A note from our Pastor Emeritus
Dear Parish Family of Queen of Peace,
Charles Dickens wrote, “It was the best of times; it
was the worst of times.” Many people would agree that
the past several years have not been wonderful,
considering the various wars, financial difficulties each
family faces, health issues, and the economy in general.
As Queen of Peace celebrates a milestone of 60
years, I am privileged to have been a part of the parish as
Pastor from 2004-2007. My gratitude goes to Archbishop
Myers for the opportunity to be the pastor of this great
parish for that period of time. When I arrived on January
1, 2004, I wondered, “why assign me on New Year's
Day”? Well, it did not take me long to realize that, in
addition to being the start of a New Year, it was another
New Beginning for all of us. I can truly say, despite the
political and economic climate, “it was the best of times”. I
sincerely appreciate the great outpouring of love and
friendship, the new beginnings for many spiritual
activities, the St. Patrick Irish soda bread celebration, the
St. Joseph Sharing Table, the Parish Ministry Fair and
Picnic, the growth in Ministries, the R.C.I.A. under the
direction of Fr. Kevin, as well as the beautiful art and
environment decorations created seasonally under his
guidance.
The school rental which helped to finance the parish,
along with the parish Stewardship initiatives, allowed for
the updating and improvements to the rectory, parish
grounds, Convent and Church buildings during this
period.
I am grateful to the priests who have served with me:
Fr. Paul, Fr. Steve, Fr. Kevin, and also to Deacon Tony,
the Sisters, the parish staff, Anne, Concetta, Fran,
Janina, Katie, Sr. Louise, and the maintenance
department of John & Mark, all of whom helped to make
those years effective.
Those years went very rapidly, and unfortunately, I
had to make a very important decision regarding my
health issues and the fact that I was nearing the age of
70. Deciding retirement was the wise decision, I departed
as Pastor and became Pastor Emeritus in 2007, though
the celebration of my 40th anniversary as a priest in
addition to my retirement celebration will always remain in
my memory and keep me an integral part of Queen of
Peace.
Now, under the pastorate of Fr. Larry, who has been
a friend for many years, I know the parish is thriving as he
leads Queen of Peace wisely with much prayer and
reflection.
You are all in my prayers and thoughts, and I will
never forget these special years as I say,

Immaculate Conception Novena
The Immaculate Conception Novena is in progress.
For nine consecutive Mondays we will gather in
church to pray the Miraculous Medal Novena. This
year spiritual reflections will be given on the
various titles of Our Lady found in the Litany of
Loreto. Our Novena began on Monday, October
11th at 7:30 P.M. and will continue each Monday at
7:30 P.M. until December 7th.

Catechism Class - Over the summer several members
of the parish had been gathering to walk through the
Catechism of the Catholic Church. It has continued to this
day. We meet on Wednesday evening in the school
from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. If interested, come join us!

Religious Education News
Towards the middle of November, there is always a lull in
the activities that take place on the religious education
calendar. It gives us a chance to appreciate our children
and catechists and all they have accomplished. We at
OLQP are so blessed to have 17 dedicated men and
women who come every Sunday to minister to 246 parish
children in grades 1 through 8. THANK YOU so very much
as you continue to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Recently, many parents have come forth and volunteered
their time and talent in the Religious Education Program.
They help as teacher aides, hall monitors, office helpers,
and some are preparing materials for our retreats. We
appreciate your support.
Since we like to keep our class groups small, I am seeking
a volunteer for a grade 7 group. This class will begin in
January, 2011. Please call Angela at 201-845-9545 for
more details.

ADORATION FOR LIFE
On December 8th-The Feast of the Immaculate
Conception, there will be Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament beginning at 9:00 A.M. and lasting until
Benediction at 7:00 P.M. Please join members of the
Respect Life Committee as we worship and give thanks
to our Lord and honor our Blessed Mother Mary. Sign-up

Our Lady Queen of Peace's Respect Life committee

PAVING THE WAY - Thank you to all who have

proceeds, our fund is up to $40,600. We are still short of

Catholic Schools provide an important educational option in NJ
by educating students of all economic incomes. Catholic
Schools also are a needed resource for the mission of the
church. The Opportunity Scholarship Act (S-1872/A-2810) offers
opportunities for parents who might be unable to send their
children to a Catholic school or another nonpublic school in NJ.
In a series of questions and answers, the NJ Catholic
Conference, (which has consistently supported this bill) offers a
response to misinformation that has been promulgated in many
public forums. Please call, write, or email your legislator and ask
that they support the Opportunity Scholarship Act. The most
convenient way to do this is to go to

Q. Do nonpublic schools accept classified students?
A. Yes, nonpublic schools accept classified students.
Unfortunately, classified nonpublic school students do not
receive the same level of state and federal aid that is given to
classified public school students.
Despite receiving less state and federal financial aid than
parents of classified students in public schools, nonpublic
school parents are willing to trade the more limited assistance
for their classified children in return for the greater rewards of
attending a nonpublic school of their choice.
Nonpublic school administrators are more than willing to accept
classified children; however, with those children should come
the same state and federal dollars available to public schools,
especially since students attending nonpublic schools save the
taxpayers millions of dollars in total education dollars expended.
