bishop John Flesey,
Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark, for taking
the time out of his busy schedule to join us today. He is
no stranger to our parish, for he has celebrated
Confirmation here, as well as my Installation Mass over 3
years ago. Bishop Flesey was also the homilist at my
First Mass of Thanksgiving over 18 years ago. He is a
gifted speaker and we are blessed to have him preach
the 60th Anniversary Mass this afternoon.
I thank the members of the Gala Committee for all
their hard work and dedication in making this celebration
(both this weekend and next weekend’s display in the
auditorium) a reality.
Thanks also go to everyone who helped with our
Gala journal. Your work and your generosity have made
the journal a beautiful memento of our parish’s 60th
Anniversary celebration. A journal will be given to
everyone who attends the Gala reception this evening,

and will also be available for individual sale.
A special "thank you" goes to Bob Gaydos, who
worked tirelessly to prepare the exhibit that we will all
have an opportunity to enjoy next weekend. Of course,
the exhibit could not have been possible without the
"memories" that have been shared by so many
parishioners. I thank all who lent us your "memories".
The story of Our Lady Queen of Peace parish
continues and each of us has an important part to play in
it.
I am honored to write this as your Pastor and I look
forward to walking and working with you in this part of the
Lord’s Kingdom.
Along with the entire parish I CONGRATULATE
FATHER KEVIN on the 20th anniversary of his
Ordination to the Priesthood on November 17, 1990! AD

May Mary, Our Lady Queen of Peace, continue to

60TH ANNIVERSARY NEWS
3 PM Mass, November 7th, 2010-Today!
Bishop John Flesey, D.D., will be the main celebrant
and homilist, along with clergy who have served here
in the past. All parishioners are invited.
Following the Mass all ticket holders will proceed to the
Hasbrouck Heights Hilton for fun, fellowship, good food,
and great dancing with a live band. The reception begins
with a cocktail hour from 5 to 6, and then dinner and
dancing from 6 to 9.
After the weekend Masses on November 13th and 14th,
there will be a 60th Anniversary exhibit in the auditorium.
Admission is free to all parishioners. There will be an
opportunity to purchase the 60th Anniversary journal,
commemorative dvd, and a souvenir magnet, along with
the chance to win some great prizes.
Although we have some prizes already, we are still
looking for additional items. If you would like to donate
something (such as a weekend getaway, spa treatment,
tickets to a sporting event, theater, or concert, restaurant
certificates, etc.) please contact Susan at the parish

Immaculate Conception Novena
Once again we will soon be having our Immaculate
Conception Novena.
For nine consecutive Mondays we will gather in
church to pray the Miraculous Medal Novena. This
year spiritual reflections will be given on the
various titles of Our Lady found in the Litany of
Loreto. Our Novena began on Monday, October
11th at 7:30 P.M. and will continue each Monday at
7:30 P.M. until December 7th.
 St. Justus of Canterbury / Feast day: November 10 / 627
Benedictine archbishop of Canterbury. Justus was a Roman sent
by Pope St. Gregory I the Great in 601 to England, to evangelize
the Anglo-Saxons. Justus and others were sent as aides to St.
Dates Nov. 7th through Nov. 14th, 2010 Augustine. In 604, Justus was consecrated the first bishop of

Service Activity Available for Grades 6 and 7 Students
On November 12th after school, from 3:00pm – 4:00pm,
students in Grades 6 and 7 religion classes who would like
to help make greeting cards for our military, homebound
parishioners and nursing home residents should contact

meet on the top floor of the convent for this activity.
Parents are welcome to come and help.
All Saint’s Day Contest entries are due by next Sunday,
November 14th for Grades 1 -7. Please bring your
drawings, stories, poems or essays about our Catholic
saints to religion class. We encourage all families to take
advantage of this learning experience. Prizes will be
awarded.
Grade 8 Confirmation Candidates are reminded to attend
the mandatory “Explained Mass” next Sunday, November
14th at 7pm. Fr. Kevin will preside. Parents and all
parishioners are welcome to attend.

How do I schedule a Baptism? - Baptisms are scheduled once a month during the year (except during Lent). Arrangements must
be made in advance by calling the rectory during business hours. Parents must be registered members of the parish
(on our parish mailing list). Parents are required to attend an instruction session the week before.
Sacrament of Marriage - Please make arrangements at least one year in advance.
Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick - Anyone sick or housebound, or who is going to the hospital for tests or surgery,
please call a priest at the Rectory.
R.C.I.A.- (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) - is the process the Catholic Community provides to welcome adults who wish to
become Catholic and to prepare adult Catholics to receive Confirmation (and, when needed, First Eucharist).
Please contact Fr. Kevin for more information. Meets Tuesday evening 7:00 PM in the Rectory Basement.
Religious Education - Classes meet on Sunday mornings from 8:30 - 9:50 AM for grades 1-8. Office hours for the Religious
Education Center are Mon.-Fri. 9:30-11:30am - 1:00-4:00pm; evenings by appt.
What about my ‘Teenager’? - Our parish has a very active “Youth Ministry” program for the youth of our parish.
Our Youth Group takes part in Retreats held in the Archdiocese and also participates in various functions that are held within our
parish. See our calendar of events in this bulletin.

Legion of Mary - Meets every Tuesday morning in the lower level of the Rectory at 9:30 AM.
Alive In the Spirit - A charismatic prayer group meets every Wednesday at 7:30 PM in the lower level of the Rectory.

St. Pio (Padre Pio) Devotion - The first Friday of every month at 7:30 PM in the church.
Eucharistic Adoration - The first Saturday of each month following the 8:30 AM Mass until 10:00 AM, closing with Benediction.
Corpus Christi Adoration Chapel - Hasbrouck Heights, NJ /Monday through Thursday from 12 Noon to 10 PM.
Our Lady of Visitation Chapel - Paramus, NJ /Sundays from 2:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Sacred Heart Church - Rochelle Park, NJ /First
Fridays of the month from 8:30 AM - 8:30 AM Saturday. Every Thursday after 8 AM Mass for an hour.
Perpetual Adoration - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel - Ridgewood, NJ (24 hrs. - 7 days)
Bible Study - Classes meets mornings and evenings. Discussions and sharing will be on the Gospel for the coming Sunday.
