Course Contents

The Cadet Training Programme is the first step towards being a Captain on a cruise liner taking passengers around

Note: MCA assessment requirements will not be applicable to this pre-sea education programme. Students will be

SAMET on behalf of LJMU will undertake the task of counselling and supervising each student on their TRB . We will

advise the students on its content and how to write the TRB before going to sea. We will also counsel the student
at midpoint and end of the sea-phase to make sure that they do not arrive in UK with an inadequately completed
TRB. Prior to going to sea, SAMET staff will liaise with shipping companies regarding student TRB needs, provide !
information for Master and officers of each vessel and act as a first point of contact if the ship or company require
more information or advice. Module

Academic Delivery at Liverpool Phase 4a = 11 weeks (also includes signals)


Phase 4b = 11weeks
The academic programme includes SQA safety papers and Cert HE Nautical Science. EDH course and examination Phase 4c includes SQA external papers, Narast(O) practicals, MCA oral
will be scheduled into the programme as convenient.
The above UK delivery matches our delivery, already approved by MCA for our 36 month sea time entry. The
University will award a Cert HE if students meet 40% in their modules. To meet MCA requirements students will have
to achieve 65% in Navigation assessments modules, 60% in Stability and 50% in other STCW assessments held in the
UK. This will be evidenced by a letter from the programme leader.
