HOW JESUS CHRIST IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE: AND THE ONLY MEANS TO THE

FATHER*
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no
man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from hencef
orth ye know him, and have seen him.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the embodiment of the way, the truth, the life; and the
only means to the Father only to those that know him (Colossians 2:6) and are a
lso known of him (John 14:7; Galatians 4:9; 1John 2:3; 3:23; 4:7; 1Corinthians 8
:3). They are those that became one with Christ by means of the truth that sets
us free from sins for us to become righteous in the eyes of God unto holiness, t
he end of which is eternal life (John 8:32; Romans 6:18, 22; 8:2; Colossians 3:1
4).
Contextual understanding tells us that the knowledge of God The Father, and his
Son Jesus Christ is according to, or in terms of their image and likeness of rig
hteousness and true holiness (Genesis 1:26; Hebrews 1:3; Ephesians 4:24). If we
have received the Lord Jesus Christ as such, we ought to walk so in him to be ac
cepted with him (Colossians 2:6; Acts 10:35; 2Peter 20-21).
I am the way - See Isaiah 35:8 â And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it sha
ll be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it sha
ll be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err thereinâ . By this is
meant the way of righteousness (Matthew 21:32) in which only the righteous were
to have access by waiting on the LORD (Isaiah 40:31; James 5:7), or by persiste
ntly seeking the Lord and his righteousness (1Chronicles 16:11; 22:19; Deuterono
my 4:29; Jeremiah 29:13; 5:1; 2Chronicles 30:18-20; Matthew 6:33). The Lord and
his righteousness are sought by having faith that works or is measured by love (
Romans 9:32; 12:3; Matthew 5:20; Philippians 3:9; Galatians 5:6). If we keep his
way, we shall exalted (Proverbs 14:34) to inherit the promised land (Psalms 37:
34). The Lord Jesus Christ is the way (2Peter 2:20-21) since he is the righteous
ness of God manifested without the law of Moses, or to those that were redeemed
from under the ten commandments (Romans 3:21-22; 8:2; 1Corinthians 1:30; Galatia
ns 4:5).
The truth - By this is meant the love of God, by which love we know that we are
in him and know him (1John 2:5; 4:7), and our souls are purified unto eternal li
fe if we obey and keep it (John 8:31-32; 1Peter 1:22; Jude 1:21). Jesus Christ i
s the truth because God is love (1John 4:8, 16).
The life - By this is meant the eternal life hidden in Jesus Christ (John 1:4; 1
1:25-26; Romans 5:21; 6:23), which life consists in having or abiding in Christ
(1Corinthians 1:30) and in knowing the only true God, and Jesus Christ (John 17:
3); or in having the knowledge of Godâ s righteousness (Romans 10:2-3; Proverbs 12:28
; 2Peter 2:20-21) manifested or revealed (Hebrews 2:12, 11; John 17:26) to those
that were redeemed or freed from the law of Moses or the ten commandments which
is written as the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2; 7:5; 2Corinthians 3:6; Gala
tians 4:5). This sort of righteousness is revealed to us as follows:
â ¢ one that exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees (Matthew 5:20)
â ¢ by faith that works or is measured by love (Philippians 3:9; Galatians 5:6; Luke
7:47, 50)
â ¢ the only name of Christ whereby we must be saved (Jeremiah 23:6; 33:16; Acts 4:1
2, 10)
â ¢ eternal life is possible only through this name of Jesus Christ (John 20:31; Mat
thew 19:29; 1John 5:20).
