Part A
1. Compare and contrast In-house Implementation along with End Users

with some real life examples?

Ans: - In-house Implementation
1. To setup & implement an ERP package is not an easy task. We can also not
setup a trial & error method of implementation because a large amount of
investments are involved.
2. The consequences of a failed ERP implementation will put the organization
out of business & also the ERP implementation cannot go on for a long period
of time.
To successfully carry out the implementation within a reasonable time n-frame
If the company plans to do ERP implementation in-house along with end user
• Hire experts & have them on the company roles or positions.
• This is expensive proposition as once the implementation is over; there is no
need to keep the experts in the business.
• Wastage of resources & spending a lot of money on training
• It is better to give to those who are specialized into it & focus on company’s
effort that how to manage after ERP implementation.
• Better to train employees during implementation it will solve money,
effectiveness
• They are the people who use the ERP system once it has been developed.
• End users are the people who will be doing the functions which are automated
by the ERP system.
• The end user should be given the training as to how use the various functions
that are automated in the s/w.
• They fear among the employees of unemployment is taken out with the training
sections.
• The end users are provided with the skills set & more opportunities to work in a
challenging environment using the modern technologies.

2. Being a manager of an upcoming organization what different ERP

implementation methodologies would you adopt for SME’s in India?
Ans: - ERP implementation methodologies:-
Survey Methodology
Invitations to participate in the survey requested responses from implementers of
ERP packages who have basically worked for small and medium scale enterprises
based in India and have been associated with the implementation process for their
respective organization. The researchers therefore created items to measure the
constructs, and used five-point multi-item, Liker-type scales for each item where
“1” meant “Strongly Disagree” and “5” meant “Strongly Agree.” Questionnaire
survey method was selected following the previous study to evaluate the
importance of the CSFs that have been found through literature review. A postal
survey questionnaire was used as the research instrument. The questionnaire is
focused on the importance of critical success factors that clarified from literature
review. It identifies the respondents’ perception of the importance of CSFs in the
ERP implementation process. For each of these factors, a number of elements or
statements were formulated through the definition and description of each one in
the literature.

Data collection procedures

The target respondent in each firm was the chief information officer (CIO), the
director of MIS, IT Manager or any person responsible for ERP System since they
are directly involved in ERP system. Overall, 160 responses were obtained for
analysis. A wide variety of industries were represented in the responses

Pilot Study
Seven experienced client project managers pilot tested the survey. The researcher
requested that the pilot subjects identify and suggest improvements for any
omission, error, or inconsistency in the survey. All seven of the pilot participants
completed the survey in the presence of the investigator. The pilot test resulted in
several small revisions to the primary instrument that included rewording of a few
items, the addition of a few demographic questions, and alterations to the
instructions to make them easier to understand. No scaled item was dropped or
added as a result of the pilot study.

4. Data Analysis and Discussion

Data were collected from the users of the leading ERP vendors: SAP, Oracle, and
Microsoft and some local vendors who have developed customized ERP packages.
The respondents came from manufacturing (44%), education and training (7%),
high technology (10%), telecommunications (5%), retail (8%) and a variety of
other industries. They were also fairly well educated with 87% having a four-year
or higher college degree. They had about 5+ years of experience in their current
area with their current employer. The sample size that was obtained by the
researcher was 160, so Kolmogorov-Smirnov’s test was conducted to test for data
normality.

3. Define steps you would follow to achieve the manufacturing target provided
to you using ERP?
Ans:-ERP was targeted for manufacturing industry mainly for planning and
managing core business like production and financial market. As the growth and
merits of ERP is designed for basic process of a company from manufacturing to
small shops with a target of integrating information across the company.
The steps we should follow to achieve the manufacturing target are-
• The biggest target market for the ERP application is the Manufacturing
Industry. The Enterprise Resource Planning application is normally meant for
manufacturing companies.
• The best manufacturing software will focus on the core functional area of the
manufacturing industry and i.e. production.
• It is always a bundled or an integrated application which can be the best it for
manufacturing companies.

Part B

4. Predict the future of ERP in India in coming decade?

Ans: - Enterprises today are deluged with terabytes of data: their own internal data;
customer and partner data; as well as new “unstructured” data flows—from
Internet-based social networks and mobile devices. But guess what? We isn’t seen
nothing’ yet. During the next five years, Gartner predicts that the amount of
enterprise data will grow by a jaw-dropping 650 percent. And the vast majority of
that data will be unstructured; meaning not included or tied to any particular
database, Gartner points out. This head-scratching growth, noted David
Cappuccino, Gartner’s chief of research for the infrastructure teams, in a CIO.com
article, “is going to cost us dearly if we don’t pay attention.”

Further research on this research can be divided into two categories:

 A follows-up research in a few years.
The purpose of a follow-up research in a few years would be to check the results of
this research and see if the scenarios correspond with reality. Consequently, an
additional possibility would be to steer the outcome of this research based on the
knowledge available at that time. If this is the goal of a follow-up research it
should be conducted in the period between 2010 and 2012.

 Additional research using this research as a basis but focused on one specific
organization.
Further research is also possible to increase the depth of the outcome. If an
organization wants to know what this all means for his specific situation, a new
scenario planning research is required with the focus on that specific Organization.
This will give the organization specific strategic action points which can be used to
prepare the organization for the future.
Additional research more focused on a specific part of the subject.
Another possibility for further research is the deepening of the subject. For
instance, repeating the research planning for ERP user interfaces or the utilization
of the ERP systems. This would provide more concrete insight in that specific part
of the ERP landscape

5. Web enabling and snapshots are the upcoming terms in ERP. Explain them
with the help of an example?

Ans: - Microsoft Provides a Snapshot of Dynamics SL 2011 ERP Features

The slow drip feed of information about the release of Microsoft Dynamics SL
2011 ERP has started with Microsoft (news, site) announcing that it will be
released in English in the US and Canada in the second quarter of next year.

Needless to say at this early stage there are scant few details of what to expect with
this, although Microsoft has said that it will be particularly valuable for companies
involved in construction, professional services, government contracting,
architecture and engineering fields.

Example:- SL 2011 ERP Interface:

With this release, one of four Microsoft ERP applications, Microsoft says it has
concentrated on enhancing user productivity through a new user interface similar
to the one in Office, as well as role-specific dashboards for user views across the
entire enterprise.

Web enabled erp services have helped to remove many drawbacks of the earlier
applications. This has gained momentum as it has made ERP function more
meaningful and dynamic with the latest inclusions.
