USE SKL TO LOAD

AN/PRC-148 MULTI-BAND INTER/INTRA TEAM RADIO

(MBITR)
WITH A SINCGARS LOADSET

 Part 1: Load SINCGARS Hopset Fill locations.
1) Prepare MBITR.

a) Power on MBITR and wait for self test.

b) Press Alt and MODE button at the same time.
c) Press Up arrow and highlight KEY FILL then press the ENT button.
d) Press Down arrow and highlight MODE 23 then press the ENT button.
e) MBITR display “PTT TO LOAD”.
f) Connect FILL cable.

2) Prepare SKL.

a) Expand SINCGARS equipment and highlight a (H0) Hopset fill location.

b) Select File/Transmit/Load Selected Locations.
c) Check off all (H)opset fill locations as shown above and then tap on the OK button.
d) Select ICOM Transfer and you may Include Time (will load without time.), and then
tap on the OK button.

e) Connect the SKL to the MBITR, and then tap on the Next button.
f) Tap on the Send button.
g) SKL Status window displays “Press LOAD Button”.

3) Transfer Hopset to MBITR.

a) Press MBITR PTT button.

b) MBITR displays “ LOADING ”.
c) SKL displays “Sending empty Key locations”; “Sending hopset locations” and
then “Sending empty lockout locations”.
d) On SKL, when done displays “Reload Equipment”.
e) On MBITR, displays “ LOADING ” wait for processing of data, approx. 20 seconds.
f) Loading of hopsets is complete.

Part 2: Load SINCGARS COMSEC Fill locations.

1) Prepare MBITR.

a) Power on MBITR and wait for self test.

b) Press Alt and MODE button at the same time.
c) Press Up arrow and highlight KEY FILL then press the ENT button.
d) Press Down arrow and highlight COMSEC then press the ENT button.
e) MBITR display “KEY TEK 1”.
f) Connect FILL cable.

2) Prepare SKL.

a) Expand SINCGARS equipment and make note of the COMSEC keys that is assigned
to fill locations C1 thru C6.
b) Tap on the Keys tab and highlight the key that is assigned to location C1.
c) Select File/Transmit/Load.

d) Change Protocol and Activate mode to DS-102 and tap on the OK button.
e) Connect SKL to the MBITR.
f) Review Key attributes and tap on the OK button.

 g) SKL displays “ Press INITIATE Button”.

3) Transfer COMSEC to MBITR.

a) Press MBITR PTT button.

b) After key transfers the MBITR displays “KEY TEK 2”.
c) SKL displays “Check Parity, Resend Key”, tap on the “NO” button.
d) Repeat steps 2b thru 3c for fill locations C2 thru C5.
e) If C6 is a KEK then on the MBITR change key to KEK, then repeat steps 2b thru 3c.
f) Loading of COMSEC is complete.
