With the Indian economy growing at a high pace and the macro economic conditions improving, this
has lead to a very congenial environment for Small and medium enterprises to grow and also
encouraged many potential entrepreneurs to start new businesses.

It is estimated that there are around 32 million Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in India
and 1 million businesses that start every year. All these companies/business require capital, with the
constrains of banks to lend in form of Debt there is a huge requirement in the form of equity capital.

Since these companies are spread across the length and breadth of the country and the potential
investors are situated in major hubs of the country. There is a no dearth of capital with potential
investors that would like to invest in these MSME’s. Also there is a large base of financial and
strategic investor that wants to enter India in this sector and due to the relative small size of the
companies it is very difficult for them to find an appropriate opportunity.

One of the most effective means to address these issues is to have a web portal which has a mass
reach that can out to potential investor in India and overseas and entrepreneurs that want to raise
this capital.

The portal would be an online platform where in entrepreneurs, investors, advisors and mentors
connect in order carry out the fund raising exercise there by publishing wither their requirement or
publishing their expertise so that they can render their services for the same. Most of the activity
would be carried out offline as the portal would just act as a connecting point between the
interested parties to possibly enter into a commercial contract at a subsequent stage.

Shapoorjee Manicher Neserwanjee Capital (SMNC) is a 150 year old company that is mainly involved
with the MSEME sector that operates in two segments debt and equity. On the debt side the main
focus is on short term debt in the form on Inter Corporate Deposit (ICD) and Loan Against Shares
(LAS). On the equity side SMNC looks at picking up stakes in early stage and growth stage
companies from capital it manages as a family office for a few well know families.

There are five projects that SMNC would like to give the students of NMIMS an opportunity on:

1. Formulate an online marketing strategy for the portal which helps the portal in being a
market leader in this segment.
2. Formulate an offline market strategy for the company in order to promote the portal and
also the company in order to reach out to as many as potential investor and entrepreneurs
as possible.
 3. Formulate a brand for the company and also the portal. Since portal would operate in a
highly competitive market a brand value is very important. Students would be required to
form a good brand using various brand building methods.
4. A feasibility study along with SWOT analysis on the various angle investor networks that
exists in India and how they help in funding of early stage companies.
5. A detail study on the short term lending scenario in India in terms of the short term lending
market for corporates. Focus will be on Inter Corporate Deposits (ICD) and Loan Against
Shares (LAS).

Please note that the above projects require the following expertise:

 Project 1: Marketing Specialization. Requires the candidate to have knowledge on E-

commerce model. Knowledge of SME sector or good financial skill set not a pre requisite
 Project 2: Marketing Specialization. Basic knowledge of fiancé in terms of type of funds and
various fund raising options would be desired.
 Project 3: Marketing Specialization. In-depth understanding of brand building and good
marketing knowledge for marketing for financial products
 Project 4: Both Marketing and Finance specialization. A basic understating of early stage
companies/start up is proffered.
 Project 5: Finance Specialization. A clear understanding of short term lending market and its
relevance in the industry.

Please note that expert inputs on the subject matter and domain knowledge will be provided by
SMNC, students will work very closely with the management on all of the above projects.
